unfortunately boom recruit Shaydon Bloomfield has ruptured his ACL and will require a reconstruction. Disappointing for the bloke who is shattered. Knowing Donny, he will get back and run a muck next year for all too see! Interesting to see if the club stands by him.

Im sure Fieldsy [ the football manager] would have it all under control. Very disappointing for the kid? is he married? working up here yet?

Yea Mate he has a partner and a 3 Year old Son. He was due to start work next week but obviously won't be able to do anything now. I guess the only positive which can come from this is he is happy in Queensland and will more then likely be ready to go by April!

Hi All just reading about Rob Dickfos and his questioning of if he should coach Sandgate or not, this time last year Rob was doing an amazing job with a young and talented group. this year i would say he has challenged the group to raise the bar train harder and implement more discipline in preperation etc. As an outsider i would say the majority have followed but a couple of ex junior "stars" have rebelled and are sitting in the 2nds getting fatter by the week. if you dont like the level move but dont drag your club backwards. Rob is a very well respected person in QAFL and some of these young blokes should follow his lead!!!!

Well said, couldn't agree more

Watch this space regarding the Hawks. Have heard rumours going around the Rob Dickfos will step down as soon as tomorrow.

Couldn't agree more Speedy, hopefully the players stand strong for what he has done for them in creating a very strong culture.

Very unfortunate if so. Has a great reputation in Queensland footy. I sure hope its not a few players wrapped in cotton wool that are the reason for this.

AFLQ website confirms he resigned. It the rumours are true that some younger "stars" wouldn't put in the effort, that's crazy. Several of those youngsters thought themselves AFL draft contenders a couple of years ago and maybe still do- clearly they're dreaming. Bad news for Sandgate- maybe have to drop out of QAFL in 2015.

And maybe a few white ants as well.. :(
White ants?! Disappointing. Rob is hard task master, very tough at times, but consistent.
1. Set the culture
2. Set the standards
3. Set the win/loss ratio
At this level he's a great fit for coach... Whatever took place to produce this situation surely is more than a coach or few players issue...

Not sure you know what white anting is mate?? Might have misconstrued that one.. ??

Yeah and as a coach you don't need blokes white anting you - end of year to vent your spleen imo (if asked) but 1st and foremost look at your own performances before moaning about the coach. If you are over weight then that is the first area you address... If indeed this is one of the reasons. Would it be money ie not getting paid?

Haha yeah mate got a grasp on the term used, my question mark was with the 'who' not the 'what'. Regardless though it's happened,
any news on where to for now for Sandgate?

It is fact that Rob had a phone call from a board member on Tuesday after the initial article on the AFLQ website. It was basically taken as a resignation which was not the case. He was letting people know he was looking within himself to see how the boys could improve their performance from the 2 disappointing weeks. It was indicated to him there was no confidence in him at board level (not all members) and that they had been approached by parents of senior players complaining about him abusing players. The board then approached the current assistant coaches to ask them to lead the teams this week as they already have a coach lined up to take over as of next weekend against Morningside. For what it's worth it was a very heated discussion and all is still up in the air about tomorrow. I believe at this stage the only coach who is 100% on board is the U18 coach. IMO it is the board of this club who should be punted. My mail is they weren't happy with Rob getting the job but it was not their decision to make. Their candidate is I'm told some sort of legend though I have never heard of him.

I can't wait to see what comments the "coach" makes to the AFLQ reporter after this week.

"Bomber" isn't the person you are alluding to are you Tiges?? Club legend, still coaching etc. Not a great scenario when the board start getting involved in the appointment of coaches mid season. Parents of senior players?? Maybe Rob might think he is coaching U18's??

To my mind there is a line bn being abusive / hyper critical and telling the players so and constructive criticism that a good young player will take on board and improve from. If a kid is 10kg overweight at 19yrs of age he deserves a truckload of criticism imo. Fitness is something you can control. Surely a better scenario would be for a person involved in the football area to go to Rob and just tell him that there had been some comments made, maybe best to address with individual players and to tone it down. No one is perfect in their coaching and sometimes you don't realise the effect you are having on individuals. Just seems silly for all this to happen when the side has been reasonably competitive.

Jeez the Sandgate board have alot to answer for..have put the assistant coaches in a awful situation..players,they would be talking about would be a couple that have been through state programs in the past..lazy would be an understatement in regards to them..
And the parents not happy..it's a senior football club! Parent involvement in this way gives me the shakes!! I agree with above, pull dickfos aside and together let's look at a different way to approach this etc etc

Parent involvement at any level of senior football is completely unwarranted and far too prevalent in this state

Wouldn't say just Qld TT - many a story of parents getting involved at all levels (incl AFL level) across Aust. Try David Hale for one...

Lets not pretend footy is perfect in Vic, SA etc. In fact in many respects it is significantly worse.

Could also a case that some young players don't like to be told how it is or a bit precious that they are bigger& better than they really are. Maybe the feeling of being above the law, may not be the case but just a possibility.

Dogwarna,

I am not sure if your mail is quite correct regarding the board proposed changes - I overheard a conversation yesterday regarding the current Sandgate coaching position - where a former Hawk junior and now a Hornet mentioned to a couple of interested parties that the Sandgate senior players along with the assistant coaches told the Board that - they would do the coaching for the remainder of the year - this apparently was after they were told that they (the Board) were to announce a new senior coach this week?????

When the board loses control of any organization, but in this case a very old and proud footy club then they and therefore the club itself are in big trouble - IMO if the current senior players, that are now supposed too be taking the club forward had got off their lazy fat ar-es and tried a bit harder under Rob (who would have forgotten more about QAFL footy than these sooks will ever be able to learn who also has been proven not only a great footy coach but a better human being) for their team and their hard fought great culture, they would be currently playing for a berth in the QAFL finals and not lining up for the wooden spoon, If they don't all take a deep breath and smell the roses, they might well be another great northern footy club that goes down the gurgler due to ego's and not ethos.

The sooner the board take control and appoints a senior coach the better and if the senior players don't like it let them form another club were they can run rough shot over all and sundry - Give the U/18's a go in the Seniors they will probably give a better sighting than the overrated and underachieving senior side.
