Time will tell. Reminds me of a young Dangerfield trying to take on AFL players and getting caught out all the time.
I hope to hell he makes it because he brings a dynamic that we need in terms of flair, but, the difference between his best and worst is astounding.

At his best he looks like a star in the making but at his worst he looks like he doesn't belong in the AFL.

Hyphen in my opinon is going to be very good, I hope he can break into the team.

I was talking of Smedts, Stringer and Schroeder though.
I was referring to your last point - you said we need grunt in the midfield as our mid is looking like a bunch of outside runners - Horlin-Smith is the grunt we need and should play 20 odd games next year.

I wouldn't necessarily call Stringer an outside mid/runner either - he seems to do the grunt work at VFL level, is in there with the hardball gets and I wouldn't be surprised if that is the direction they push him in if he stays. He signed a 2yr contract when promoted last year, so we might see Stringer get a few more games next year.

Fair point.

I believe Hyphen is the goods but we need more than him and Selwood to get the job done.

Bundy of course can play inside but we've used him more on the outside which is fair enough considering his build and the monster mids in the modern era.

I'm worried that with Schroeder having a great year for our VFL team that we will trade him!

Don't we have the habit of trading our VFL b&f winner? - so just gotta hope it ain't Schroeder.
Not sure we do that every year, but just seems that we don't seem to retain them for any period of time afterwards.

I'm pretty sure we do which would suck if we got rid of Schroeder.

Just reading an article in the Addy on Shane Kersten - I love the sound of this:

Geelong has earmarked him as a long-term forward option and he recently signed a one-year contract extension.
"I want to have a strong pre-season and hopefully play some senior footy early next year," said Kersten, who leads Geelong's VFL goalkicking with 36 goals from only 11 games.
"I'm keen to stay here and I love Geelong. I'm Victorian-born. We moved to WA when I was about five, so I've got a lot of family here.
"I'm very keen to stay here and have a good career."

also interesting to read that we are going to have to be careful with out management of him - his right leg is 2cm shorter than his left leg which is the reason for the problems he has had with his left hamstring & hip this year. From the article it seems that the club is looking at managing this issue rather than surgery.

Bit of a worry in the long term IMO.
Having his balance off set could lead to a lot of injury problems over the journey. Hope I'm wrong anyway he's on track to being a pretty handy AFL player.

Not at all, AFL players with perfect bodies would be in the minority. LLD (what Kersten has) occurs in 40-70% of the population. And to same the degree he has (20mm+) about 1 in 1000.

And this is something the club has identified early in his career at Geelong and something they can work together to manage.

I would say though, can we draft a player without hip/leg problems please: Vardy, Smedts, Kersten, am i forgetting anyone?

Regarding his issue, I actually have a similar thing. Just make sure they measure both legs when being fitted for pants. TRUST ME!
Think the management approach is best personally. Working with a wedge or some orthotics sounds right. No rush with him and let him get it right slowly. Will make #39 popular again....

My mail was that he was happy here and the WA thing was not an issue currently. I was not aware of the new contract being finalised but thought it was in the works. VERY VERY good news.

The cats seem to be doing all these contract negotiations very well. Adding a year to two here and there staggering the retirements. Managing the contracts alone is almost a full time job. In the last decade we've only lost one player (Mumford) in search of more money. I don't think you can really count Ablett as no one would have turned down 10 million dollars. That was exceptional.

I think if we are brutally honest with our list and want to give the kids a real chance of getting games then we might have to make some unpopular calls. These are the ages of our veterans next season.
Bartel 31 - stay
Mackie 30 - stay
Hunt 32 - retire
Kelly 31 - stay but needs to have a stokes esque revival to hold a spot/GHS
Corey 32 - retire
Lonergan 30 - stay but we need to find a replacement through next year
H.Mac 30 - stay but needs to get fit
S.J 31 - stay
Rivers 30 - stay
Stokes 30 - stay but needs to keep form up or will be overtaken
J.Pod 33 - stay/retire average goals a game is down from 2.25 to 1.5 this year. Will probably be hindering Vardy as KPF next year
Chappy 33 - retire my favourite player but if we are totally honest he can still find the footy but is a lot more rushed now with disposal and bad hamstrings don't often get better with age.
Enright 33 - stay still has great form.

I would then look at the guys I don't think will take us forward
West - Trade
Varcoe - trade needs to start delivering more consistently on potential
Stringer - trade/delist
McCarthey - delist re rookie if possible
Sherringham - delist
Bathie - delist probably a bit old now

Eardley -stay
Blicavs - stay on rookie for Menzel if possible

Now consider who we have that need to start getting games
Brown
GHS
Smedts
Murdoch
Schroder
Thunt
Bews
Thurlow
Kersten
Hamling
Burbury

Some of these guys probably won't make it but we need to start turning over our list and finding out while still remaing competitive. I would like to see Walker and Blicavs spend all summer learning off Harry and Lonners . We recruit a young monster project ruck and rookie an older 22-25yo 200cm+ ruck.

I hope we can get a premiership this year so some of our vets go out on a high!

I'd say he meant Schroeder instead of Sheringham, being realistic though not one of them players projects to be the inside guns that JC or JK were/are.

We really need some grunt in our midfield, our mid is looking like a bunch of outside runners at the moment obviously Selwood aside.

Sorry, totally disagree with this. GHS, Caddy, Schroeder and Stringer are all very strong inside, with plenty of grunt. You've got to remember they're all still kids with 8-10 fewer preseasons than Kelly or Smithy. In 3-4 years they could be the perfect example of a "big-bodied midfield".

Smedts is much more of an outside player.

Do we wanna have a crack at Del Santo?
I think he has plenty to offer but im not sure he would be above Bartel, Kelly, Smithy, Chappy etc.

And what would it do to Hyphen who has bided his time only to get ranked out by a 30 year vet....

Just dont think it would gain us much although Nicky Dal was a gun...

Hey guys, what would West be worth? If we did trade Bellchambers (I hope not) I'd like to have a look at him. What's his forward game like? And Varcoe? Could use someone with his class in our forward 50

You'll get vastly different views about West's worth on this board. He's under contract for 2014 so the preference is likely to be to keep him but he's clearly behind four other rucks now so they might be minded to take what they can get for him while they can (e.g. a pick in the 40s).

I highly doubt Varcoe would be up for trade. Very hard to judge his value. He's the type of player that's worth far more to us than another club would be willing to give up.

I think West will be gone at the end of the season. Varcoe I do not think they would trade.

I do not see this happening but I would trade West, Varcoe and a good draft pick (for a higher one) to get Carlisle.

In saying that I would like to see Blicavs have a go at in a KPB post just in case we don't get a Lonners replacement soon.
