I'm a fan of Buckley, always find him interesting. He is a more rounded individual than I gave him credit for in his playing days. He seems a modest and level headed guy. If you had of asked me in their playing days, who would be the understated, patient coach and who would be the self obsessed ego maniac, out of Hird and Buckley, I would have had it around the other way.

However, I think the credit he is getting in the media is a little soon. Chris Scott and Buckley inherited similar lists (Collingwood's probably younger and with all their best players intact) and he was not able to revive that list for a Flag tilt immediately. They have both done a similar job on the development side of things but Collingwood fans would be rightly miffed that the unbeatable side running around in round 22 2011 was pulled apart pretty quickly.

If he goes onto win Flags with this group, all credit to him but he is a fair way off that.

To me, the public perception seems a classic case of almost group projection. Whilst he might have been cocky and full of himself when he started playing (and I'd guess he's not the first nor last 20 year old footballer to be like that), I've never got that impression remotely from hearing him speak. Especially since he became a coach. People might have their issues with Collingwood, and I can absolutely see why, but I can't really find much to dislike about Buckley to be honest.

Buckley was the first player I used to watch off the ball.
Incredible footy brain so early.

He was doing stuff in the 90's that lots of players only started doing 5 years ago.

I.e. If Buckley had the ball on a back flank. Say 1/2 way between the square and the boundary.
And took a gamble by kicking it 60m towards CHF. He used to immediately sprint across to CHB just in case it got turned over. Not after it was turned over.

A guy who knew how to play the percentages.

I was lucky enough to watch Buckley play for Port in the SANFL before he was drafted to Brisbane.

He was head and shoulders above everyone that year.

How's this for a debut season in the SANFL?

- Won the Magarey Medal
- Won the Jack Oatey Medal (BOG in the GF)
- Won Port's B+F
- Played in Port's premiership side

It was rubbish he had to represent the "Allies". He was born in SA.

Yep, always found him really insightful, especially in the year (?) he spent doing commentary. I think people mistook his determination and single-mindedness as arrogance.
That being said, so over the Collingwood-fest in the Herald Sun this week. Back page every day? Even Tyson f*cking Goldsack had a back page story about him.

Blues a sneaky chance tonight I reckon. Starting to run out games a lot better than what they were doing while Collingwood played a team that have major issues playing out a 2nd half so this will be a good game. Yarran is a big loss but then again, so too is Toovey for Collingwood.
Nah Pies by at least 6 goals.

I actually like Carlton's chances tonight- don't know why. I just had a gut feeling that things might turn their way....

yeh I went with Collingwood but it should be a pretty close affair throughout. Warnock will dominate Grundy as well
After the AFL world talking as if Grundy was the second coming of Jesus Christ, there has been bugger all talk about him this season.
I feel sorry for the kid getting smashed every week with bugger all ruck support.
