Mark Robinson yesterday suggested that Scott Selwood wanted to return to Victoria.

Our 1st pick + Hamling for Selwood + WCE's 2nd/3rd pick?
If WCE want a West Australian player back as part of the deal they'd be looking at Duncan or Kersten, not Hamling - and while I think Selwood would be a valuable addition I'd balk at trading away either of those players.

I'd be offloading Stringer, West, Schroder types to free up list spots (possibly keeping Chappy).

Looking to draft the following if available

- Tall speedy defender like Will Schofield
- Gorilla defender like Lonners
- medium tall utility
- ruck/forward (if quality is available)

rookie list
2 rucks, 1 as a contingency (Orren Stephenson type) and the other a long-term prospect

I'd be training Blicavs to primarily become a defender. As an emergency no2 ruck I think he is good enough but I don't want him as our primary no2 ruck.

Jes , the Melb board had he linked to them. Over confident? Who knows. How much do we put into the Roo's factor

Have heard West ? Is in his last year contract wise & Collingwood have offered him a significant pay increase. Not sure what his worth would be.

If uncontracted we will get nothing of value for him.

But I thought he signed on for 2 years last year so has a year left? If I'm right I reckon we could get Collingwoods 2nd round pick for West and our 3rd round pick.

Of course if Longer is on the market he is going to be the #1 ruck clubs will be aiming to trade for. West might be next in line if a deal can't get done.

They'll be losing Hudson and Jolly and Lynch doesn't look like the answer as their second ruck, so West makes sense. I think it's fraught with danger as our true ruckmen have been very brittle, but if West is left out this weekend, it's fair to say that he's gone. There's a fair chance that he is anyway, if the right deal can be found (with the proposed deal above, I'd probably start the negotiations at a later pick than our third rounder, though it might end up being something very similar to what you proposed).

I'm warming to the idea of trading Kelly (while he still has some value) to go after a KPD after seeing Lonergan lately. Bring Guthrie/Hyphen/Shredder in the middle, Eardley/Bews/Thurlow back pocket.

Kelly traded.....Please we all know he's not in great form, but get serious.

Deadly. He's 30 in 3 months, we've seen his best. He's preventing young guys getting the time in the middle they need, if Scott was serious when talking about 2015 we need to get games into Hyphen, Schroeder & Eardley.

Who's going to play at full back in 2015? I don't see Mitch Brown having the bulk, they seem to persisting with Walker forward for some crazy reason, he won't make it there. We have to plug this hole in the next 18 months, preferably this trade period because Lonergan looks past it.

So who still has some trade currency that we can replace with youth? Kelly and Varcoe For mine. I don't mean this to be disrespectful to Kel, he has been amazing to the club but we are rebuilding and need to make some tough calls.

Can see what your saying but I just can't see a triple premiership being traded.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet.....but, would we look at getting someone like Billy Longer (Bris) into the club?

He wants to come home to Vic. Will become a decent ruck man in my opinion.

Schroder, Brown, Walker, Burbury, Cowan, Josh Hunt, Joel Corey, Trent West all likely to be gone end of the year.
I don't think Schroeder, Brown or Burbury will be going anywhere. I think Brown might have a breakthrough next year, I hope so, still believe he has the goods, just needs opportunity/consistency.

I think he's worth looking at - Simpson/Longer could be a good combo. Frees Vardy up for CHF and Blitz to use his running ability on the wing or somewhere. I think our priority needs to be a KPD to replace Lonergan though. We can have a really strong spine for the next era with Taylor, Hawkins (if fit), Vardy/Kersten and a good full back. A Rory Thompson type.

If I was a betting man I would take you on.

Walker it is believed has been told he will be upgraded next season from the Rookie list and many here on this Board reckon Burbury will also be elevated.

Schroder and Brown are interesting ones as their names come up from time to time re delisting or trading. I just don't think that will happen. We need a strong inside mid that can kick goals (Schroder) and a 6'5", even not a strong body type, don't come around all that often. He can take a grab and is a nice kick.

I agree that Corey, Cowan, JHunt and West are more likely than not to be off the senior list.

That makes room for Walker and Burbury off the rookie list and gives us the other 2 compulsory ND picks we must take.

Gives McCarthy, Schroder, Burbury, Walker and Brown another season to show us what they can do.

Don't know why ppl are so keen to trade brown. He's being groomed to replace Lonergan, who realistically won't keep going around forever.

Only players I'd say are certain to leave at the end of the year, are J.Corey, J.Hunt, and T.West.

Given we will take 2 National Draft picks and will want to elevate Blicavs, Burbury, and Walker. That means we need to find space on our list by de-listing 2 others. For mine that will be stringer, and one of Chapman, J.Pod, Enright, (I hope they all stay) or delisting another kid who we've decided won't make it (Seriously doubt this will be brown or walker)

Regarding Stringer - he was signed on a 2 year contract when elevated last year. So unless they are going to tray him, I doubt they would delist him with 1 year still to run on his contract.

I said it on another thread, the main question the MC needs to ask themselves at the end of this year is "are we a realistic chance for the premiership in 2014 or will we be better placed for 2015?". If the club feels it is a realist chance at the flag next year, then they may look at keeping 1 or 2 of Chappy, Corey & Hunt on the list if it is deemed they could play a role in the run for a premiership, but if they are looking at 2015 you need to ask if those 3 are likely to be part of that team or best 22 that year and if there are doubts then they may need to make the tough call on some careers. It becomes a question of "do we give Chappy & Hunt another 20 odd games in 2014, or will the club be better positioned if those games are spread between the likes of Thurlow, Smedts, Shroder, GHS, Bews (amongst other youngsters) who are more likely to be part of our next flag tilt?".

Tough calls will need to be made over the next 1, 2 & 3 years, and those calls need to be made as to benefit the club not just for the next immediate season but for future seasons as well.

Not sure why the club would send Cowan O/S for treatment on his achillies if they were thinking of delisting him.

Out: J Hunt, Chapman, Corey McCarthy to Rookie List (only due to injury issues)
In: Walker, Burbury, 1st round pick & 2nd round pick. Extra picks only if players traded.
Blicavs to remain a rookie but promoted on Long term Injury list for Menzel who isn't due back til at least June/July which after that period Blicavs can become nominated rookie.

Brown will replace lonners in the short-term but in the long-term he will replace Mackie/Rivers. He is the only developing KPD we have so people have to stop unfairly expecting him to be like lonergan.

I don't think Cowan will be delisted, he has a fair bit of talent and just needs a good run.

Schroder will probably get another year, I don't think he will make it but he deserves another preseason.

The problem is a lot of the older guys are cooked and need to play minor roles but there are too many of them to all play HBF and defensive forward.

Bartel, Kelly and Chappy (if he gets another year) should be transitioned out of the team next year.

Guys like GHS, Murdoch and Smedts have to be playing most weeks.

That's the conundrum right there. Unfortunate but true. As well as them, I'd say Simpson, Vardy, and Brown at least have to get more senior football.

One of Chapman (retire) or Stringer (trade). Blicavs, Walker and Burbury should be upgraded off the rookie list as well. We may only have 2 picks in this year's draft again.

Upgrade Walker and then trade off Hamling.
Do any of you people ever watch the VFL? Seriously!

Hamling will make it at AFL level when he thickens up a bit. Has all the skills but not quite the body. But I have doubts that Walker can cut it at AFL level. He has a good athhletic ability, but a poor kick and just does not take opportunities.
