did you look at the names I listed?
In the post I was quoting, you didn't list any names, you stated that player development had come to a hault (sic). You meant halt.

You subsequently listed some players and took the view that some careers have been ruined by injury. At the same time you conceded injury isn't the club's fault.

So, what are you getting at when you say that the club's player development has come to a halt? Because I can't see it.

Well might as well go for it whilst Boomer and Co. have got 2-3 years left, then even if we bottom out a bit for 2 years or so during GWS and GC reigns, we can reload with Ziebell being 27/28
See, I don't think our short term list is that great nor our long term list is that bad.

A little bit of senior topping up ie Higgins, Waite, NDS, Nahas made sense. But think it's still worth bringing players into the side at the rate we've been doing so far. If we had landed Varcoe, Lumumba, Cooney (tbc) we suddenly have 6 spots (have excluded Higgins) going to blokes who are risky bets either for age and/or output.

I don't think we're so great right now that we're just a couple of tweaks off a flag top 4 finish notwithstanding.

Nor does our flag window dimish so dramatically post Boomer and Petrie. Manage our youth recruitment right with more offensive players and maybe the nucleus of Cunnington, Swallow, Ziebell, Thompson, LT, Goldie is strong enough to take us places without a heap of OAPs showing them the way.

Going for it would entail getting players who can perform and are not injury prone. Yes there is no guarantee that those players would not get injured, but based on prior history there is a greater chance of Cooney being sidelined than a fully fit player, like wise Higgo the piggo!

Best I'm hoping for now:

Levi for 25 - not wrap but wishing ain't gonna make it better.

No Cooney deal. You've met the club's movers and shaker, seen the setup. If you're still not convinced I'm happy you to drive you to * myself.
Agree if true on Cooney. But it's equally (more?) plausible that it's the media getting it wrong again, especially if (as someone noted earlier) they weren't even aware that he was doing a medical at North.

Also based on our mind set of playing under performing players like Adams and basti, I bet Dumont with his 9 vfl bog's is wondering whyhe couldn't crack it. Saying form should get the young guys a game is a misnomer, I bet it takes an injury for them to get past Higgins, Waite and Cooney if he comes in!

Of course, all posts should have a 'subject to information being accurate' disclaimer.

That's my issue with Levi not that is matters now. That Adams and Basti were near undroppable and got re-signed ahead of him sent a confusing message to say the least.

At least with Patch I think his attitude was good it just didn't happen for him. Basti must've been given a lifetime senior selection token when he got drafted.

Strong mail is that north want 30 and 25 from collingwood for levi.

If they cant get it, they've threatened to send him to the psd.

Bulldogs will pick him up and trade us their pick 26,27,cooney for 36 and harper and then get levi via the psd where they can match any offer from collingwoood.

Me likes. Either way we get 3 picks inside the first 30.

Well the deal is about to go through, not long until we find out. I think it's just going to be 25 though.

And that's all we've ever asked for- am more than happy with Levi going through to PSD.

I think we've done it well, taken in 4 older guys over last 2 years without giving up much and still drafting guys with inside 40 picks.
Just making the point that Boomer and Co. want to go after it now, which I think we should do while they're around and develop the players to take their spots in the future. I still think we lack some class in that younger group, so bottoming out like Port for a few years during GWS rise wouldn't be the worst and reloading quite quickly with that core young group with a bit of top 10 cream.
Hopefully we can utilize father-son picks over the next 5 years as well.
I'm sure we'll bring in Dumont, Garner, Wood, Brown and Turner for certain games, but realistically Brown needs some work on strength and fitness, so perhaps deficiencies can be worked on in the vfl with these guys.
