I have concerns that we haven't developed a truly elite player in a long time, but our strike rate in developing first 22 players is excellent.

Harper had loads of time. At some point it has to go on the player.
Without access to high draft picks, and long may that continue, it is hard to get an elite talent.

Very disappointed indeed. Levi has been one of my favourite players for all his career.

But even more disappointed that we get 25 for Levi and the Cats get Stanley for 21. Forget about the 60, that's meaningless.

By that measure Stanley is better than Levi? Well s*** on me from a great height.

Message in all of this. DO NOT EVER AGAIN TRADE WITH COLLINGWOOD.

Do you think that if Geelong had 25 and Collingwood had 21, these deals wouldn't have been done?

Is it truly an indication of relative value, or available picks in a satisfactory range?

People are over-playing this Stanley v Greenwood thing to fuel the popular opinion that North have traded poorly in this instance. I think that's far from true.

So now we are supposed to be coughing up 36, harper, giving him a 3 year contract AND paying most of his remaining contracts pay! All this for a suspect injury prone player. Well played North if it pans out :(

There can be only one...
I reckon Brisbane can push for top 8 now... adding beams,Christianen to there midfield and getting back Rich frm injury is a pretty good team...
It can depend really, it depends on who they are replacing and how well they work together. I wouldn't expect Beams to be as good with Rockliff next to him, they are basically going to compete for the same ball, it is why Cunnington dropped off when Swallow came back in.

So we got pick 25 for an uncontracted player who did not want to win the premiership next year.

I must be a bit slow, because I am having trouble finding a downside here.

Good luck Levi, I hope you do well as an individual; and I hope you continue with FIGJAMs curse of chasing and never getting a premiership.

Yet clubs like Sydney (Parker, Hannebery, Jack) do it regularly with more speculative picks. Beams went in the 30s too, and Fyfe. Rockliff PSD.

I think we develop draftees well but struggle to push them through the elite barrier.

We probably would have been knocked out of the EF without Greenwood, is pick 25 going to fill that void?

Strong mail I am getting a Big Mac for lunch - more to come.
Ahhh another cryptic trade message...we already have BT's J clue, now we have GBS's Mac clue...oh shit, dont tell me we are going to trade JMac now :eek:

Or maybe its more subtle than that (he says studying his manual of footy cryptology)...there is a 'Big' factor at play....Mac is reverse for Cam....big J Cam....am I on the right track BT and GBS?

Pick 25 was unders, but he wanted to go, had no contract with us, and Collingwood didn't have an earlier 2nd round pick than 25. It was the pragmatic result.

Unlike others, I wish Levi well at Collingwood and hope he does continue his good form. Except against us.
yeah if anything pick 25 did seem a bit unders, and although I have no idea about how many guys you plan on taking at the draft, I'm surprised Collingwood didn't also give pick 67 to North instead of giving it away freely to Brisbane with Beams, which was only done because Collingwood doesn't plan on using it.

Seriously, if Cooney wants to go to *, then let him. The more we throw on the trade table to get the deal over the line, the more desperate we look. I thought pick 36 was overs, then we added Harper to the deal and now it's reported we're gonna pay out his contract as well?? All for an injury prone 29 year old? I think we should just let it go. If he seriously favors going to a club like * over us, I question his capability of making good decisions anyway.

Sure we "lost" the trade, but at-least we aren't in Collingwood's position. They'd have one of the three most unattractive lists in the league now for mine, not as bad as Carlton, but would surely be up for debate with West Coast for the second worst in the league. The spread of talent suggests they are built to win now, yet they obviously aren't even close and just went backwards. They just lost their best player who was under 25, leaving their top five for that group as Sidebottom, Adams, Elliott, Langdon and... maybe Seedsman? After that it gets pretty grim as you can probably assume by the inclusions of Adams, Langdon and Seedsman in their top 5.

With Swan deteriorating and Beams gone, their dominant midfield is well and truly dead, Greenwood is a good get but his influence is on par with Ball who was forced out the door for whatever reason. Cloke also began to show his true form without the best midfield in the AFL kicking to him this season, suffice to say it wasn't pretty, can only imagine how it'll be next year. Going to be a bit of a shock for him going from Beams, Swan and Ball to Greenwood, Adams and Crisp.

So have fun with that Levi :thumbsu:.

But we are not looking for pick 25 in isolation to fill a void in an event that has already taken place.

We are looking for Higgins, Waite, Cooney? and our draft picks and those playing in the Magoo's (Dumont) to fill that void if it should eventuate next year.

I just can not summon any angst over an individual trade per se. I prefer to look at the whole of our trade/draft and see if we are better placed than when it started.
