Gibbs, Carrazzo, Mclean, Curnow, Graham, [Robinson]. A lot of one paced midfielders and we can't fit them all in the side. Robinson has strings to his bow so he plays, Gibbs is probably our best player and is extremely damaging with the ball. Of the other four, I don't think we can carry more than 2. Mclean should be last in the pecking order for mine, while Curnow plays first. Toss up between Graham and Carrazzo but Carrazzo's gonna wanna be far more damaging than he was on Friday if he's to stay in the side.
I agree but Geelong did have Ling selwood Kelly and Bartel. The only difference is quality and they are pretty flexible type of players.

I'd have Curnow and Carrazzo playing. I can't see us playing finals for a few years so unfortunately BRock should be let go even though he is probably best 22. Not to sure what I think of graham yet. Doesn't really seem to have any tricks but can doubt find the ball. From the little I've seen of him he just looks like another Brock

personal reasons. not going to elaborate but it affected his mindset.

No worries, was more interested in if it caused him to miss out on games/training sessions. I understand where you are coming from with the Geelong/Hawthorn model of holding onto guys and letting them develop for a while in the VFL, but wouldn't you say it is more related to it being far harder to crack a game in those sides? I'm not necessarily saying getting rid of Temay is the right call, but at this stage, not being able to get a game in a side like ours isn't a great sign at all.

you could be right. but at the same time, some guys just take longer to come on. bucks didn't do much in his first two years. simmo didn't.

I just think we are too quick to offload some kids without allowing them time to develop. in temay's case he has definitely improved this year, so it's not like he's regressing like Mitchell & McCarthy did last year.

there are some older plodders that need to go before temay does IMO. but I might be wrong.

You have to be prepared to move with what's required.

Geelong told us that they develop from within.......next minute........in comes Caddy, Rivers & MacIntosh.
Holding onto players is a good principle.................Hanging onto the right ones though is the better one.

Once again, if we can bring in three best 22 players and freshen up around the edges with kids and needs like last year, we would have done very well.

Just say worst comes to worst and we slide to 15-18th. And we get pick 1-4. Is there any chance we can get out greedy little mits on Tom Boyd?

The pick alone won't get us Boyd, we'll have to package some other player or give a couple of pick upgrades.

Think we would have to include either Yarran or Menzel which we won't be doing.

It might be enough to bring in a double act like Tomlinson and Shiel if we included a player like Garlett or Robinson and a swap of our 2nd pick with their 3rd.

Hard to know what we will do but I still hope if we did give up a pick as low as 4 to bring in a player that we would somehow find a way to get a pick in the top 12.

Tomlinson and Shiel for pick 4 and Jeffy?

Where do I sign up?

We'd need to throw in extras, remember their asking price last year was something along the line of Kreuz + Yaz. I'm not sure trading for a KPP will be worthwhile, barring some sort of fire sale, given what we'd need to give up to land one. Savvy drafting and development will be more beneficial long term.

Why not re:McInnes? He has been named in the VFL bests a number of times in recent weeks.

Giving up on players too quickly is exactly why we struggle to develop our own.
Spot on etsal. McInnes's form has been on an upward curve for the last month. I would suggest he is almost back to where he was at when playing VFL in 2012, prior to making his AFL debut. Unfortunately for Andy Mac, White's good form in the seniors will keep Andy in the VFL for the foreseeable future.

Agreed. I really like how MM develops his lists. Graham, cripps, Holman, Giles, temay, Watson and Andy Mac are learning how to play in the twos. Some will develop and go on to play AFL, others will be cut. Big bodied 'goers' like McLean, Rowe and White will hold the fort in the mean time. Patience is the key..

Exactly. This is what the better development clubs do. They given their kids time to find their feet in the 2s and don't throw them to the wolves to ruin their confidence. Mick said it a couple of weeks ago - you can do irreparable damage if you play kids too early (see Watts @ Melbourne for years).

Andy Mac whilst not young/immature for senior footy, has obviously struggled to regain his confidence post-knee. It seems he is finally finding it again. Mick was a big fan for Andy Mac before he made his return last year, although he had some poor games, I don't think Mick has written him off.

I'd much rather cut some of the guys we know have no more improvement left in them than some developing kids who just need time to find their feet.

I don't understand why some people believe it's a forgone conclusion Temay is gone come years end. He has improved significantly this year. It's his second year. He was always touted as a long-term prospect - which Rogers & McKay both said when he was drafted.

I think its a possibility but GWS would want that pick and a premium mid Gibbs Yaz etc or Kreuze and would u be willing to trade any of them? I wouldnt. We are better off hitting the draft and getting a fwd. Jeffy and Lucas will be traded IMO and i really hope we can get a FWD for them. I like Lucas though...

If we are going to play Watson then id wayyyyyyy rather MM play McInnes, he is a far better player and i can see a future for him.

I don't think Mitchell is worth as much as everyone thinks he was drafted in 2011 at pick 21 as a father-son pick but should have gone top 10. he's played 18 games but should get a game this we so that will be higher by years end. Look at polec last year drafted in 2010 so 3 years in the system like Mitchell now played 16 games and was pick 5. Port basically gave up there 1st(14) and 2nd(34) round picks for polec and a 2nd(21) and 3rd(45) round picks with GWS swapping pick in the middle.

Sadly, McInnes will never regain his turning circle or his pre-injury confidence.

I think similar to Laidler, he is damaged goods now and White has well and truly taken his spot in the side.

Personally I think we managed Laidler so poorly.

Granted, he was one of my favourite players. But we just rushed him back time and time again. Then didn't get a proper go\wasn't part of the plans under malthouse.

He is now best 22 at Sydney, and could very well go on to be a premiership player this year.

Not sure if this is the thread for it but does any one know the contract status of Zaharakis ? have always had a soft spot for him and with everything going on at Essendon* he may want out.

Couldn't agree more with this. Laidler was damaged because we damaged him. Glad to see him flourish in a top flight side when so many of our own and Mick had written him off. Just hope we don't do the same with McInnes. Hope he continues gaining confidence in his body and his improvement in the twos.

He loathes Carlton.

Plus the Drug cheats would want half our team for him.

Fair trade as by then he will be half their team.

Loving the attitudes here. :thumbsu:
I get exasperated with supporters who think that if a player hasn't "shown anything" in his first year or so he never will, so best give him the @rse sooner rather than later. (Then the same people will no doubt complain about our lack of depth.)

I just remember how immature I was in my late teens/early twenties. (Even now... hmmm....)
Some just take longer to grow than others, inside and out. Others encounter bumps in the road which we may not be aware of. Like you're suggesting about Temay, Etsal.
I'm keen to see Temay get his chance at senior level, before we even think of letting him go.
