Seriously anyone watching this game and still thinks having Ebert would make the Eagles a finals bound team are kidding themselves. Under pressure his kicking has reverted to mean. Which is lucky to hit target.

Could have just cost them a grand final entry with that terrible play on from his mark.

If Wingard stood up Port would have won. They need more from him in big games next year if they want to go all the way.

Port got Eberted..Finally.:D:thumbsu:
Eberts kicking was shit there was 3 turnovers off his boot in the 1st quater alone , then the play on !
He Eberted them last year out of the finals as well . I still wish we had him but he is not the A grader people say he is

It's kind of ironic since he actively asked to play for them but I don't think Port's style suits Ebert athletically.

I think they aspire to run, play on at all costs, break tackles, kick long etc more than most other teams.

Ebert, however, isn't really fast enough or agile enough for that to work.

As a result he gets into a situation where he plays on and gets smothered because moving the ball on is the team instruction and time is ticking down; unfortunately he can't create enough time with his pace and he gets smothered.

He'd probably fit in better at Sydney with his desperate acts and defensive game but then his decision making and composure would probably stick out like a sore thumb.

Clearly written by someone who never watches port. They often use Ebert for his gut running and his ability to spread precisely because his decent agility and ok speed coupled with his height and gut running create problems for opponents.

His versatility is also very useful for them.

If you watched them (or understood footy - its one or the other) you'd see that.

I thought at times today he was one of the guys keeping them in it with work rate but hey, he played on in the dying seconds trying to win them the game and Hodge made a great defensive play - so yeah, he is slow and lacks agility ...

I'm just imagining Priddis doing that in a prelim, and the reaction..

*magic word*

We wouldn't be there with Priddis playing his current role; there's no chance Matt takes the mark that Ebert did and if he'd gone back and taken the kick it would have been a 30m floater ....

But yes, let's create hypotheticals to try and make some sort of point ...

Travis Varcoe missed a key goal last year ... why not raise Priddis then?

Ebert is a vastly more all round footballer than Priddis and we'd be a better team with him in ours. Would Port be better with Matt?

Ebert made the wrong decision, there were four Hawks within a 5-10 metre vicinity.

I don't blame him because if he pulled it off it may have been a game-winning move, but with 65 seconds left, he had more than enough time to play risky smart move, rather than a risky dumb move.

He was still amongst Port's best half dozen though for the day, so any Priddas comparisons should be rendered mute. He kept them in it despite his sometimes average kicking rearing its head today in a high pressure final.

Agree on all that. I'd just add that it's unlikely he was aware he had 65 seconds left ...

With respect, if you knew my history with Ebert you would know I'm up on his strengths and weaknesses.

I didn't suggest he was useless for Port either, that's a conclusion you jumped to. I'm simply suggesting that he's basically the only player in Ports 22 who isn't favoured by their desire to play on and run and carry. I will concede though that his running ability fits in well.... Like you said, he has his strong points.
