LOL.

This discussion is on par with The Sheik opining that Temay wasn't tall enough.
Feel free to show where I have written that, he's a mid/flanker, he doesn't need to be 9ft 7in ............ stop being a twat for the sake of it !!

Besides, Temay is at high risk of being booted at the end of the season so I fail to understand why you are bringing him up.

We HAVE to try and get Tomlinson!
Thing is, we want about 5-6 of the GWS lads (eg, Shiel, Boyd) and there is no way known we can snaffle all of them. Our admins need to work out who the real priority is and go hard at that individual deal.

This may be skewed by what deals (if any) we were to do with other clubs too.

Yeh, but if I had to pick 1 I'd pick Tomlinson :p

For price/value
Tomlinson 1 Great, but not too expensive
Shiel 2 Great, not too expensive
Jaksch 3 Prospect and cheap
O'Rourke 4 Has the talent, may be expensive
Buntine 5 Question marks, kinda cheap, maybe, mayne expensive, hard to tell
Boyd 6 Gun, freak, but would cost the world
Others 7 Treloar, Cameron etc, guns, freaks, stars but would cost the world and mars as well

I'd go

1. Tomlinson - Athletic CHF
2. Shiel - Powerful inside mid with skill
3. Jaksch - KPP and has shown far less then the two above
4. O'Rourke - Tall inside midfielder with skill, injury prone thus far in his career

Day light

5. Buntine - Third tall with good leadership qualities

O'Rouke and Jaksch are uncontracted which makes them far easier to grab then the likes of Tomlinson's and Shiel.

Personally I would love getting Tomlinson and Shiel. If we can't get Shiel then Tomlinson and a uncontracted O'Rourke would be awesome as well.

Both are uncontracted which gives us the chance to get them cheap but they would have to nominate Carlton as their preferred destination.

Seeing as Everitt is 194cm & Tomlinson is 193cm, feel free to make that argument stick !!
Tomlinson is a CHF in the same mould as Nick Riewoldt.

Everitt is a utility who can play on the flanks and he lacks the overhead marking ability or strength to play as a true KPP. Everitt is about as close to a KPP as Cripps.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should be looking to obtain a KPP from GWS (Jaksch) or another list for our 2nd round pick - and use our first rounder to bank the best talent available, regardless of position.

If we don't somehow acquire a KPP during the trade period, we may be too reliant on the height or position of a prospect causing us to overlook a potentially more complete player.

Getting Jaksch (or another tall) in the trade period, leaves the possibility of getting Petracca/Brayshaw with our first pick - as most of the genuine gun talls (Durdin, Wright, McCartin, Goddard) will be gone before our selection.

Tomlinson would rightly cost us our first round selection.

Given he has been developed for two years in an AFL environment already, and is capable of playing a number of positions (including on the wing), I would probably take that.

GWS want early draft picks and young KPD's. We should aim for Tomlinson and O'Rourke IMO.

Pick 3/4 and Watson for Tom and O'Rourke.

I would do that deal ... but;

a) I think we will have a selection around Pick #5/6

b) I can't see them playing ball for Tomlinson and O'Rourke.

They've already worked that out. How could they not?

Patton may be the most likely tall as he's largely a one position player, has had the knee injury, yet GWS would know they'd still get a first rounder for him. Boyd would only be considered if he has told GWS that he'd want out next year.

I'd still keep an eye out for Shiel although his price is getting larger by the week.

If we can get O'Rourke to nominate then us then it shouldn't be a issue. Most teams are only going to offer a 2nd rounder and ours will be more valuable then most.

I can see losing to the Giants this week and we match up horribly with 9/10's of the teams we are coming up against.

The reason I say let's get the spine right is because we have struggled year on year to get it right and it is the one area that is holding us back from being able to genuinely challenge the top end of the ladder.
This is quite simply incorrect.

To get to where we need to be, we need to see marked improvement across the park. Yes, quite clearly our spine is one such area. However, it is not the one area.

If we are sucked into that line of thinking we may well find ourselves heading down the Essendon path of a few years back. They had plenty of talls but not much by way of quality through the middle of the ground.

You could have the best book ends in the business but it counts for nothing if you don't have the cattle to get the ball to them. Even the very best would look completely ineffective in a dysfunctional system.

Clearly that's not a path we want to go down.

List management is a balance. You may argue we've neglected the spine but the answer is not to go in the complete opposite direction and not look to bolstering our stocks elsewhere on the park.
