Given we're basically halfway through the SC Season, I thought it would be a good time to get everyone's self-assessments. Looking back over the season so far, what did you get right, and what did you get wrong??

Edit: This is a thread for posting your opinion of your SC season, not for agreeing or disagreeing with other people's opinions of their team.

For me..

What I got right:
  • Starting with: McVeigh, Hibberd, GAJ, Pendles, Beames, Danger, Sandi, Higgins, Dusty??, Polec
  • Putting Thurlow in my starting team - gives me a valuable DPP
  • Bringing in at the right time: Swallow, Bartel, Jaensch, Langdon, Jelwood, Goddard, NN, Boomer, Gray, Parker, Breust
  • Avoiding players everyone was raving about (Wingard, Furphy (that's not a troll Gingy, just my opinion :)), Walker, Zorko, Enright, Mummy and every single KPF ;))
  • Skipping over Gunston, who I rated highly with Buddy gone
  • Avoiding the following rookies: Bews, Hallahan, Hartung, Cameron
  • Trades in the first 2 rounds. Bought in Langdon/Swallow/Tyson who I didn't start with
Regrets:
  • Picking up Ambrose right before his price rise and having him sit on my bench injured for more than a month. Ditto for Acres.
  • Watson. Thought he'd return to his 2012 form. He didn't. Produced what I consider mediocre form for his original price and now he's out
  • Not starting with K.Jack. I lusted over him all year last year and promised myself I'd start with him this year. I didn't.
  • Spending all preseason tossing up between Rocky and Libba (both were in my team for long stretches) and ending up taking neither of them
  • Starting with: Tom Mitchell, Porpy, Sam Mitchell, Michie, Geogiou, Webster (SK you SPUD - why did I listen after you burnt me so last year)
  • Trading out Tyson too early. Ditto for JKH.
  • Bringing in Stevie J, despite all my hesitation, right before he played against Crowley, only to trade him out the following week
  • McEvoy. Cost me crucial points because I held the faith.

For the moment I'll add that bringing in Zac Merrett off the back of 1 match was a godsend. Made me the cash quickly which enabled me to bring in a premium to my midfield and save lots of cash to utilize on another premium.

Nroo got him at his top price, Kelly injury, Ryder to Mummy all reamed me this year. Rucks especially have caused me the most havoc!
Something smells about Jaensch too, hope I'm wrong. Agreed with T Mitchell, just a massive disappointment, throw in Rohan as well.
Not starting with Tyson, and Lloyd and Ambrose have just shit me all year. But God I love Super Coach, greatest game in the world.:thumbsu:

Rd 1 initial team FAIL: S Mitchell Walker, Daisy, T Mitchell, Cox & McDonut

Trade IN FAIL: Fasolo, Cyril, Mummy, JMerrett

Rookie downgrade FAIL: Acres, SLloyd

---

Rd 1 initial team WIN: Beams, Murphy, Bartel, McV + ALL the best rookies

Trade IN WIN: Jacobs, Swallow, McRae, Pendles, Dusty, Zorko, Jacobs, SJ*

Rookie downgrade WIN: Hallahan

What i got right:

Started with: Ablett,Pendles,Danger,Sandi,Beams,Simpson,Higgins,Dusty,Derickx(over Currie),Tyson,Langdon,Langford,Polec

Bringing in before price rises/when bottomed out: Jaensch,Swallow,Goddard,Selwood,SJ,Jacobs after the Mummy injury,Ambrose when he finally returned-Has since looked good and a BE of -5 should see him near 300k in a couple of weeks

Avoiding common players such as: Wingard,Roughy,Chapman,Zorko,Walker,Enright,

Trading my backside off to get me to/keep me in the position i'm in to date

The byes. Improved on my already good overall position and was able to pocket 1000 bucks along the way.

Coming on here for advice

Regrets:

Starting with T.Mitchell,S.Mitchell,Mummy,Buddy,Hurn,McDonough,Michie,Georgiou

Trading in:Swan on ANZAC day(huge that day but poor ever since),Breust(Hasn't tonned up since i've had him-4 weeks ago),Acres(Sub and injured the week i get him),Bews(Doesn't know what a sherrin looks like, now dropped),Cutler(Can't get a game at the bloody Lions of all teams),Hibberd(Like Breust, hasn't tonned up since i got him-6 weeks ago),Hartung(Avoided the vest the game i traded him in, since then was vested every other time including when Swan was a late out so got stuck with his sub score. Then, like Acres, was sub and finally got on only to get injured moments later),S.Lloyd and Fas

Tossed up between Watson and Rocky all pre season, needless to say i went Watson

Tossed up between T.Mitchell and Parker all pre season. See above

All in all i'm very happy with my season. A lot more has paid off then it hasn't. Looking at my regrets list, a lot of players i've traded in haven't worked out. Sitting 24th overall so i'm not going to sit here and whinge about how i should be going better, i couldn't be happier with where i am

Actually, I should probably add Sutcliffe to my regrets. Inside word was wrong, I was wrong. He was terrible early. Probably could have held him longer with his 70's and pissed off SK instead of Sutty at Round 5 though.

My starting side was'nt to bad started with
Simpson picked him over hanley.
DSwallow.
Murphy.
SJ who was really good in the early rounds.
Gray best starting pick ever my me.
Beams most people would of started with him.
Brang in hallahan after people said hes got no JS he got to close to 300k.

Regrets: Starting with VIv michie,Pkye,Caddy,Rohan,McCarthey,Enright
Trading Regrets: going tyson > swan dunstan > Bruest caddy > fas.Mcarthey > Acers > Billy.

Good trading Rohan > Taylor,Lemmens > Ambrose,Impey > hallahan looked before impey game last week.langford >Jwench looked good 2 weeks ago.

I think i am going down the same path of last year having a OK team and not a gun team hopfully no more injuries and i can bring in some big guns

in to my team.

Positives:

Starting with Beams, Gaz (of course), Sandi and the cash cows Aish, Dunstan, JKH, Polec, Langford, Langdon, Tyson and Ellis.
Took the risk of picking Suckling and Higgins at the start and it paid off.
Bringing in M.Murphy, Swallow, Boomer, Gray and a few others.

Negatives:
Starting with Caddy, M.Crouch, Webster, Rohan, T.Mitch, Enright and Lobbe.
Trading out Crouch after he wasn't named, straight to Georgiou. 3 weeks later did the exact opposite Georgiou > Crouch again. Waste of 2 trades.
Bringing in Mummy after his hot start, banged out a 120+ then proceeded to be out for 4 weeks.
Traded Lobbe out after his horrible start, only to bring him back in 4 weeks later fml. Another waste of 2 trades.

Don't want to jinx myself by posting my successes
^^^ This!

here are my clear-cut mistakes where nothing good came out of them... I've made a lot more mistakes but I think there's light at the end of the tunnel
-traded in Cotchin at 520k after his bye (and I'm trading him out this week)
-started with Cloke, rage traded him after rd1 and threw away a trade
-traded out Tyson way too early in rd6
-starting with Webster, Caddy, Michie and Rohan

What I got right

Starting with JPK, McVeigh, Malceski, Simpson, Zorko, Dahlhouse and Murphy. Zorko has been great other than his injury and illness games and, for all the criticism he gets, Murphy has been excellent value.
Starting with an extra rookie so I could decide on my last premo forward or back after round 1 gave me more info. That led to me trading in Swallow after round 1 instead of starting with Petrie. It was a toss up between Swallow and Gray. Gray would have been a better choice, but Swallow has been great ... far better than Petrie.
Starting with rookies Langdon, Langford, Polec, Dunstan and choosing Derickx over Currie.
Not trading out any starting $300k plus players unless injured.
Trading in Bartel and getting Harvey and Hurn at close to bottom price.
Avoiding the pre-season hype speculative players like Wingard, Tom Mitchell, Webster, Caddy, Sutcliffe, Walters and Rohan.

What I did wrong
Choosing Ryder in a toss up over Jacobs, then trading him to Mumford when he was injured only to trade Mumford to Jacobs a week later when he was injured.
Planning to trade Impey>Harvey but falling about $2k short so then trading JKH>Rioli instead of Impey>Roughead ... just in time for JKH to score over 100 and Rioli to injure his hammy while Impey scored an 8 and ruined his value.
Round 9 captain. Chose Beams (~100) over Dangerfield (~150) in a toss up as VC despite posting on here what a great VC choice Danger would be. Then chose Montagna (47) over JPK (~150) in another toss up as captain. 94 from my captain while those with Ablett got about 370 pretty much ended my season.
Round 9 trades. Wanted to trade in Harvey and Bartel but fell a couple of $k short of being able to do it so went a crazy different direction instead, trading in JJK and HShaw who weren't playing that week but strengthened my round 10 position. When they did play the next week they rewarded me with a pair of scores in the the 30s.

Main idiotic blunders by Gimp Brigade:

Starting with Walker/Wingard over Simpson/Gray after having the latter combo all preseason. Not having Swallow in my starting squad. Trading Tyson first instead of Dunstan.

Rucks Nic nat, sandilands emerg cam wood dan currie
forwards: roughhead pavilch zorko frankiln cloke higgins emergency tay walker cam shenton

not many trades think this is the time of the year where you will catch up a few teams on the hop who aint quite at full strength
think it provides abit of unique players, good back ups targetting 2600 ++
thoughts?

no thoughts in this thread, its purely a post and cry / brag thread

First time playing supercoach, so my team was fairly 'cookie cutter' really had no idea how this game worked.

But I decided to go with a 3-0-5 mid, to be a little different. (As I didn't like the defensive & forward rookie & I felt like mid rookies would make cash quicker)

I was expecting a fairly slow start, but was thrilled to be in the top 1800 after round three.

Then the injuries hit, every week filled with injuries. It just won't stop.

I Slowly started to fall away.

Due to these injuries I quickly upgraded a couple of spots in my Def/For, now I'm stuck with guys like Rob Murphy & Pav, etc. :drunk:

Probably a little foolish but I needed to do something.

I finally started to upgrade my mids

In came Selwood, Watson, SJ, Swan & NDS.

Lost my cool & brought in Lecras not my greatest move.

Now I'm ranked 8400. Season in tatters, what a cruel game.

What I got right: starting with Swallow, JPK, M.Murphy as well as most other popular picks
Having patience with guys who were frustrating... Buddy, Nic Nat, Hanley who have come good
What I got wrong: starting with Cotchin, spent too much money on my initial ruck combo- sandi, Nic Nat, hickey ... If only I had a rookie r3 and used the money to get Ablett (who I still don't have!) instead of Cotchin
Best trade: fairly happy with my rd 3 corrective trades of Hodge to Jaensch and Rohan to Dahlhaus
Worst trade: hind sights a beautiful thing but went Langdon to Mitchell in round 6 ... Who woulda thought that trade would cost me $200k and 100 points
Fairly happy with my year after a slow start... Was ranked 85,000 after round 4 and climbed into the top 10k this week

Things I did right: Starting with Libba, Simpson, Mcveigh, Parker.
Trading in Goddard and Hanley at the right time.
Starting with Watson over Cotchin
Opting for Pendles over Swan (thought Swan would return to best)
Avoiding the rave of players such as Tex, Enright, Wingard etc.
Starting with Polec
Starting with Beams over Murphy
Holding faith in the Bud
Picking up Hanley instead of Jaensch 2 weeks ago

Things I did wrong: Rucks. Completely f****d it up. Started with Sandi (obviously) and Ryder. Ryder got injured traded to Mummy. Mummy got injured traded to Hickey. Hickey got injured traded to Longer (god knows why) now bringing in Nic Nat this week (massive risk)
Starting with Michie, Georgiou, Rohan, Impey.
Jumping off JKH and Lewis Taylor way too early(both went on to make another 100k)
Tossed up whether to start with Caddy, Macrae or Suckling. Went Caddy
Getting on spud rookies such as Bews, Aylett, S Lloyd, Acres.
Not getting Derickx at the start, and opting for Currie and King instead. (having Derickx would have not caused my massive ruck dilemma)
Opting for Michie over Tyson

Things I did right:

* Nailed the mid rookies. No Michie or Martin, had Tyson, Dunstan and Polec all from Rd 1.
* Starting with David Swallow.
* Starting with Murphy (though he's been a bit of a rollercoaster, lol)
* Having Derickx as my R3 from Rd 1.
* Starting with Langford.
* Bringing in Goddard, Jacobs, Grey, Langdon, Simpson and Harvey at the right time.
* Timing the Polec, Tyson and McDonald ideally.
* Picking Pendles over Ablett as my R2 captain.

Things I did wrong:

* Buddy. Not only did I start with him, I palmed him off just before he came good.
* Starting with Thomas, T Mitchell, Leuenberger, Hurn, Caddy and Franklin.
* Palming Crouch for Wanganeen before R1.
* Impey. Started to finally get decent scores as soon as I palmed him.
* Bringing in Dane Swan.
* Bringing in Janesch over Hanley.
* Bringing in Mumford.
* Bringing in Burgoyne (though admittedly Hodge was my first choice before being a late scratching)
* Jumped on Lloyd, Hartung, Acres and Aylett.

Overall I'm 1,645, which is damn good. The highest score overall in my main league, and by a fair distance.
