And this is something the club has identified early in his career at Geelong and something they can work together to manage.

I would say though, can we draft a player without hip/leg problems please: Vardy, Smedts, Kersten, am i forgetting anyone?
Yep no worries , just to drop down the ladder a bit. We pick the best talent we can with picks we have and a lot of the times there is a reason they have dropped

Not at all, AFL players with perfect bodies would be in the minority. LLD (what Kersten has) occurs in 40-70% of the population. And to same the degree he has (20mm+) about 1 in 1000.
I had my left leg just under 2 inches longer than the right but had surgery on the growth plates of the left leg as a young teenager to arrest the growth. The difference is now about 8mm and my podiatrist suggests I should wear extensions inside the shoe. I am a naughty boy and don't bother. Extensions inside a footy boot may cause issues for Kersten. You would think that the club would have the boots and runners specially fixed for him.

Varcoe for Pears is a crazzy Vossy type trade. No way
As the season nears it's end you will see a lot of "Crazy Vossy" type trade scenarios suggested. People seem to be infected by it like it was some rabid flesh eating zombie virus.

Vardy did not have any hip problems (to my knowledge) until that fateful day against the Crows when he copped a blow to the hip that caused the injury.

Not a fan of Pears.

West was really good today but it seems it will not save him. Perhaps his trade might provide a reasonable draft pick - 20 or so ?

We have plenty of talent in the VFL - some just not ready to play AFL yet.

Yeah West for Pears crazy what was I thinking. We have heaps of Key Defenders ready to go.

I can understand why people are adversed to trading in players as we have a list squeeze atm. It was purely answering the Ess guys question regarding West or Varcoe.

Now I know why there is only like 5 people that are included in this tread. Everyone else is to scared of getting shot down for a mear suggestion of a trade.

I have a genuine question: What's an actual hole on your list?
We will be in desperate need of a gorilla fullback and full forward in about 2 years when Pods and Lonergan go. Also an inside mid or two will be required. And ruck.

So basically a BIG solid spine and one more inside mid, the latter depends on how Caddy develops.

I thought Kersten would be the answer the Pods question. M. Brown the same for Lonergan

Kersten or Vards can replace Pods I agree.

Brown looks more a 3rd tall type but then not everyone needs to be a Gorilla like Lonners to hold down key back (see Richards). Plus we have Hamling further down the track who also looks a talent and Blicavs and Walker who could be developed into new roles. Plenty of options.

I'd say all bases are covered but some posters tend to lack faith in our ability to develop players and forget we used to have a pretty ordinary FF called Lonergan

Can never have to many quality mids though. Even though we have plenty developing there are a lot on the way out too. Not for lack of quality in the ruck department but #1 ruck that can stay together for a season wouldn't hurt either. But I think we'll back our own to pull it together for at least one more season.

Kersten probably, I don't think Brown will be here past this year. As others on this board know I don't think he's up to it - to put it mildly. As Jmac2225 said our list is pretty solid so time will tell.

Recall an interview with Cookie before last week's game saying that we're not only tight for spots (take 2 or 3 max picks in the draft) but up to our eyeballs in the salary cap.
Didn't rule out trading but said that we're not in a position to go after a big fish.

For mine Hunt & Corey will be asked to hang up the boots. Chappy probably played himself into a one year deal last night. Brown and West might shop around for opportunities and Walker might get some interest from those that miss out on Crameri or Gumby. Otherwise he gets upgraded.

Blitz might be asked to stay on the rookie list depending on trades and spots available.

In a good spot though. Seniors in the preliminary final, reserves going for back to back and the likes of Menzel, McIntosh & Simpson hopefully stepping up net year.

Rosso , I was just about to ask the Chappy question. Does 4 goals = another year? The trouble is Corey more than held his own as well. Lets face it they both could go on , if they are mentally still "on". Some guys are just animals while others do reach a point of "enough". Reading Scarlett's book recently , he and Boris are so close , it wouldn't surprise me if he pulled the pin...even when he has more to give.

Tough job and Cooky will earn his money the next couple of months. The balancing act , team harmony , list demographics , future aspirations. And I have been critical of great teams like the Aus cricket team not being strong enough to move the old guys. The thing I always try to keep in mind , all players when drafted replace somebody. Someones turn comes at the prices of someone else's. So all players must know that sooner or later their time must come for the benefit of the team/club etc. but this is balanced by the pride the competitive spirit , the willingness to compete the individual feels.

Chappy atm still offer's real in game performance. He can still do it. Maybe not for 25 games but for 10 important games. My thought process is...... We must not disrupt club harmony ,we must consider team age and experience for the future, we must if possible reward guys who have taken haircuts to keep the group together and the odds are against us replacing a performing older player with a kid that will be just as good. More likely , like most players drafted , he will be a player of minimal contribution. In my minds eye , Id hate to chop Chappy to keep a "Prismall" . Will guys like Burbs or GHS or Schroder or Stringer become 100/200 game players or will they be journey men like BP.... Tough job Mr Cook.

Reckon you'd play Kersto as a deep lead-up forward or a high flanker. Really rate him but don't see him ideally as a key position forward.

I think it was Ling who gave a very good answer in last nights coverage (Swans vs Blues) when the commentators were talking about if that would be Scotlands last match. Ling responded with 'it's better to go out with half a season or 10 great games still in you than to play on a year to long' (or along those lines).
I wonder if that suggestion will be put to a few of our senior players at the end of this year - that while they may be able to contribute to the team next year and get 10 great games out of themselves, if taking up a spot on the list when things are so tight at the moment really the best the future of the club? When Harley retired he said it was because he didn't want to take up a spot on the list that could go to a younger player, that he had had his time; we may need to have a few senior players take that unselfish road this year to keep the regeneration of the club going.
The culture of the club and club harmony is important, but I don't think that necessarily means keeping a senior player on the list just because he wants to play for another season, it has to be about team balance and keeping the team in the best position moving forward - next year & beyond.
We just need to look at a team like St Kilda who kept pushing for a flag, kept playing their senior guys at the expense of development and we can see the position they are now in. We have to keep a balance between our senior players, developing our youth & giving our youth their chance.
I think we all agree that spots on the list at the end of this season are going to be at a premium and if the last call the club has to make prior to list lodgement is between giving Chappy 1 more year or re-signing on of our youth who has the potential to be a 10yr player (such as Shroder), I would want to see them go with the youth. Next year Schroder may not have the same impact at AFL level that we are used to from Chappy, but we have put 3 years of development into him and the last thing the club needs is to be delisting players with potential after 3/4yrs due to keeping players on the brink of retirement and then being forced to start with the development process again in 12months time & letting another club reap the benefits of the players we have developed.
The club acknowledged last year that we have a lack of players in the 23 -> 27 age bracket, we don't need to start losing kids who are 20-21yrs old because they can't get a game at the club so they seek opportunities elsewhere.

It's just silly (and this is not directed at you specifically Rosso) all the repetitive suggestions that Blitz should or will remain on the rookie list.
This would be like if people were going around at the end of 2010 saying Pods should remain on the rookie list after the debut year he had.
If you are regularly in the best 22, and playing finals in the afl squad, you are getting elevated at year's end. End of.
I know we all suggest it because we love our guys and we don't want to delist any so we want to create scenarios in which we can keep one more senior listed player, but it isn't going to happen.

As for Chapman, I don't think friday night changed a lot.
His form pre injury was never in question and the decision won't be about form. He's still playing very well and on form is comfortably in our top dozen players.
The question is his body, and whether he's only going to play 8 games again next year. If they think his body can get through close to a full season, he'll get another year, and if not he won't.
I don't think his form in the finals, much as it is crucial for the chances of winning the flag, will have much bearing on the decision.

Balls on the block. Delist HMAC, save the salary cap space , chapman with a 1 yr deal and re-sign some more up and comers to 2 yr deals with the leftover $$.
West and HMAC now gone.
GO CATTERS
If we delisted him we'd have to pay out the last two years of his contract inside the salary cap and there's no way we'd have room to do that.

Ain't gonna happen, even if I think he's a white elephant.

West will be a big call though, as I think he will request a trade so we will need to make a call on whether we trade him (and whether we need to get in more ruck cover if we do).
