What a shame.

The board should have backed Rob Dickfos in and told the sooks to take a hike. Some short term pain for some long term gain, you can't run an organisation like they are at the moment.

Whats in the water up there? Zillmere and Sandgate, great clubs with great people - just can't keep it together.

Except of course if there was a mountain of opinion against him QAFL - can't replace 20 blokes at years end. All just speculation but whatever the change, I saw a couple of new faces in their team this week, one was named in the best but they still got belted.

Well said billy..i really had no mail more just reading between the lines and also knowing of a few lads at the hawks..hopefully all sorted and they can make, something of the rest of the season
The board had no intention of using the current assistants until the end of the season. It was only when it looked as they're maybe a walk out of all in sundry that the President back peddled. If truth be known the President didn't want Rob in the first place but a sub committee made the decision. It is known fact that the President doesn't rate Rob. Also, when you have some so called guns getting on the p*ss every Friday night, showing no respect for the values that Rob is trying to instil, it is no surprise it came to a head. The sad thing is both Jackson & Corbin will not be playing out the year.

More than likely the result would have been the same, but it appeared some just laid down after half time.

Why did Sandgate nominate for the QAFL? Maybe a straight swap at the end of the year, Sandgate for Mayne?

Yeah noticed that. Disappointing for the boys and club. Club politics hey! I imagine Rob polarises opinion but there isn't that much left of the year and unlike AFL clubs you aren't exactly building for the following year at this level, just trying to do your best each week. Once again, can't believe that something couldn't have been sorted that at worst got them thru to the EOY. Sounds very much like a club that over anticipated what their playing group was going to produce at years beginning and had a playing group that didn't really want to be playing at that level. Not the worst thing in the world, just need to have 80% of your playing group on board and esp your top end players.

Springwood might have something to say about that. Reckon Noosa would be a show as well based on finances and playing personnel combined. Whether they would want to I'm not sure.

Yeah would make sense as far as having a footprint across the SE corner but I think the AFLQ have said qualification will be based strictly on the 7 pillars they have put down. They are trying to create a quality 2nd tier comp for Qld footy and don't want sides going broke or being uncompetitive. If $$ are an issue then you stay in the conferences.

smy1305,

I am hearing some very good rumors for the Northern end of the Sunny Coast around the traps, if these are true and not just a wishful whispering dream that I think I keep having - Noosa will be a very handy side again over the next few years, with young Buttain hopefully staying put and the core of the Tigers current senior players hanging around, along with some handy high profile players moving North and looking for a new home, maybe a Sunny Coast QAFL side might not be a dream but a reality in the not too distant future.

The QAFL or even the NEAFL IMO, needs a presence in "Gods Country" always has - The Gold Coast has a few , Sunny Coast has none WTF - I don't mean that in a Christian sense either, probably a long way distant of that, but hey take it however you want, Noosa again IMO is as close as you can get that "Gods Country" place. We all know that the players are there in the region and if the trigger got pulled a lot more would come home and have a crack and I am sure the sponsorship would be their as well, to reach the top of the mountain they just need a vehicle to be able to drive who knows, with the right vehicle the sky could be the limit. It might take a little time, but IMO it would work and work well.

Yeah, know what you mean by Gods Country - 20 yrs ago when i moved here my father-in-law to be kept on referring to the place as this!! And probably with good reason too, esp with weather like we are having right now.

Maroochydore is demographicly the logical place for a SC team + the facility BUT Noosa is the financial power up this way, very well organised club, great old boys network, magnificent clubhouse, extremely solid playing group but the negative is that it relies (too) heavily on employment in the building industry which is average right now. Saying this they have put together a very good side this year without the town kicking arse too greatly so it can be done. Quite a few of their top end players though will not play in a QAFL comp like the Dukes, Cubby, maybe even Tromphy + a few others? It is a step up and they wouldn't want to go in just to make up numbers.
To play there would require many guys to travel 80km round trip from Maroochy / Caloundra. They also are struggling big time with their 18's (which is one of the pillars). Don't get me wrong, it makes perfect sense to have a team up this way and our young fellas coming thru would benefit big time from it. Noosa didn't apply for the QAFL this year, realised their playing stocks might have been down for a QAFL comp and wanted to get their ducks in order from what i've been told. Have raised an enormous amount of $$ with their presidents lunches and other functions so far. A very very good football club.

Certainly I think a few blokes from say around the Caboolture region would be far better off heading north than going south to play. Is a 40min drive to maroochydore which would be the same to Brisbane with traffic!

Rob, Corbs and Jacko are always welcome back at Redcliffe ;)

AFLQ know SPringwood are good enough for QAFL, and so do Springwood.

That isn't why they are playing in the conferences, its a financial thing.

I'd have thought Maroochydoore are the ideal candidate for a decent spread across the SEQ corner, but Mayne are probably the best candidate for resources etc and a bit of tradition never hurt either!

Well a financial thing is pretty important QAFL if you are going to go up a level - it requires a fair bit more finance to compete! I think you would need to be able to show a history of good standing with the league, money in the bank and a business plan that shows how you can sustain this for the next 5 years, not just 1 year where a good bloke employs half the side or a financial benefactor throws in a considerable amount for 12mths. None of the leagues are perfect right now but they aren't too bad either imo.

Big game tomorrow between palmy and Labrador be interesting to see how they line up on each other the ins and outs

As a Panthers supporter, I have no knowledge of what's gone on at Sandgate. But from comments being made round the ground today from people I know, have to feel a bit for the players out there against the Panthers. Player moral very very low. Coaches and players gone, injuries, limited numbers of players at training more than occasionally, and apparently some with less than professional approach to games on Fri nights. Hope the committed guys can stick together through the remainder of the season, and the powers that be at the club show them some support.

Haven't the hawks been taking juniors off other clubs in the area for years??? Prob a bit of karma smacking them in the face!

You would think Sandgate might get dropped down a div next year??

Great win by Palm Beach yesterday setting up for a cracking game against morningside next week!
