That's what I mean, we all know he played shit, and that he had limited game time, why stick the boot in.........well I guess I already know the answer to that. Just pisses me off, and it shouldn't. Just Freo fans being Freo fans I guess, 20 years of nothing but bitterness & hatred towards big brother will do that to a person;)
Haters going to hate. Ignore them.

On the Dayle Garlett subject, where are all those people who said West Coast were absolute fools to overlook him and that type of conservative outlook was why our club was shit? Looking like a solid decision to me.

17 other clubs decided to overlook him as well. It's not as if WC made a genius decision to do it or anything.

How do you think this compares to AFL catches? I would say above average but certainly not the "best ever".
What do you think?
When have you ever seen a grab like this in the AFL?

There were definitely more than 17 posts on this forum bemoaning the fact that we didn't take him though. There was more than one poster who though that Hawthorn had nailed an absolute bargain.

If they couldn't keep him in line when he was away from home, how much harder would it have been for us...

Geez, only "above average"? Thats pretty harsh. Different shaped balls makes it hard to compare though.

Amazing some of the catches they do drop though. For athletes getting paid 10's of millions of dollars a year, simple chest catches and also catches where they only get slight contact, seem to be dropped far too often.

I can imagine some AFL players would do well sitting in the end zone and just getting the quarterback to loop a ball in to the end zone.

There's been some similar ones in cricket, but not top level AFL.

I remember there was one a few years ago on Almost Football Legends of some kid getting a ride on a pack and then reaching behind his head to take a mark one handed like that, was amazing.

Yeah, you see some pretty amazing catches in cricket, but it's easier catching a cricket ball than a football ;). I've seen a zoomed in shot of that catch, and he's caught it between his thumb and index finger. Ridiculous.

Found the footage I was talking about, 3:56 in

Extra points as it appears to be a kid from WA as well :p

A fair bit of hatred over on the purple board towards Nic's IR game:confused: I mean I know he did next to nothing, but when there are only a handful or ruck contests in the entire game, not sure what else he could do, and the fact he played pretty limited game time didn't help. I for one am glad he didn't get injured, and couldn't care less how many stats he got.

Yeah look I have to say I agree with you there. I just can't comprehend the constant hatred for him on our board. You'd think we'd understand that a player's going to struggle with OP and recurrant groin injuries given that was McPharlin's early career. Don't get the IR game criticism either, that's not a game designed for a ruckman at all.

So Fyfe to miss 6 - 10 weeks. Bloody IR games, this is why clubs don't want state of origin, which would actually be good to see, but the risks are just to great these days. Sucks for him, and freo, but I guess at least it's getting fixed now, and not happening during the season. I'm no Freo fan, but I don't like to see good players injured, especially in meaningless games. If it were Nic we would all be raging!!

Thing I found interesting was, they said he can't run for about a month after the surgery, surley you could run a bit without it doing any damage??

Bring back state of origin I say. Have it played the Friday night before the grand final. :thumbsu:

That wouldn't work at all.

For a start you're excluding players from the two best teams so a good half dozen or more players are automatically out.

Sides that miss finals routinely send players off for surgery on niggling injuries so they'd be out also

And GF week has it's own allure so the SOO would get lost amongst the hype of the games biggest prize

Also have the perennial SOO problem that there are too many states that play AFL - WA/SA/ Vic don't go into 2 which is the main reason why the league series has thrived - just two states

Its what happened to Judd. If you try to run with an arm in a sling you tend to change your stride to compensate from the lack of momentum from the pinned arm. I was amazed no one told Judd about that after his surgery on his shoulder in '06.

Rotate it around.

One year have WA vs VIC
Next year have VIC vs SA
Year after have SA vs WA
Throw in a combined NSW/QLD/TAS team as well

It's the best we've got.

Players from the GF teams should have to play or risk suspension, wouldn't be fair otherwise. Even better if the game was the curtain raiser for the GF.

I grabbed this shot of Bontempelli last year:
