God Sydney's midfield is beautiful to watch. Their speed and agility across the board, how they share the ball around so quickly and always on the move for each other. They don't need a lot of space to operate and they make little bits of space with every exchange by hand until they open up a clean exit.

Add in the flexibility to play different positions, their defensive efforts both in terms of pressure acts and running and it's easily the bench mark. Perhaps not in clearance dominance but in potency it's hard to match.

Hoping someone dropped a bottle of sleeping pills in Sydney's powerade cooler. Need a Norf v Poort GF for me to have any interest next week.

How embarrassing. North getting a touch up!!

I laughed when they showed the margins predicted by the commentators. They were all sub 40 points, which won't happen unless Sydney put the cue in the rack.

Which they will

And no high draft picks among them

Smart recruitment and first class development proving top 5 draft picks aren't necessarily the way to build a midfield. Getting two KPF stars thanks to salary cap concessions helps build a list though

2005-14

Geelong : 4 GFs for 3 flags
Sydney : 4 GFs for 2* flags
Hawthorn : 4** for 2* flags

* could become 3 in a week
** assumes hawthorn win tomorrow

Barring a miracle from port 8 of the last 10 flags to these 3 teams who have unquestionably been the best managed off field over the last decade - we need to look at how these clubs operate and strive to emulate them

And Sydney will get Heeney and Dunkley coming in 2014/2015 drafts.

It takes the pressure of the midfield to score heavily at times and gives them the ability to slow the game down through contested marking power. Makes their midfield more potent on top of the more obvious improvement to scoring power up the pointy end.

aaand with that, the little interest I had in the 2014 AFL Finals Series just eroded a little bit more.

A hawthorn v Sydney GF was always on the cards

They are also the best two teams this year and it should be a high quality game

Yeah I'm not gonna bother watching if it's Hawthorn vs Sydney. Nothing about that matchup interests me.

At least if Port make it, there's the potential for a fairytale flag, and I'm a sucker for fairytale runs in sports.

After watching swans mids tonight you can see why ROK and Mitchell are not getting a game . They only need one slowish ball extractor in Kennedy and he is almost the best bid bodied clearance mid in the league . Then quick agile mids galore! Mitchell may be stuck in the seconds for a while especially with the likes of Hewett and heeney pushing for senior selections with much more pace to offer .
Can see Tom wanting a trade and if he is on the reported $400000-$500000 a year the swans will let him and bag a very good pick and have salary cap to play with

Yeah Sydney have ludicrous depth and it's going to get filled with even more top end talent in the next two years.

Going to be a few GC v Syd finals in the future (and maybe even a Sydney derby final before there's a western derby final)
