Sheringham: Can someone explain this one to me? He's 178cm and 75kg aka tiny. And he's 26 next year. Why is he on our list?

yeah his a list clogger, u would think by the time ur 26 u would have made it or not,

waits for someone to mention pods.

I just assumed he was one of those handy VFL types that are great for player development but if that was the case wouldn't he be off the main list?

Cheap depth. Probably got more to offer us than pick #50-something in the rookie draft. Managed about five games in his first year on the rookie list and didn't look woefully out of place, then had his 2013 wrecked by injuries. And he was one of the few who had a genuine crack in the VFL grand final. If another team doesn't pick up Eardley, I don't really understand the decision to get rid of him, but keeping Sheringham is fair enough, in my opinion. They could have kept both.

would have thought specialist coaches are there for player development :0

You know what I mean guys that can show the younger guys the ropes how to train how to play etc. ;)

He was playing pretty much in front of us in the first quarter of the QF too and he never looked like he was going to be able to lead into space and when the ball did come in he blew a few chances. He seemed overwhelmed.

However, I don't like judging by one or two games and as he only played four (?) this year, I'll just hope for the best from him next year.

It's hard to make any call on Kersten until we see if he can do it with the big boys in the big time to make the comparison. He wasn't that great in the VFL GF was he?

Kersten, the Podsiadly ready made replacement, so they've said, well, time will tell.
It's easy to forget Pods played defensive as well as forward and still managed 33goals 20 behinds this year.
Loosing his physical presence is something that's less tactile but no doubt a factor for the coming season given his intensive attack on the opposition, I just hope Kersten can step up now, because it's now time!

Kersten isn't the pods replacement. Vardy is.
In fact I'm not what Kersten is yet. But he going to be good.

Kersten doesn't look to leap like Pods.
But I would definitely say he has pods covered at ground level.

Pods sometimes looked over awed with decision making and agility up the wing when the ball was at ground level. I think that scenario is one of Kerstens assets.

Or will ever be VC. :D Sorry! Couldn't resist.

Few interesting delistings around the place. I wonder if we'd be interested in any of the following, even if it is just for a spot on the rookie list:

Aaron Cornelius - my cousins are Brisbane fans, and were staggered he didn't get more games. Could be a good 3rd tall, a la Gunston at Hawthorn.
Aaron Joseph - could never have enough taggers. I remember him doing a good job on Gaz in the NAB Cup a few years back too. Still only 24 too.
Maverick Weller
Sam Darley
Andrew Boseley - tall defender who had a battle with injury at the Hawks. Is only 21 and a former Falcon to boot.
Thomas Couch - tore it up regularly at Casey in the VFL. Didn't get much of a chance in the AFL though.
James Magner

idk not many footballers tear it up after being delisted.....

Always thought below the knees and quick hands made Pods multi dimensional compared to a Vardy or Hawkins, Kersten has made a few tackles stick in the two's, but it's a bit quicker playing with the big boys.
In retrospect I think Pods had pretty good tackle numbers this year, on the other hand, Kersten just needs to show he can get the ball to begin with.

Those delistings above, Arron Cornelius, thought he had big potential a couple of years ago.

I think it's worth having a look at a few of them. Even Gysberts. You've got to remember they were "developed" by the likes of Melbourne FC.

Remember Gysberts cutting it up against us a few years back. However, it's the second time he's been flicked. Perhaps worth a look if we could encourage him to run around in the twos to see if we can make something of him.

He did, and he's a nice size. It's possible they might consider a delisted there's some reasonable names there.

And I hate to fall into this camp but he's a decent size: 190cm 81kg.

Go back to the hawks game in 2012. (I think) the one where hawk won it after the siren.
Pods was caught cold in the back half and it wasn't called.

It's an example of how poor he was in heavy traffic.

Probably his draft weight, wouldn't be that now, but was playing brilliant footy to begin with.

Checked the North player list, you're right, they say 190/81 and 190/84, I'd say the 84 is the latest, needs a bit of Body Bulk for breakfast on the Uncle Toby's.
Needs to find a couple of kilos, could make all the difference but who knows.

Did the job on Ablett on more than one occasion as well as a few other good players, was one of the best taggers going around a couple of years back,I wonder where his heads at can play.

none of the delisted players mentioned will be at geelong next year, scott selwood nor michael hurley will be at geelong next year

I would have thought Gysberts and Magner. Magner seems to just fall out of favour at the D's after having a fairly promising introduction. Gysberts seems to have a desire cloud that could be fixed by environment. Magner would not be the first player to do better or at least as well after a change of scenery.

With Bosley, I thought pre his draft there were some pretty serious wraps on him but seems to be felled by injury. If he is still hurt then no thanks. If he is better and just missed out because of opportunity then perhaps….

Go Catters
