Much ado about nothing IMO.

Our home game and we should be wearing our home strip and be able to play Public Image Limited over the speakers if we so choose.
**** the VFL.

We cannot and so be it.
**** the VFL.

Playing in prison bars? A few years ago I would gave gone Yeeah. Now it's meh.
The big deal that once was there doesn't exist any more from a Port perspective.

Nothing will be gained and nothing will be lost from wearing black and white apart from making the VFL realise that most of the Australian public see the AFL as AFL and not VFL.
**** the VFL.

Exactly.

……..Port Adelaide identities in the last 24 hours and all of them say Kochie made the wrong decision…….

But but but but ….it's the prison bars!! All Power supporters are supposed to embrace this. There will be a sea of teal in the outer, but the team will be wearing black and white.

Looked for the Rucci article on Port's handling of jumperfraud, that would have been lampooning, ridiculing, criticising, mocking the AFC had the AFC been involved, but LOL, only found a mundane statement of events. Imagine the headlines if it had been the Crows. But I forgot - Port's admin do everything better than the AFC.

Apart from disappointing and pissing off non-magpie power supporters.

You might want to pass that on to other Power posters.

and may I add - **** the AFL as well.

Having spent the best part of 3 months in a hospital bed, its nice to be out and about and home again.

With that said, I wanted to thank all the doctors and nurses that treated me well at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.:thumbsu:

From a supporters perspective I feel robbed that I lost being able to follow my Club properly in 2014. I was able to pick up bits and pieces here and there from family, friends, and C7.

But there is some things I just cant understand WTF happened this year? Did we have players injured, because usually I only saw the selected team once it hit the ground and I couldnt understand some of the selections made and just from what I saw only on the TV (so please excuse me if I am way wrong) I got the feeling we lost crucial matches basically in the coaches box. Was Matt Crouch injured since June??

Anyways its nice to be back and I look forward to the banter with my fellow true die hard supporters for what will be an exceptionally long preseason! :(

Welcome back GROTTO. Your absence was definitely noticed, and I hope you're on the mend now.

Besides the Showdown win, you didn't miss two much in the latter half of the season.

I don't believe that is the case. Some people have been saying that sort of crap at every opportunity for years and it's never been the case.
Makes for a good spin though.

I do feel a little bit for Port -

Firstly, it shouldn't even be a bloody issue as they should be straight up wearing the jumper they've won at every other Adelaide Oval match this season..

Secondly, that get's taken away by the VFL and they desperately run around trying to find a solution that doesn't see them wearing all white

End up with Prison Bars, which sentimentally sounds pretty cool, but it starts to undo a whole lot of progress they have recently made with their branding and identity...

It's a mess no matter which way you look at it...

I'm really not sure why you guys are so concerned. The data shows that 93% of Port supporters are also Magpie supporters. Most Port supporters have barracked for Port their whole lives. They know who Port are and where they come from.
Any Crows supporter over 30 used to barrack for some one else. Does being "The Pride of South Australia" preclude people that are from or reside elsewhere from barracking for the for the Crows? I mean seriously, these arguments go around in circles.

That 93% figure changes depending on the circumstances.

I reckon its more like 20-25%. If it was only 7% you guys would be in deep shit as a club.

I'm really not sure why you guys are so concerned. ....

It's a matter of equity.

I have a healthy respect for Port Adelaide but wish no good will to the onfield success of the team! I hope Norwood smash the Magpies on Saturday.

However, none of that changes the fact that the AFL have dicked you guys over in the most ridiculous way and put the club in a difficult situation that they shouldn't have even have to have contemplated... I'm not overly concerned about non-Magpie supporters getting annoyed at the PB, because that basically doesn't make sense (it's still Port Adelaide, ffs)

If anything it's just the wider national audience that may get confused... There are plenty of people interstate that don't know any SANFL history, or care about SANFL history, who have watched Port Adelaide's rise from the cellar over the past 2 seasons and have maybe taken them on as a second team type deal... Come Sunday afternoon there is going to be a completely different strip out on Adelaide Oval that the national audience hasn't seen at all this season... it's a bit rough...

also it's a big talking point so there is going to be lots of discussion about it no matter what :D

Think we overstate the SANFL thing these days any rate. Look at the numbers, not that many people actually give a shit about the SANFL. The youngsters certainly don't.
IMO tad exaggerated but along the right lines. Any so called new supporters at AFL level both know and respect the heritage.
The only people that seem to have or pretend they have an issue are non Port supporters so that in itself makes it a non issue.

I'm baffled by the whole thing.
So Port rightfully don't want to wear an away strip. The AFL won't approve Richmonds alternate even though it has been worn against Port since 2010.

The solution? Port wear their predominantly black prison bar strip with white shorts.

My questions;

Why are Port wearing white shorts? Richmond are the away team surely they wear white shorts.
Isn't the point of alternate strips to not have colour clashes? The solution now has two teams wearing predominantly black tops.

Someone at the AFL needs a kick in the head. This is pathetic management and decision making.

You mean the national audience haven't ad nauseam heard the 1870 dribble. Lucky them

Well my Mum is in Brisbane, so obviously doesn't get a lot of footy news...

It was funny, she rang me last night to tell me four Crows players made the AA squad, which somehow I hadn't actually heard about at that stage...

But then I told her about the Port jumper fiasco and she hadn't heard that at all....

If someone didn't keep up with bigfooty sites or the like, but watches AFL.. especially finals, there's every chance come Sunday afternoon they turn on the Port Adelaide v Richmond game and they go 'what the f... is this?'

In ports defense they were damned either way. Shit effort by the afl to force them into this in the first place. Another example of how largely irrelevant SA football is in the national comp.

Such a nice feeling getting out. Had my first hospital stay last month at the Queen Elizabeth, was impressed with the care but it was hell being cooped up and I was only in for a short period of time. Certainly made me realize how much I was taking my health for granted. Good to hear you're out.

You missed a whole bunch of frustration on here. Was
probably not a bad thing missing the in-depth stuff...was painful at times. Hard to put a finger on exactly what went wrong but many put the blame on Sando, we had some head scratchers with selections and it didn't seem like he could adapt on the fly. Injuries didn't help, very little leadership in games, mental weakness that seemed to creep back in throughout...

We signed Mackay for 4 more years though :thumbsu:

In all seriousness, that's what I don't get though. How does wearing the prison bars increase that figure from 7% in the future? You can't continue to survive on your existing supporter base from the SANFL. They're not growing and there's not enough of them for you to remain viable through the troughs.

You need to continue attracting new supporters, but this is likely to have the opposite effect. You're just alienating the 7% who didn't grow up supporting Port. Highly unlikely to have many neutrals watching on the weekend that are going to feel inclined to support you now, either.

Sounds like a great idea Kochie had that no-one from the marketing team was brave enough to stand up to him on and say 'Time and place'.

50,000 members, 44,000 average home attendance would say otherwise. The re connection with the heart land (along with the small fact that we are playing better football and the Adelaide Oval is a massive draw card) has happened over the last 2 years and look at the results.

Sure, we probably aren't ever going to be as big as the Quasi State Team, and no doubt when the lusture of the AO and our form drops off our crowds will decrease, but geez that can be said of pretty much every team in the comp. look at Collingwood's crowd last week. Friday night, still in the hunt for finals, big cross city rival, there would have been lucky to be 20,000 Magpie supporters there.

Do you guys need reminding that in your last home final at West Lakes you got under 32,000???

The only people who seem to sweat these issues are Crows supporters. I know one Port supporter who hates the Prison Bar. Grew up a Bays and Crows supporter. Hated Port. Worked at Port in a professional capacity for 3 years and changed his allegiance to the Power. Watching his beloved Bays getting the shit kicked out them in so many Grand Finals has scarred him for life. He is over 40 though. He is in the minority. The younger generation do not give 2 hoots about the SANFL.

93%? You sure about that? If that's true, and you don't have the audacity to suggest more than half of all SANFL supporters follow the Magpies, then it only proves how relatively small Port's supporter base is in the state. But that can't be right, because you were laughing at the very idea of it being a 70-30 split?

Honestly stay on your own board! How you have the time to come on here every few minutes as well as presumably your own board I'll never know. Surely the lies & propaganda can stay in the Port board where it belongs.
