37 on the other hand has got us Thompson Goldstein and Macmillan. If we don't get a 3rd round upgrade I'd hope they are paying most of his salary .
If it's on the house all the better. If we were bottom of the ladder this move wouldn't be happening, but we're trying to win something and we're not breaking the bank.

Good point. At a guess i'd say we'll leve both of them on the Rookie list. Tippetts mainly backup for Grima, Thompson and Hansen at this stage and if one of them goes down he can be promoted and Turner's still only 19 next year, so I don't think there will be any rush to promote him, especially when we're struggling for list spots as it is. i think we'll draft 3 kids as Brad alluded to at the BnF and well get Waite, Higgins and Cooney in. i think it will be Levi, Hine, Anthony, Curran, Wilkins and one other who I can't qute think of off the top of my head delisted to make room for those 6.
Sugar will be upgraded to the main list, he has done enough to warrant it. To leave him on the rookie list while some draftee waltzes in on much higher pay would send the wrong message.

From memory, the 3 picks we need to make can include rookie upgrades, with the last draft choice(s) allocated to these. IF Cooney comes in, it looks as if 2 (new) picks will be fine at 16 & 25. Then Turner and/or Tippet get upgraded.

Top 30 in this draft is quality.

Defs need 3 picks in there to get some talent in and offset the old farts we've picked up over past few years in dal, waite and possible coondog.

With harvey, wells, firrito, petrie all nearing the end aswell, only using 2 picks doesn't sit well with me.

I would prefer we use 3 picks in the 30s rather than just the 18 and 25 if it comes to that. But we should remember that we will have potentially 3 or 4 rookie picks this year, so we should still have a good group of kids coming in. And as history shows the rookie draft has not simply been a case of making up the numbers at North...Turner, Tippett, Gibbo, Fishy, Daw, Patch, Spud, Loose, ...

What's the current rules re minimum picks in the draft? I though it was 3 but do rookie upgrades count?

If the latter then we may not even use #36. Similar to Port when offered #37-8(?) for Jacobs but they were done and dusted before then.

not interested in Cooney, was warmed to the idea when it come up a few days ago, but he along with Waite and Higgins changes the age make up of our list way too much. Think we are better off sticking with what we have while balancing it up by getting games into Dumont and co.

How are we getting 3 picks in the 30's? As far as i'm aware we currently have 16 and maybe getting 25 for Levi.

I don't think Waite, Higgins or Cooney would be stopping Froggy from getting a game.

What some people fail to realise is that Cooney was the second choice for opposition teams to tag after Griffin and his stats are not bad over the last two years after his treatment for his knee.

At North he would not even be considered to be tagged and with Cooney and Harvey rotating in the high half forward role (replacing Adams) then he will thrive. He still has his pace and skill.

Not saying he's without merit but a physically brittle bloke heading towards 30 ain't worth pick 36 in my book no matter how much of his wage is being subsidised.

And in no universe would I call it a 'steal'.

Maybe wasn't so clear putting it that way. I meant the picks 16, 25, 36, assuming the Levi predictions are correct. Would expect to get quality players with those picks, and would prefer not to use 36 on Cooney, but not overly fussed.

36 is probably slightly overs - however we dont have anything between 40-50 which is probably around the mark. I wouldnt be to dissapointed with this particularly having picks 16 and 25.
