I think Simmo has done a good job this year, OK we didn't make the finals, by one game for that mind you, but the last 5 games showed a lot of improvement, Simmo didn't get the coaching gig last year until November on pretty much draft week, so his preparation was out the window, he found some players in Lycett, Gov and even Cripps who wasn't getting much in 2013 to playing every game just about, Bennell, Ellis and Brown finally got his time as well,Shuey the one F**king shoe found his place also but add Nic Nats injury riddled year, Matt Rosa, Waters, Lecras, Hurn, S Selwood pout for long periods, and the new game plan that needs time for players to understand you'd be expecting to have a shaky year.

Next year I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, a top 4 finish, we are prime and have a quality list, add M Newman, another year on Sheed and whatever draftees and trades that will add depth and in my opinion and I don't care what anyone else thinks about it, but we will be contending for the premiership next year.:)

There seems to be a considerably blasé attitude towards our club's failure to secure top 8 finish this year, even despite the dream fixture we were given.

I suppose that is symptomatic of our pathetic on field performances in recent years.

The fact is, by failing to guide his team to a finals spot, Simspon has majorly stunted the development of our players by depriving them of finals experience.

I am not suggesting we sack him now, unless of course the more respected and highly regarded McKenna suddenly becomes available.

Rising star nominations are not the be all and end all of development.

How would you rate the progress of McGovern of Lycett this season for example?

McGovern has progressed very well but is this natural talent and opportunity or the result of the development team addressing his weaknesses .

McKenna now your taking the piss, no need to rock the boat so soon, Simmo deserves another year or two, Mckenna would make a good assistant under Simmo though. Would like us to get him back in some coaching role, would add a lot.

From all reports he could be getting the flick tonight as he isn't as good as they all think.

That would have merit, as succession plan of sorts if (as I suspect) it doesn't work out with Simpson.

Your not?

In light of Adelaidde's bold move to replace Sanderson, it begs the question: should we consider doing the same with Simpson?

HAHAHAHAHA oh my god, Simpson could coach rings around McKenna, I bet if you had your way every former Eagle would hold down every single position in the board and coaching staff, get over it, Jesus Christ

So if a player makes it, then it's due to his natural talent coming through but if someone doesn't pan out then it's the failure of our development team to get the best of them?

Seems like you are having a bet each way there.

To further my point, here are the 2008 Rising star nominees
1 Bachar Houli Essendon
2 Josh Hill Western Bulldogs
3 Rhys Palmer Fremantle
4 Kieran Jack Sydney
5 Ben McKinley West Coast
6 Cyril Rioli Hawthorn
7 Austin Wonaeamirri Melbourne
8 Kurt Tippett Adelaide
9 Garrick Ibbotson Fremantle

10 Nathan J. Brown Collingwood
11 Matthew Kreuzer Carlton
12 Trent Cotchin Richmond
13 Jarryd Morton Hawthorn
14 Colin Garland Melbourne
15 Jack Riewoldt Richmond
16 Kyle Reimers Essendon
17 Brad Ebert West Coast
18 Gavin Urquhart North Melbourne
19 Shaun Grigg Carlton
20 Cale Morton Melbourne
21 Bradd Dalziell Brisbane Lions
22 Alipate Carlile Port Adelaide

So from that list only the ones in bold are established best 22 in the side (Houli and Ebert had to change sides to achieve this), whilst the others are either fringe players or delisted. That also includes the eventual winner in Palmer who's career has been a fizzer. Getting a rising star nom is nice, but it doesn't guarantee a player will turn out any good.

Honestly can't believe that someone could be calling for simmo's head already. I think he had a pretty good year all in all.

It's the same person who's being saying it after every game all year.

Won't provide any sort of feedback on anything else other then "sack simpson" each week.

People are stupid for even replying

"Mediocrity, and that's what we've [had] in the last two seasons, for whatever reason, is unacceptable

That from the Adelaide Chairman ^^ Nisbett and Cransberg would NEVER say something like that.
Very true.

And that is one of the key problems with our club at the moment. Acceptance of mediocrity.

Our season was a MASSIVE disappointment, even moreso than the crows. Simpson has looked all at sea at times this season and it is highly doubtful that he is the man to take us to our next flag.

The crows seem poised to swoop on Goodwin, one of their own who is loved, admired and respected at the club. Seemingly, we will have a similar opportunity presented to us with Bluey McKenna possibly departing the Suns.

If the opportunity presents itself, will our club be bold enough to do what Adelaide has done and cut our losses with a suspect coach who is still seen as outsider and has failed to deliver the expected results?

Simmo appeared to find his feet in the 2nd half of the year which is all that can be expected from a 1st yr coach .
Sando while a shock to me failed to win some crunch games late in the season that would put adel into the finals and of course losing to Melb at home sent some shockwaves around Adel.

Assuming we took a zero tolerence policy to mediocrity tomorrow, would there be anyone left at the club to rebuild around?

Naitanui is a mediocre kick.
Hurn has mediocre endurance.
Gaff has mediocre pace.
MacKenzie is also a mediocre kick.
Kennedy is a mediocre contested mark (much better on the lead).

Not saying we couldn't do with a little less mediocrity, but saying we accept mediocrity is lazy analysis as you're always going to have some around the club until they let us genetically modify our recruits.

Ok then the rising star nominee was a mistake on my behalf to throw that in there . My problem is more with the development of players in general at Wce .
I can't see how Blease goes from Melb ressies to being developed by Wce into a regular senior footballer.

I agree with you on that point, I think Blease is beyond saving personally and we would be better off drafting a younger player from the WAFL/SANFL/VFL and trying to turn them into a diamond in the rough.

I think he originally signed for 2 with the option to extend to 3, so I guess him and the club decided he is the right man for the job...for now anyway

Odd decision after a painfully average year. Should've waited until some time next year.

We're going to look like geese if we're 2-8 or something and sharks are circling.

Yeah true, but hopefully it instills a bit of confidence in the playing group that the board are happy with the coach and all systems go, rather than the 2013 circus we had around woosh and whether he would sign or not.

Having weaknesses is normal. Having players with half a dozen flaws in their games and keeping them around is stupid. We'll end up perennial toilers and at best be known for our "culture" or "spirit".
