2014 Season for some NASCAR drivers has started or continued this weekend at the Chili Bowl for Speedcars in Tulsa, OK. The event has around 280 entries this year, with racing going over 5 nights. On Night 1, Kyle Larson won the Race of Champions, which included other NASCAR Drivers Kasey Kahne (8th), Kevin Swindell (11th) and J.J. Yeley (12th). Kahne is running a Jason Leffler tribute car this year, which is the car Tony Stewart ran last year. In the qualifying A-Features, only the top 3 place getters directly qualify for the Saturday night 55 lap final.

In the Night 1 Chili Bowl Qualifying A-Feature, Larson ran 5th from the 16th starting position. On Night 2, J.J Yeley crashed out on the last corner of the A-Feature Qualifier whilst running 4th after contact. On Night 3, Kevin Swindell drove to 4th in the Qualifying night A-Featrure after starting 13th in the C-Feature, effectively passing 37 cars for position in the process. Ricky Stenhouse Jr started 3rd in his C-Feature and drove to 5th in his B-Feautre, missing the A-Feature by 1 spot. The A-Feature was won by a teenager called Christopher Bell, who many dirt track people are likening to a younger Kyle Larson. Have mentioned him in this thread before - I believe if given a NASCAR lifeline could do a similar job to what Larson is. Also directly transferring to the Saturday A-Feature for the 3rd time in 3 Chili Bowl attempts was Kiwi Michael Pickens. There are still 2 more nights of action to come.

Last "qualifying" night of the Chili Bowl, Kasey Kahne started from pole in his B-Main, but had engine issues I think and DNF'd, meaning he missed out on making the A-Main for night 4, which was won by Bryan Clauson. A few keen USA motorsport followers might recognise his name as he has raced in the Nationwide Series for Ganassi as a teenager a few years back and hjas raced a bit in the Indy Lights and made a couple starts in the Indy 500 also. Other notables were Tim McCreadie who finshed 2nd to Clauson and Chad Boat, who finished the feature in 8th. Boat is the son of Billy Boat, an IRL racer from the 90's. Expect to see Boat running in the Nationwide series this season.

Night 5 of the Chili Bowl is feature night and the 55 lap A-Main was won by Bryan Clauson. Clauson started in position 3 and took the lead over on lap 3 or 4 and led for the remainder. 2nd was Kevin Swindell, who started from position 1 in one of the B-Mains and won that before driving from 14th to 2nd in the A-Main. 3rd was Christopher Bell (Started 2nd) who ran 2nd pretty much the entire journey until a "bold" move from Swindell relegated him to 3rd and nearly took him out of the race. 4th was Pennsylvanian Alex Bright who started from position 12 and silently moved his way forward. Bright was racing at Speedway City for the weekend before and personally was a pleasure to watch. Other notables in the A-Feature were Tim McCreadie (6th, started 8th), 2013 WoO Sprintcar Champion Daryn Pittman in his one annual Midget race (7th, started 2nd in B-Main 1, 17 in the A-Main), Chad Boat (10th, started 8 in B-Main 2, 18th in A-Main), Sammy Swindell (14th, started 6th), Kiwi Michael Pickens (DNF 20th, started 11th) and Kyle Larson (DNF 22nd, Started B-Main 1 4th, A-Main 15th). Pickens flipped the car and it was too damaged to restart. Larson detonated his motor after getting to about 5th close to 1/3rd race distance a couple laps after contact with Sammy Swindell which sent Sammy through the infield.

Other notables to not make the A
-J.J Yeley 11th in B-Main 1 (Only the top 6 from each B-Main make the rear of the A-Main), started 1st in the D-Main
-Ricky Stenhouse JR 7th in C-Main 2 (Only the top 6 transfer to B-Main), started 2nd in E-Main 2.
-Kasey Kahne 10th in F-Main 2 (Only top 4 transfer to E-Main), started 11th in G-Main 2. Was involed in crash which damaged the car I think in the F-Main.

The B-Main 2 had an interesting last lap which led to this "discussion" in the pits.

The guy in the Great Clips firesuit isn't Kasey Kahne. You can see Kyle Larson and team-mate Rico Abreu watching on at the end. Also, the whole A-Main is on youtube, but I'm not posting it here as I think the video might be breaking copyright infringements. If you want to watch it, search Chili Bowl and filter for videos in the last week -it's about 42 minutes long.

If it's break he will end up back in Supercars
Penske...

There are 49 cars entered for the Daytona 500. In numerical order they are....

(1) McMurray, (2) Brad Keselowski, (3) A.Dillon, (4) Harvick, (5) Kahne, (7) Annett, (9) Ambrose, (10) Patrick, (11) Hamlin, (13) Mears, (14) Stewart, (15) Bowyer, (16) Biffle, (17) Stenhouse, (18) Kyle Busch, (20) Kenseth, (21) Bayne, (22) Logano, (23) Bowman, (24) Gordon, (26) Whitt, (27) Menard, (30) Kligerman, (31) Newman, (32) T.Labonte, (33) Scott, (34) Ragan, (35) McClure, (36) Sorenson, (38) Gilliland, (40) Cassill, (41) Kurt Busch, (42) Larson, (43) Almirola, (47) Allmendinger, (48) Johnson, (51) Allgaier, (52) B.Labonte, (55) Vickers, (66) Waltrip, (77) Blaney, (78) M.Truex, (83) R.Truex, (87) Nemechek, (88) Earnhardt Jr, (93) Methuselah (Shepherd), (95) McDowell, (98) Wise, (99) Edwards

6 drivers have to either get in on speed or race their way in via the duels, namely: Whitt, Kurt Busch, B.Labonte, Blaney, Methuselah, McDowell. If a past champions provisional is NOT required by any eligible driver, then Kurt Busch or B.Labonte could use one. Tony Stewart is NOT planning to use a backup driver. There are 7 Rookies in the field (Dillon, Annett, Bowman, Kligerman, Larson, Allgaier, R.Truex). For the purposes of the championship, 6 drivers (Bayne, Scott, McClure, Cassill, Nemechek and Methuselah) are ineligible for championship points.

18 drivers will be taking part in the Sprint Unlimited, formerly known as the shootout: McMurray, Brad Keselowski, Harvick, Ambrose, Patrick, Hamlin, Stewart, Stenhouse, Kyle Busch, Kenseth, Logano, Gordon, Newman, T.Labonte, Kurt Busch, Johnson, Earnhardt Jr, Edwards. 20 were eligible but both Ken Schrader and Pops Martin have retired (we think).

NUMBER CHANGES
- The 3 Team was 29 last year
- 4 was 39
- 23 was 93 from last year, this year's 93 is a new team
- 55 was 56 from last year
- 66 was 55 from last year, Waltrip will probably do the plate races, Jeff Burton will do a handful of retirement runs, Joe Nemechek to do the remainder (believed to be about 28 with the others in his own car)
- 77 was 19
- 26, 41 and 52 (52 was from the former owner of the 51 who sold that team, 41 is from the Stewart stable, 26 is a teammate to 30) are NEW teams
