A few years ago I hated St Kilda - because of Lyon, Milne and various other unsavoury characters at their club, but can help now but feel sorry for them. especially guys like Montagna and Riewoldt.

Good to see all the Hawks members have come out in force for the footy today :D

Probably a bit harsh... I'm sure if they were allowed to take their pet members they would get a good crowd!
Weren't they having a "Bring a friend day" today? Judging by the crowd, not many Hawks fans have friends. :p

People knock Gazza for moving.
But there are many players that make terrible decisions (gazza's wasn't)

If Dawes has an ordinary year this year he might get spat out of the system.
He'd probably be a key at Collingwood right now and earning the same money.
Grass is greener?

That sounds feasible in theory, but with only hogan and unproven resting ruckman as KPF and question marks hanging over watts. I think Dawes will still be around next year, regardless of his performances for the rest of this year.

Melbourne have looked markedly better with Dawes in the team, he has been able to provide them with a credible target to provide better structure.

Just flicked on the radio to hear Melbourne up 44-8 against Adelaide. Dees- where did this come from?

Crows' list looks to be in a lot of trouble ATM. They are light years off from the side who almost made a Grand Final only 18 months ago.

Think Collingwood were happy to move him on TBH - they wanted someone who could play as a resting ruck and Dawes couldn't. He's actually been really good for Melbourne when he's managed to get out on the park, way more mobile across half forward than I would have thought possible.

That getting so close to the GF hurt them long term I think... They had a soft soft draw that year... And then granted played well in September.. But they weren't really as close as they seemed. (Hawks should have smashed them that prelim but kicked shockingly)

Then Tippett left and the worst possible thing happened with Tex going down as well

Oh my, just looked at the Hawks v Saints game summary and see what you're talking about. 32,000 was the crowd. That's really poor:thumbsdown:

You'd imagine we'd come close to double that tomorrow?
Just another reason why Hawthorn aren't the 'big club' their supporters claim. Delusions of grandeur if you ask me. A top-of-the-table Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon, or Carlton wouldn't draw that sort of crowd at the MCG on Saturday arvo vs. a fellow Victorian club, regardless of weather conditions. They won't continue pulling 60/70/80k crowds against us once they drop down the ladder.

Won't get anywhere near double that tomorrow with the form Richmond are in. Expecting 50,000 at the most, more realistically 40-45,000.

To put things in perspective, back in Round 20, 2004, we played Freo at KP in what was one of the coldest and wettest days in history, and we still managed to drag 15,000 through the gates. Bear in mind too that back then the Reg Hickey Stand on the Moorabool Street wing was under construction, and about half the ground isn't under cover, let alone the fact we were playing an interstate side.

For a team playing a fellow Victorian side at a ground surrounded by grandstands to only draw 32,000 when they have 60,000+ members is a disgrace.

TBH I love Hawthorn smashing sides like this because it's utterly meaningless, yet the footy media will lap it up.

Don't get me wrong, I respect them, they are a super side and if we are to win the flag we will have to go through them. But watching them be the best offensive side and blow bottom sides away with ball movement and chains of uncontested kicking, it's clear they won't be able to do that against the good defences like Geelong and Freo (if they regain form) and Port and Collingwood, as we saw when we played the Hawks two weeks ago.

So other than ladder position and getting them top 2, these sort of wins tell us nothing about whether they will succeed in September, yet the media will lap it up and install them as raging favourites and we will in all likelihood go under the radar in terms of coverage, which I would be very happy with.

Good post PO. That was one of the reasons the Saints had it over us in parts in 09. Simply, they were the only team to bring something resembling pressure to games against. Luckily we were good enough to adapt. Fingers crossed the Hawks aren't.
