"It's not that Brock is in a position that he's going to be chopped from the list.

"I want to see where he is.

"There was a hint during the year to me from him that he said he's finding it pretty tough."

Back in May McLean reflected candidly on where his career was positioned, telling AFL.com.au he was a 'year-by-year prospect' and explaining how he'd made changes to make himself a happier footballer.
Sounds like Mick isn't convinced Brock wants to play on next year.

Actually burst out laughing when the final siren sounded today. Summed up our year really. Some really positive signs over the last month apart from the flogging against port. Something has happened internally that has seen a massive attitude shift. Still, we drop the intensity in patches that cost us dearly. If we can fix that and play four quarters exactly the same as our first today, we would win a lot more than we would lose. Sam Rowe, what a brilliant year he had. Docherty will only get better. Daisy started to get some fitness back and that showed in his last few games. Everitt was a fantastic pick up and fits in nicely. Sheehan is my new favourite. That kid will be something special. Can't wait to see him after a full pre season. Menzel will be even better

"5 into 3 ain't gonna fit" - Mick mentioning Watson, Henderson and krooz.

so reading between the lines, waite and casboult aren't priority signings? :(

Our defence is looking our the most settled it's been in many years.

Not sure how it'll actually line up once everyone is fit. I'm loving Tuohy and Sheehans understanding and chemistry together. Plus it releases Walker back forward. Buckley coming back only releases Yarran into the midfield.

Talls: Jamison, Rowe and White

Med-Small: Sheehan, Tuohy, Docherty and Buckley

The best part is 'Med-Small' defenders are all quick, good decision makers and good disposals.

There can be only 1
If Watto can add some extra pace and a second gear then he could well be a pretty good forward. He would have taken a lot of confidence out of today. It will be good for him entering into the pre-season knowing that he has performed at AFL level.
imo they will have seen enough of him as a forward recently to reconfigure his upcoming preseason to that of a Forward.
Last preseason he would have been training as a backman.

Not sure I would use the word SETTLED Cringle, when we have Walker, Yarran, Simpson, Thomas and Everitt
to be included in the structures/rotations. We do have options aplenty, when we can include Hendo and Watto
as options as well.

Forgot Simpson.

Yarran and Thomas I was under the impression will play more midfield. Would be great additions due to their outside run.

Everitt plays wherever.

And Mick said Walker can play forward again.

If he want's out, f*** him off. Does sweet f a half the year anyway. Doesn't bleed.

If Watto kicks a 100 next year, do we really need him anyway.

Time to clear house. Good luck to Jarrad - love him but if I was him I'd probably take the 2 years with Norf.

Growing up watching League teams the backline was always " O'Connell, Southby, Waite" - bit hard to send Jack O'Connell but if Geoffrey Southby paid Jarrad a visit and just reminded him of a few things .......???

Just a shame not all of them are great defenders.

I took it another way. Because he said it's a good problem to have. Meaning we'll have 5 forwards to pick from but only 3 can play.
Pretty sure that's exactly what he meant.

But I'd still rather we trade Casboult if it means we can receive something good. I'd rather not let him sit in the VFL if Watson, Henderson, Kruezer and a new recruit end up overtaking him.

Waite doesn't worry me tbh. He doesn't have that much left in him. If he plays for Carlton the bonus. If he doesn't play to standard then we know MM has no problem throwing him in the twos.

Who isn't?

Buckley is an unknown.

Docherty is good.

Sheehan is pretty good.

Tuohy gets the best small forward every game so he gets harshly scrutinized.
I was trying not to single Tuohy out and criticise him :p

Yes he does get the best small forward, but his 2014 was nothing close to his 2013.

Waite basically had a purple patch of a month of footy in an otherwise disappointing year after, lets face it, a disappointing couple of years before it.

I thought they were mad giving him 3 years last time and I think that proved correct. Even if it is a coincidence that he fired up when his career was on the line and he could catch the eye of rival clubs in an era when tall forwards are worth silly money I still think it was too little too late.

Offer him a year with clauses. Otherwise let him go.

Casboult too if he is holding us to ransom. If he can get us into a decent trade then do it.

Was not that Hendo & Kreuz had not played

Even more fitting that his best game was vs North after meeting with them previously. Needed that application every week for the Blues, Jarrad.

Mid year the experts were saying we needed to let him go he was that poor.

With Micks comments of 5 not going into 3 he mentioned Kruezer. I understand if Kruezer takes time next year coming back into the team and plays forward for the first 2 months but I'd hope he ends up as 1st ruck again.

Ruck - Kruezer
CHF - Waite/Jaksch
FF - Henderson
3rd Tall - Watson/Casboult

We have a shortage of talls.
Not so long ago I would have argued strongly that we need to retain Waite and Casboult.
Now:
Waite's best is comparable to any tall in the comp.,......but...... he is not worth the risk of signing for
2 years unconditionally on significant coin.
Casboult is not a $500,0000 player, would be irresponsible to give it to him regardless of needing talls.

BUT

We currently need minimum 2 extra talls. If they depart need to find 4 or 5......big ask, particularly
when a couple of other clubs need talls as much as us. Can see our rookie list being topped up with
speculative/developing talls.

At the same time need top end midfield talent, so can't sell the farm. Genuinely fascinated about
this off season.
