Wish I could agree with you about Bootsma but I can't. He has been getting rag-dolled by all of the big forwards of the comp since he debuted as a skinny young guy and his confidence has not recovered. He looks like a deer in the headlights too often whilst also being asked to play on opposition fellas just too big for him.

He did ask to be traded last year but the club had no takers, if he doesn't want to be there then its unfair on him and the club for him to stay.

Why? For desk top recruiters he was slow undersized KPF. Was a man playing against boys. There was a reason he was a slider. On out put he was a late first rounder, on potential a 3rd rounder.

We need a medium marking forward. Haven't had one of those since Simon Wiggins. Haven't had a talented one since Brad Pearce.

Menz may turn out to be something but Membrey can play. Now. He kicked 47 goals in the Sydney reserves last year.

Membrey got drafted where Hourigan didn't - meaning although he has limitations, they're fixable.

Is it uncommon for a teenager to be outmuscled?

Wasn't destroyed by Liam Jones when he moved onto him and killed nearly every ball kicked to him.
  • Bootsma and his GF are expecting a child.
  • They're from WA.
  • Bootsma asks to be traded to be WA.
  • We didn't get a fair trade for a contracted player.
Better than your assumption.

Menzel >>>>>> Membrey

Wouldn't be wanting him as a KPF, definitely too short for that position. He is a solid competitor and you are right, he was a man playing against boys due to his size. The last person I can think of like that was Shannon Hurn.
Hurn is a half back flanker who can kick like Watson. Don't know how you can compare him to Membrey.

And Hurn can run. Not sure there is a place for an undersized player who is slow. Brad Fishers pace cost him his career despite his marking skill.

NEAFL would be the worst secondary comp in the country so I wouldn't put too much weight on performances there.

BFD !!!!

Neither of the WA clubs wanted him, that is the concern and it should be for us too.

If he turns out to be a sensational player for us then great, I'll eat some humble pie but I'm pretty confident it isn't going to happen.

Think I heard somewhere we have the 4th oldest list in the league.

Does anyone know if this is true?

The Eagles were interested, but wanted to steal him from us. We didn't have to trade him, so we didn't.

Fisher lost pace and agility due to injuries. He was good enough to play 99 games.

A bit early to be writing Membrey off as the next Ben McKinley isn't it? hasn't even debuted yet. Nick Stevens has big wraps on the kid.

A medium forward who's a good mark and kick for goal sounds like a valuable addition. If not Membrey, who would you suggest we acquire on the cheap?

We've already got one, his name is Luke Reynolds.

They don't go cheap. Only ones available in recent years either cost 1 million dollars or were complete hacks e.g Lynch.

we could have taken Kristian Jaksch in the draft if we really wanted one... clearly the club is not too worried. Thankfully not worried enough to speculate on Gumbitown

But who would take Jaksch over Menzel? No matter how desperate we are for talls, we would've kicked ourselves had we not got Menz.

Jack Darling, Shane Kerstan would be more appropriate comparisons.

Undersized KPF who were man childs in the U18

We said the same thing about passing on
  • Tyrone Vickery (pick 8), Phil Davis (pick 10) for Chris Yarran.
  • Daniel Talia (pick 13) for Kane Lucas.
  • Cameron McCarthy (pick 14) for Patrick Cripps.
There's a pattern - we take a 'small' over a KPP chosen soon afterwards.

Yup... lets blow a first or second round pick on a tall that might take several years to fully develop... over someone that should be ready to go within a couple of years. Yup... I can see the supporters really standing for that.

Other than Talia, I'm not kicking myself over not getting any of those KPs.

Yarran took 3 years to cement a spot in the 'best 22'. Lucas is still on the periphery.

Meanwhile Davis is co-captain and Talia is a cornerstone of his team's defence.

At Carlton, enormous expectation unfairly mounts on Watson one of only 2 genuine KPP under 24 (plus Giles), while c-grade forwards Casboult and Rowe play VFL.
