And, as I predicted, (barring an unexpected GWS big win) we finish this round exactly where we started it.

Thankfully, it seems that the even competition predicted before the season may just be coming to pass after all. The trick for us will be to keep our heads above the fray just enough to maintain the top 4 push, which I do believe is possible.

The heated stuffed up both Freo and Essendon .Both sides had the heat, travel and a 6 day break.
Yeah not really buying that - Swans had to play in pretty tough conditions last Sunday as well, same 6 day break. Sure no travel, but as RTB said in the press conference, the team pulled up fit, a fit 22 was picked, and a fit 22 started. Plus we had Fyfe and Mayne as in's, who hadn't played last week.

Won the second half as well, so we didn't run out of legs, we were outplayed in the second quarter, and failed to capitalise on our chances in the first. Which wouldn't be affected by the heat.

Essendon are just not as good as everyone seems to think they are.

Freo travel either to or from a game every week. Crazy to think the 6 day break plus the heat and travel would not affect them
I read a quote from I think M Malthouse that the WA sides have to be 10% better than the Vic sides

6 days breaks have zero impact on win/loss across hundreds of games. Likewise the 'travel back from Perth' myth, where almost all teams win (or lose) the following week based on the quality of the team. There's not enough evidence on whether heat has an impact.

We were outplayed by Sydney in 2Q after failing to capitalise when we outplayed them in 1Q. Essendon just got ahead of themselves against a spirited side that plays Docklands very well.

That's the thing - we do it every week. So why would this be different? Next week is a 6 day break again. Will we excuse a loss to North?

Yep, it's definitely an excuse, and I'm sure it's one which Lyon (and the players) won't allow.
