Have to admit my initial thought was that the Saints got fleeced, but a Saints poster made a similar case to you - average ruckmen who is also average when resting forward.
I think to get Savage and a first round pick was the right way to go for the Saints given where their list is at. They can always bring another ruckman in down the track if/when their list has developed to contender stage.

I think it's definitely a case of wait and see what they've got at the end of the trade period. Currently they've got two players taller than 195cm with AFL experience on their list. And Rhys Stanley is one of those and I thought they were grooming him into a defender. It's pretty safe to assume that they're not sitting on their hands for the rest of the trade period. Although they did try everything to get a key defender last trade period and ended up with nothing.

All in all, I think Savage + pick 17 seems fairly reasonable for McEvoy, whom I also think is a bit overrated (he was significantly better at age 22 than at age 24, which is pretty alarming). It's also reasonable compensation for Franklin, which is ultimately, pretty much what it is from Hawthorn's perspective. But whether it was actually a smart deal for St Kilda depends on what else they can pick up over the trade period. Because right now, they look either very old, completely unproven, or woefully undersized in their key positions at both ends and the ruck.

If we give up our first round pick for ******* Heath Shaw...
I don't want us to do this, but think we may have to, we seem keen on getting Shaw.
On radio yesterday was mentioned that a number of deals are being held up until we get the Shaw deal done, doesn't seem that way, with a bit happening yesterday arvo and today so far

Every individual and the injuries sustained are unique. I'm guessing it doesn't help that Bailey is a very big guy, who places a lot of stress onto his knees.
I'm resigned to neither Menzel nor McIntosh playing a senior game for us from now on. If either occurs - especially Menzel - it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Rather than going hard and wasting picks/players chasing Adams, maybe we should pick up Tom Ledger for free instead? I really like and rate him and think that he could play as a high possession inside mid. The only knock on him is his disposal which can be ordinary (but so was Enright's....) and he probably needs to build his endurance base over the preseason.

What makes you so confident that he will be 'an A at least'?
Admittedly, it's a small sample, but from what I have seen he has all the ingredients to be an A-grader: size, ability to win hitouts, ability to mark the ball and presence when the ball hits the ground.

You never can know for sure with ruckmen at his age, but I'm as confident as one can be about a 20 year old.

I'd say we are very keen on getting Shaw.... he has been offered a 4 year deal by us so we are clearly keen, despite the opinions of many of our supporters

I heard that Geelong was denying that Shaw had been offered anything on the radio this morning. Happy to be corrected if that story has changed.

I can understand the club wanting to upgrade Walker. But I have no clue as to why they want to elevate Burbury...
Completely agree here
And FWIW I wouldn't upgrade Blitz.. we don't have to yet so no need.. Menz will be on the long term injury list for a while yet so Blitz can be elevated if need
