Cegs, Timmy and Vickery.

Gee it's gonna be competitive for that second ruck spot

To make it crazier we then have other spots on the ground where TOB and TV might consider as an alternative - if we are talking tall forwards we have Rough, Gunner and Schoenamkers - if we are talking tall/third defenders we have Brand, Strats and Frawley.

That's a lot of "ready" tall players

Is it possible Clarko will do a FU to the Tigres and go in tall this year?

I like Pitto too btw

PS: Some joker started a thread on this board suggesting a lack of talls - what a tool

That would be....

I'd like to see us play with 2 ruckman, even though this is going against the "smalls" trend thanks to Richmond.

Ceglar or Pittonet can play the predominantly ruckman role and McEvoy can roam around using his athleticism, cluncking a few grabs up forward.

On Pittonet, if he could snag a few more goals here and there then it would definitely help his cause. Turns 22 years old in JUNE next year, so still a baby in ruck terms. McEvoy turns 29 next year, still has plenty of good years left in him and off a career best year. Competition is good.

He has started writing his name on the whiteboard when Clarko steps out of his office.
Subliminal campaign tactics.
I’d give him a game on that basis alone. Would take some real courage to mess with Clarko’s whiteboard!

Can't believe people are suggesting playing with 2 rucks in the modern game, the only you'd want to do that is if you had one that could be a B grade Forward.
McEvoy can go forward.

He struggles in the forward line, actually tends to kick more goals when he floats in from the Ruck rather than resting forward.

Two rucks in the modern game could be advantageous if there is good enough timber and ball movement around them.

I agree though, we're definitely starting next year with McEvoy as our sole ruckman - luckily we have TO and Roughy to pinch hit, so we won't be stuck like Richmond needing to use Grigg.

You only need two rucks if your forwards are otherwise short. Can’t carry two rucks plus roughy, tob, shoey, vickery and gunners. Would only want two of them if we play two rucks.

I agree, Hale was a top notch ruck-forward. Very dangerous.

I think Schoey is the exception here, he played that 2015 grand final as a wingman which played to his advantage. He has beautiful disposal and is quite quick even though he doesn't look it.

Gunston might play cross half back from now on despite fans hating it he played the role so damn well, Vickery will never get another senior game, Shoey and Tob best inform will get selected. I can easily see two rucks being selected specially if we decide to manage Roughead more.

So you're saying if Tyrone comes out kicking 6 goals every week in the VFL he won't get a senior game?

If he could use his height to take a contested mark it'd suit him perfectly. Unfortunately he's a poor contested mark and more often than not easily outpointed in contested marking situations both as a forward and as a backman. His Goal kicking technique is excellent and I had hopes for him as lead up forward but this hasn't eventuated either.

Will be interesting to see how he goes for this reason. He's quite polarizing.

He'll take a nice mark, or he'll look to have clunked one and then fumble it right at the end. That's why I'd like to see him on the wing, bigger bodies on the outside could be the next thing.

Has he got the tank for today's ruck needs and is he able to go foward, clunk a few and kick a goal?

Not yet, not really.

He played most of the year as the number one ruck due to Cegs being out for the season, TV being ordinary and playing more time up forward, and Fitzy having a career ending concussion. Doing that much on ball work tested his tank but gave him very little opportunity to rest forward and practice taking contested marks up forward and converting them.

He has had a very good in 2017 and I think being the number one ruck has accelerated his development. His overhead marking has improved a fair bit during 2017 as did in his confidence in attempting pack marks.

Each year season he has played he has become discernibly better, its just that his rate of improvement has been slow and steady which is a good outcome but has to expected from a draft pick 50 in an average draft.

Pitto will be waiting behind Timmy and McEvoy for his shot. Tmmy is purely a pinch hitter though.

More likely needs McEvoy to retire before he’ll be given a chance to cement a spot.

Does anyone, who has watched Pittonet in the VFL more than me, know if he is effective when being rested as a fwd or defender? The kid is a big unit and I am wondering if he can perform the Paul Salmon 'drop back in the hole' or David Hale 'pinch hit in the fwd line' role to any degree. One thing that the team lacks is KPP depth and the possibility that he could contribute something in that respect would make him a much more valuable prospect.

Seems to read the play OK, however, has average hands when marking and is an inconsistent kick (high ball drop) so is likely not a KPF option at the moment. Has upside in the ruck and has come along in leaps and bounds in the last year - has a bit of mongrel which is always handy and does make the other onballers walk a bit taller

Started looking a bit better up forward late in the year. Needs to continue that development in 2018.

I remember reading knighmares blog on Pittonet when we drafted him. Made an interesting comment about the size of his hands I.e said that for a guy 202cm tall, his hands or wingspan were disproportionally small to his overall size. Went on to further say that watching him play games, his ability to take contested marks was quite poor.

From the little vision of I have seen of him, I definitely concur with knightmares early call. Just doesn’t take enough contested marks for a guy his size and seems to have concrete hands at times. Hope I’m proven wrong but so far he seems miles behind big boy and cellar in terms of his contested marking abilities.

With Cegs out last year he had to play as the solo specialist ruckman being relieved by a pinch hitter just like McEvoy did in the seniors with TOB relieving him. Thus Pittonett did not get much of a go playing a Hale role. When he was down there he showed that he needed a lot more time to get on top of that facet of a ruckman's game. He is not a strong mark overhead and does not take many marks around the ground unlike McEvoy.

Thought Pitto played really well today despite the fact Geelong didn't have a genuine ruck for 75% of the game. Looks like he's really starting to mature as a ruckman and it's great to see.

Yup I thought he was pretty useful. Good at clearing bodies!

He will get better quickly once played regularly I reckon.

Jeez he’s a big unit tho!

I thought he was pretty poor today, should’ve monstered Blicavs after Stanley was injured early but didn’t.
He offers nothing around the ground as his marking technique is very flawed, goes one handed most the time.
His skills are quite poor even for a ruckman, reckon he’s played his one and only game for the year and wouldn’t have played if not for Lewis getting injured last week.
