So basically out of that deal, North would only receive pick 25 for Greenwood?
Not sure the trade is being fully reported as the components seem to change from report to report.

First one I saw said that North would receive an exchange of 2nd round picks between the 4 other clubs. Can't even work out a ballpark figure for that. 1 2nd rounder? 2? 3? 4??

From the AFL website:

The monster trade would have seen Beams and Allen Christensen end up at the Lions, Levi Greenwood and Travis Varcoe join Collingwood, Mitch Clark join Geelong, Heritier Lumumba join Melbourne and second- and third-round picks exchanged between North Melbourne and the other four clubs.

Geelong get Clark, 30 and 48
Melbourne get Lumumba
Pies get 5,21, Greenwood, Varcoe, Crisp
Lions get Beams and Christensen
North get 25.

Is that how it will work?
Why don't we just give the Pies everything? In that scenario they effectively get 5 players to our 1. Now if that 1 was Beams then maybe that's not so bad.

Surely we need to be a bit more difficult to deal with on this.

I've read that Brisbane didn't say no, they're just waiting on the results of Christensen's medical.
Supposedly passed it today (according to messages from 2 brissie supporting mates). Thought he wasnt supposed to do it til monday?

Geelong get Clark, 30 and 48
Melbourne get Lumumba
Pies get 5,21, Greenwood, Varcoe, Crisp
Lions get Beams and Christensen
North get 25.

Is that how it will work?
Don't think Pies would get Crisp as well.

So should i be hoping for a fail or pass on the medical? Which outcome benefits north most? I'm assuming a fail, then Bris have more picks which means Pies have more picks which means we get a better picks. Do Brisbane know about the back problems? The booze? The gambling? He's called Bundy ffs. booooo

First time I've seen Geelong mentioned but thanks for sharing, food for thought.

Anyway, it clearly says Geelong also get Clark in that trade so what "picks" are assigned for Christensen hardly matters if it balances in the end. So if it was Geelong who backed out they look just as silly.
I reckon Brisbane would've been far more silly to back out if true. We're happy to give up 21 for Christensen, and pick 5 and 25 are still on the table for Beams. Not sure why we would've rejected that deal given we would've lost those three picks anyway, and we have no other picks of value left.

Not really sure about what the actual trade was either.

Don't think it will effect what they're willing to give us too much. It's not like they'd give up more then they think he's worth just because they have better picks.

Yeah, but it IS a case of currently not being able to pay what they see his worth is. What if brisbane upped their off to 5 and 21? Then pies have only 21 to offer us. Aah **** who knows. Just have to wait til Monday.

They would need pick five to be a star, otherwise they'd be giving up an elite footballer for three B-graders.

Quality is always better than quantity. Beams is probably a top ten player in the comp.

He actually was a BFNAAK though yeah?
Yep. Apparently went to the board during their mini-crisis and said he loves the club and will do anything to make them stronger etc. etc.

SATURDAY NIGHT TRADE TALK

By JON PIERIK
Young Brisbane midfielder Jack Crisp could be a surprise component in a complicated five-club deal which would help Dayne Beams become a Lion.

Crisp, who has played 18 matches in three seasons with the Lions, including the final six this year, is out of contract. He has told the Lions he would be happy to return home to Victoria should a deal be struck, otherwise he will accept a two-year offer that is on the table from the Lions.

Crisp was not a topic of discussion during the meeting of all clubs on the opening day of trade week but is understood to have since attracted some interest from Essendon.

Brisbane chiefs on Saturday remained hopeful of securing Beams, despite Collingwood's bold statement it was prepared to work with other clubs as the Lions had been unable to produce a suitable deal involving players or picks by Friday's 5pm deadline.

The Lions believe if Crisp could find a new club in Melbourne, the selection they would receive in return could help get the five-player deal over the line.

The Beams deal, which was close to being finalised, would have seen Mitch Clark join the Cats, Travis Varcoe and Levi Greenwood join the Magpies, Heritier Lumumba become a Demon and Allen Christensen join the Lions. The Magpies would have received picks five, 21 and 25 from the Lions.

Beams wants to join the Lions to be near his ill father. His brother, Claye, also plays with the Lions.

Former Cat Christensen still appears almost certain to join the Lions, having passed a medical with the club on Saturday. The Lions will give the Cats pick 21 for the small forward.

Brisbane's interest in Carlton Mitch Robinson has cooled since he initially met Lions recruiting manager Peter Schwab.

The Tigers remain interested in Melbourne midfielder Jack Trengove, although there is still work to be done before any deal can be done. Trengove would need to pick the Tigers - he has also attracted interest from Adelaide - while finances also need to be sorted.

If a deal with Richmond is done, the Tigers would also receive the Demons' pick 23. The Demons, in return, would receive the Tigers' first-round selection, pick 12.

The Crows could give up their first pick - No.10 overall - but this would mean ceding their highest pick since being banned from the first two rounds of the national draft in 2012 and 2013 because of the Kurt Tippett sanctions.

Western Bulldog Adam Cooney was on Saturday deliberating his next move, having told the club he is open to being traded. It's understood the Bulldogs' decision to cut ties with coach Brendan McCartney has prompted Cooney to rethink whether he wants to leave the club.

Cooney has met North Melbourne, while the Bombers are believed to have some interest.

What sort of player is crisp?
Half-forward/midfielder, good size (190cm), good athleticism, decent skills. Nothing that really stands out about him, but he's a decent player.
I am a massive fan of Crisp. He is a smooth mover this kid.

If we could get him in this deal it would be outstanding.

He is really on the up !!!!!

We shouldnt settle for anything less than 21 out of that. Watch Greenwood be worth 2x first rounders doing what he did this year in black n white. Imagine his 16 possession last quarter in a final for the Pies.....instant media gushing A grader.

At the very least we should be down grading 36 to 30 and our fourth (Cooney)
