It's called "pressure" Daz.
When you are a team like Hawthorn that is drilled on Lazer like precision disposal, even in pressure moments, and the opposition struggles it can look like "Luck" is just going your way.
But it is not Luck.
Nowhere did I say Hawks are playing badly. Hawks are killing them by a country mile. Swans, as a pressure footy team, are nowhere to be seen.
If Hawks win this they have earned it. The Swans are laying an egg and playing to Hawks strengths. And Hawks great play is making it hard for them.

We seem to be learning that Hodge, Mitchell and Hale keep improving despite being of the same age as Kelly and Bartel. Burgoyne gets faster as he gets older, and Roughead was a magic selection in the 2004 draft. The Hawks just win, they have an uncanny ability to always be there to mop up, and their ability to get a hand in, a deflection, a smother, a flibble or any sort of way to intercept the oppositions forays is astounding. But it happens so regularly it's obviously no fluke.

And they lose Franklin to their direct opponent today and miss not a beat at all. The Hawks finals record is frustratingly excellent, and so they are on their way to a 12th flag. Eleven of those in my lifetime, and 10 of those i've been old enough to remember. They are what Collingwood would have been to a person my age in the late 1930's. They are just a great side. Hurts to say, but the proof is in the pudding.

Agreed. As deplorable have Sydney have been, there's nothing "lucky" about what Hawthorn are doing.

It seems being able to pass cleanly to your team mates by foot and hand is rather useful. Gotta give them that.

It's bizarre really. Hodge and Burgoyne were all but finished 3 years ago.

We can make all the excuses we want, the fact is right now they are a better team by a long, long way. Ideally we might be able to learn something from them. Doubt it though.

Dead right. The Hawks are drilled on precision kicking/disposal. Never give the ball up at any time.
We did not have to play that game in our glory days because we were the best at "contested footy" with our strong bodied players. That is not the case any more.

Gee Hawthorn are playing dirty, even more than usual. Sydney's game plan of handballing it back even after a marking, is taking away there best advantage, they should be kicking it long all day, it would force hawthorn to drop their press.
How can they ever play dirty "more than usual"?

hawks last three years have been as good as our 2007-2009. their 2008 and our 2011 were kind of separate to the 3 years runs we each had with back to back GFs. the difference between our 07/08/09 and 2011 GF teams is huge, just like their 2008 and 2012/13/14 teams is very different.

next year will be the test, can they go on and get to a 4th GF in a row? if they do, their run will have clearly been better than ours.

No denying Hawks have been very good-run hard, worked hard, tough at the ball and the man. And no doubt Swans have been poor. e.g. first quarter tackle count-I had noticed Swans players just watching as Hawks waltzed by -no desperation -weaker than a H&A then they put the tally up-23-7. Seriously in a GF? Ah well.

Roughead as well, has any player ever come back from an injury like an achilles (which is like a knee or a broken leg in terms of length of rehab) as well as he? He's gained pace, evasion and just seems to be everything.

We need to find midfield power, as TurboCat has said, it's been very costly for us to have so little output of some of our recent draftees....Having a bloke be on the list for three years with no games like Hamling is not really tenable in today's footy. I am hoping the Swans show some heart in the 2nd half, but so far it looks like the Hawks are pretty much home.

All im seeing is what a lot of us has been saying the tradedraft thread. We (Cats) need midfield power, power that has run , power that has mongrel. You can have Noddy's and Franklins in the forwardline let alone Cola , but if the mid gets opened the the cola gos flat

Very good Turbo.:D

I agree, but I think that you have forgotten to mention the word "precision". The Hawks mids are precise with their disposal. Take Mitchell for instance. He may be only a half a yard faster then GHS but he just never wastes the ball and sets players up beautifully. His vision and disposal by hand and foot reminds me of Greg Williams.

What a woeful effort by the Swans so far. It is going to be a looooong off season. :(

Longmire needs to get Buddy into the game, he is one of the few Swans players that look like they aren't overwhelmed by the situation.

Hawthorn are just too good.
