7% of our members are supporters of SANFL clubs other than Port Adelaide.
That's a few thousand. Your dad would be one of these.

The remaining 93% are supporters of Port in the SANFL or they have no SANFL allegiance.

2500 to SANFL Port Magpies Prison Bar against top of the table clash at the spiritual home of Port Power, Wow where were the 93% of diehards true Port Adelaide Prison bar supporters that day? Lol This 93% must have 90% no allegiance and 3% true Port Adelaide Prison Bar supporters

Logic is not your strong point, is it.

The culture is and has almost always been a load of rubbish. In 05 they capitalised on our injury riddled implosion and an overiding emotion to break a long drought against a West Coast side who were always on the borderline of self destruction. In 2012 they had a damn good side who kicked alot straighter in key moments.

The reason they won those flags had nothing to do with culture and when they win this one, even less so. I have to laugh/vomit each time I hear it.
Agreed the "Bloods" culture, the "Shinboner" spirit, the "Creed" etc are all a load of wank.

What happened last year to North when they lost half a dozen games by a kick, or Port during 08-11 when for a lot of games they gave up and were pitiful, or the Sids going back awhile couldn't win a game.

Every club goes through up and downs no half arsed Culture, Spirit or Creed will stop that.
don't be too quick to knock "culture"

lack thereof is why we have half a team full of gutless wonders who won't remonstrate against the opposition when one of their teammates cops a flogging.

sure that doesn't win every close game on its own, but it wouldn't ****ing hurt.

I don't hear Geelong or Hawthorn expressing some sort of intangible that is exclusive to their team. Not Collingwood for that matter.

sure, naming it something ridiculous and plugging it at every opportunity is a load of wank. But clubs have culture, its unavoidable.

those three clubs have strong, winning cultures. Unnamed cultures, but cultures all the same.

did you hear Darren Berry's quote about when he took over the redbacks? "I've seen toilet blocks with more character than this place". That's culture too.

Yeah right.

The reason we have "a team of gutless wonders" is because we draft, trade and recruit that type of players.

Culture has nothing to do with it. Club culture can not change a players genetic make up because if they have it or they don't.

bullshit, the player's starting point is important, but the environment plays a huge part.

Exhibit A: Danyle Pearce, Exhibit B: Melbourne's improvement under Roos, Exhibit C: Jared Polec and no doubt there would be countless others if you thought about it long enough.

Sydney, Geelong, Freo, etc don't exclusively draft hard nut mongrel players, they make sure their recruits understand the requirements of playing for the club. No gold passes and no gifted games for a start.

That's not culture. That's peer pressure to meet your peers expectations. Massive difference.

If that was culture, why has Freo taken 20 years to play in a GF. Why did Port Power have 7 years in the shit and Melbourne have been crap for 10 years.

Culture is long term - it's about direction, what the club stands for and accepts and the decisions they make. It has zero to do with the current day playing group as the players are only short term owners of the club. The player turnover is every year.

Do we have a good, bad or indifferent culture? between 1991 and 2007 our culture was brilliant, however it's slowly slipped away but as soon as we start winning, that perceived culture will change but it doesn't. Overall - the culture of the crows is pretty good but we are just going through a poor patch right now.

Their culture isnt the reason they win flags though

Go and have a look at the Port thread on the Collingwood board. It's hilarious. They may have found a few supporters that believe their 1870 propoganda. You should see them flocking in with the "likes" - "please believe us".,..

but that isn't a massive difference at all, culture is just a word to describe the general ideas and/or behaviour of a society or smaller group. If these peer expectations are held by the majority of the group, by definition these expectations form the culture of that group.

I agree that culture trends are long-term, but they can certainly be changed and changed quickly if significant actions are taken. Lets look at some of the clubs we've just mentioned: Freo add Ross Lyon, massive turnaround. Port add Hinkley and cleanout upstairs, massive turnaround. Geelong undergo an independent review and make wholesale changes, massive turnaround. Sydney add Roos, massive turnaround. Melbourne add Roos, and we see the beginnings of improvement. That's because they are powerful personalities that demand change in the group's behaviour which then leads to a cultural shift.

Sando came in and for the large part went with the flow, hasn't made big changes to the playing group or coaching staff and therefore hasn't instilled a shift in attitude or culture as of yet.

If any of the AFL's jumpers were made in Australia, I'd eat Andrew Walker's hat --

Couldn't imagine something as big as the AFL giving a shit about paying decent wages in an industrialised country if there is cheap labour to be exploited...

You mean if they were torn apart....?

Can you imagine if something like that played out on Sunday? :p

This thread could literally double in days and there would probably be the festival of red cars on the Port board, with Crows fans saying "hello" on there.

You are a veteran on this board, what was the Crows forum like in 2007 on the last day in September??? Do you remember??

Vader??? Drugs Are Bad Mackay?

Just curious thats all.

Gutless wonders? Funny how many true hard men only seem to make this type of call from behind their keyboards :)

To be honest all I really remember clearly fron that period was the fallout from Massie on Franklin.

Even though we'd finished 8th the finals draw had really opened up for us. The Hawks were young and in their first finals series - there for the taking. Week 2 would have been the Kangas who we absolutely owned at the time. Then it would have been Dream Final II in the preliminary.

Every planet aligned and in a funny way was an easier run to the GF than 2005/2006.

119 certainly got a lot of airplay though as time went on, as did 2>1 after a brief hiatus.
