Now, if we could just get rid of the banners at the start of the game...

Something disturbing about grown men running through crepe paper

And ban cheer squads from holding up banners during games.

"ADAM COONEY FULL OF ENERGY"

There's also one I've seen that says "Brendan McCartney - Our Taskmaster". What the **** is that suppose to mean?

Hate it. Terrible idea. Aussie rules jumpers aren't like soccer or rugby jerseys, they're skinnier around the chest and back. There isn't enough room to have text large enough that it's readable and small enough to fit the longer names in (Hoskin-Elliot, Kolodjashnij). Not having names on the back has never been a problem in the past and it isn't a problem now.

Do what the Wildcats did in the late 80s-early 90s by going with initials, ie. James Crawford = J.C, and Trevor Torrence = T.T. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it's an idea that overcomes the issue of those with a long surname or a **** hyphenated surname.

This name on the jumper is only ego inflating and money driven. It's bad enough that umpires use the player's name to get their attention. If they were to only use their numbers then it would make the umpires look more authoritative when tell players to gtfo. These players get enough of an ego boost with their pay check.

I like the idea for preseason since there is more unknowns playing. Not really fussed one way or the other though.

Personally I don't give a bugger about jumpers any more. Our clubs penchant for dicking around with the design on a season by season basis removed any real attachment and I dislike the "clash strip" mentality intensely. Black or white shorts should be enough! Once sponsor's logos became de riguer, I really lost interest.

However, I do agree with Jarlcorbz about umpires using players names and that whole implied familiarity thing. I love the way rugby union refs handle the game. Players are numbers only, anyone trying to plead his case is imperiously waved away and all discussion via the Captain. They actually give the impression they are in charge, unlike like our matey show ponies.

I honestly can't remember being more content with a summer of cricket than this one, it's been bloody fantastic! I was obviously bitterly disappointed that we lost the one game, but I consoled myself by watching replays of Ballanswine choking in the GF.
Anyway well done to Aussie cricket team, and here's hoping that West Coast can turn their fortunes around as quickly as the cricketers did.

Better get used to the name on the jumpers. It will be trialled in round 1 of this season
