[4] Vards is a year-to-year proposition due to injury. Anyone who banks on him as a sure thing to replace Pods is wide of the mark.
He is like Menzel, a delicious gravy but not the main course. When he is there the meal is great but you've got to learn to cook, plate and serve without it. If you truly are going to be a great chef.

To re-phrase my comments as simply as I can in reply to your patronising post.

[1] We have many talented mids coming through. Repeat, that is not our primary need in the next year or two in my view.
[2] If we had a draft 10 pick available I listed where I thought it could be better utilised.
[3] Troy is a very good player but I don't rate him as highly as you. You're are entitled to your view. I don't agree with it.
[4] Vards is a year-to-year proposition due to injury. Anyone who banks on him as a sure thing to replace Pods is wide of the mark.
(1) who do we have coming through that even remotely compares with Scooter Selwood as a mid.
(2) regardless of how we utilise a hypothetical top ten pick it does not mean Scooter isn't worth one (which you claimed)
(3) What does this have to do with Troy Selwood? Are you claiming Scott equals Troy?
(4) I didn't say Vardy was a sure thing but he is waiting in the wings to replace Pods for sure.

Again instead of strawman arguments can you get back to the point and rationalise your statement that I am dreaming to think Scott Selwood is worth a top ten pick and that I'm waaaaaaay over to suggest an offer of Varcoe+16+33.

EDIT- Your original post was patronising, I'm just looking for some logic from you amongst your strawman points and failed rationale.

Its almost irrelevant to debate if we would trade for X for Pick! , if we had 1. I cant see us getting #1 pick anytime soon and if we did get P1 , I doubt we would trade it. We'd take the very best kid we could and have in our system asap.

would I trade Varcoe & 16 & 32 for SS. No. Id like him at the Cats but not for that price

My point. That's why, if we had an early pick, we would use it to shore up either that position, the key back position or think about another ruckman before we'd be seeking another mid.

On our list we presently have:

Sel, Bundy, Mots, Smedts, Varcoe, Kelly, Corey,SJ, Duncan,Caddy,Stokes,Guthrie, Schroder, GHS, Taylor Hunt, Stringer. All of whom have been used as mids this year getting us to second spot on the ladder. The only one not likely to be around in 2014 is Smithy and I wouldn't say that is a fait accompli either.

In the wings we have McCarthy, Menzel, Cowan, Sheringham, Burbs, Murdoch, Bews, Eardley, even Blitz all of whom are capable of playing as mids.

If we had a top ten pick, London to a brick we would use it to secure a power forward (with Pods in the evening of his career and Hawk having a bit of a cloud over his), a key position back to replace Lonners or another ruckman as insurance in case HMac doesn't come up.

Suspect Scooter is a lot like Joel, I suspect. Get to a club -> become part of that club -> become undyingly loyal to that club. No beef re: that process with Joel, can't complain with Scott. Nice to see top tier players (Scooter approaching that level) who invest enough to prefer teamsmanship to coin. Will not move unless forced, IMO, or WCE circumstances become extreme.

Would any of us love to have Scott Selwood @ Geelong?
- Of course we would.
Would we sell the farm to get him?
- Of course not.
Are we therefore likely to acquire him?
- No.
Has this (albeit interesting) asside run its course?
- I believe it has.

Personally I can't see us trading for more picks either. We might trade to upgrade some picks, but at the end of the day due to our need to upgrade a number of our rookies, we'll only be taking 2 players at the ND anyways.

Also bringing in more outsiders (unless there is someone we simply can't say no to) only makes our current list squeeze worse.

I'd be happy to trade our picks away for some young GWS action. They would have already had a year or two in the system.

Moving away from the unrealistic prospect of Scott Selwood and towards the draft I see Bundys brother is playing for the Falcons and will be in this year's draft.

Anyone got some more in depth info on how good he is, type of player etc.

Should we suggest to him to stack a few kg's on prior to the draft camp (if he was invited) just to put other teams off him?

Scooter would be great. Kinda like Boyd. He'd be great too. Not gonna happen as the $$ will just be too onerous.

The only hope is that Scooter thinks WC is a sinking ship - coach, people leaving - but even then WC will want a trade value in their favour. And it would just be too much I feel.

I dont particularly rate S.Selwood much higher than Adam. A good run-with player. Obviously a hard-worker and probably would find a place at Geelong - but asking price always going to be too dear.

Stringer, Smedts, Sherringham?

I'd say he meant Schroeder instead of Sheringham, being realistic though not one of them players projects to be the inside guns that JC or JK were/are.

We really need some grunt in our midfield, our mid is looking like a bunch of outside runners at the moment obviously Selwood aside.

I really like Smedts but he just tries to be too fancy imo, at times he looks like he's going to be a star and then other times he looks like a downhill skiier.
