Sides that have failed to live up to the hype this year:
- Sydney
- Richmond
- Carlton*
- North Melbourne*

Anyone else?

* Did not deserve hype in the first place.
What have Richmond done to deserve any hype? They are a very ordinary team who lost to the 9th side in the finals.

Hard to come back from 0-3. Not saying they won't win a few, but finals have to be a secondary thought to just getting in winnable positions from here.

Adelaide can win their next 4

4-3 is then reasonable

And we can lose our next 4.

Then we're even...

Until we in Finals I'm not giving any team shit

Adelaide did hold their own against Sydney, it's just that they kicked 17 behinds. They should played out a close game, not been smashed. It will come back to haunt them IMO.

Anyway, right now they're a long way off where some people thought they'd be but it's not as bad as Richmond etc.

Working on the theory that, as a youngish team with their better players coming into what should be the beginning of the prime of their careers and a settled coach and game plan, they should be better than they were last year - which was good enough to make finals even if they screwed up once they got there. In terms of their development, it should have been the Eagles 2004 - a second year in finals with some real talent on show but not challenging the top 4. Plus it's Richmond, everyone wants them to win just to hear their song.

They'd need to improve significantly at this rate to even make the 8. I have, in no particular order:
Hawthorn
Fremantle
West Coast
Port
Essendon

As the, slightly one-eyed, locks for top 8, with Sydney also definite if they can get going after beating Adelaide. That leaves Richmond fighting with Geelong, Collingwood, Gold Coast (if they can win away from home), Adelaide, Carlton and North to snare the last two spots and most of those teams they're inferior to this year.

Their coach stinks. They are mentally fragile. Their top players are excellent but their weak players are terrible. Richmond won't threaten to win a flag any time soon. Top 4 seems ages away too.

Swap Geelong and west coast and I think you're right

Was expecting Norf to get smashed today but they've settled a bit. Ziebell late out too.

Forgetting all the off field rubbish. Essendon are a quality side.

They're in the mix for a top 4 spot I reckon. Will definitely play finals if off field issues don't intervene

Every year for the last few years Essendon always start very well - look locks for Top 4 and appear to be strong premiership contenders. However, they fall away at the back half of the season - injuries, run out of legs - most likely due to their punishing preseason work they put in.

So don't be too quick to lock them in quite yet!

That being said they do have a quality team - I think their forward line with Daniher is their weak link.
