Seriously, if Cooney wants to go to *, then let him. The more we throw on the trade table to get the deal over the line, the more desperate we look. I thought pick 36 was overs, then we added Harper to the deal and now it's reported we're gonna pay out his contract as well?? All for an injury prone 29 year old? I think we should just let it go. If he seriously favors going to a club like * over us, I question his capability of making good decisions anyway.

Yet clubs like Sydney (Parker, Hannebery, Jack) do it regularly with more speculative picks. Beams went in the 30s too, and Fyfe. Rockliff PSD.

I think we develop draftees well but struggle to push them through the elite barrier.
I tend to agree, but it might also be that we simply haven't selected the type of players with that extra capability.

The 2 situations are comparable because there was no way Collingwood were going to force beams to stay. They just bluffed, which we also could have done instead of just rolling over.
Rolling over? Do you mean Greenwood?

If so that is wrong as the situation with Beams and Greenwood are completely different in terms of bargaining power.

Much easier to bluff when there's no PSD on the line. Completely different and Collingwood still got unders.

But we are not looking for pick 25 in isolation to fill a void in an event that has already taken place.

We are looking for Higgins, Waite, Cooney? and our draft picks and those playing in the Magoo's (Dumont) to fill that void if it should eventuate next year.

I just can not summon any angst over an individual trade per se. I prefer to look at the whole of our trade/draft and see if we are better placed than when it started.
None of the three inclusions are inside mids, only Dumont has the tools to fill that role and it is unlikely he will get the early development in the AFL side.

With levi gone i'd like to replace him with Armitage who has had his name thrown around a bit earlier in the trade period
I would consider that for the right price. I don't mind Armitage.
Certainly ahead of this Harper plus 36 plus contract garbage for Cooney.

Right. Silver lining - 2 picks in 1st 25.

Silver panty lining - 3 picks in 1st 25 are already allocated.

So we now effectively have picks 13 and 22 in terms of live picks.

And just a bonus FU while I'm at it to the tankers and AFL for them getting #3 for Frawley..

Really? As much as im all for Cooney this does seem ridiculous if they get a pick and we don't agree

we were heavily weighted with inside mids with greenwood in the side. I think in time we will see that greenwood leaving is a blessing in disguise.

Let's be honest - Cunners, Spitta and Jack will always be played ahead of greenwood. Only reason he played this year is because of injury to Spitta. And in fairness to him, his form meant he couldn't be pushed out.

The key to a successful side is to have a good mix of inside and out.. I would argue that I would prefer to have Sewell beside me in the trenches ahead of Brad Hill. But Hill plays because he adds balance to the overall team.

2nd Rd pick for Cooney?

Are they throwing Griffin in to get this over the line?

I say yes to Griffen and Cooney for 25 and Majak, they need a Forward.
I still hold some slim hope that Daw can be salvaged into a Drew Petrie type sit in the goal square forward where we just bomb it to the hot spot where he just needs to run 5m, jump and take a grab for the post Drew era. I don't particularly rate him for any other role that requires football smarts, because he hasn't shown any natural football instinct.

That would require the club to stop playing him as predominately a ruckman in the VFL, getting a lot more core strength work done and a lot less bicep bulking weight work.

Um. Not exactly sure what you mean. The post I quoted said that we have no bargaining power compared to Collingwood because beams is contracted while Levi isn't.
But we have the same, if not more, bargaining power vs Collingwood than they have vs Brisbane.

So, Collingwood had a player that wanted to leave, they received an offer from another club. They refuse that offer and say that they will no longer deal with said club, club comes back saying they will improve the deal.

We have a player who wants to leave. We receive an offer for that player (which is far below his actual value), yet instead of saying that because the offer is too little we will attempt to trade him to other clubs, we just "roll over" and accept it.

Any questions?

Edit. We have as much bargaining power because there were other clubs interested in greenwood, and beams wants to go home to be with his sick dad, there is no way they were going to keep him at Collingwood next season.

Sure we "lost" the trade, but at-least we aren't in Collingwood's position. They'd have one of the three most unattractive lists in the league now for mine, not as bad as Carlton, but would surely be up for debate with West Coast for the second worst in the league. The spread of talent suggests they are built to win now, yet they obviously aren't even close and just went backwards. They just lost their best player who was under 25, leaving their top five for that group as Sidebottom, Adams, Elliott, Langdon and... maybe Seedsman? After that it gets pretty grim as you can probably assume by the inclusions of Adams, Langdon and Seedsman in their top 5.

With Swan deteriorating and Beams gone, their dominant midfield is well and truly dead, Greenwood is a good get but his influence is on par with Ball who was forced out the door for whatever reason. Cloke also began to show his true form without the best midfield in the AFL kicking to him this season, suffice to say it wasn't pretty, can only imagine how it'll be next year. Going to be a bit of a shock for him going from Beams, Swan and Ball to Greenwood, Adams and Crisp.

So have fun with that Levi :thumbsu:.
