Thought he'd be taller than that

There's a saying...it's not the size that counts. It's what you do with it is the main thing! One of my all time favourite players & goalkicker was Richard Osborne. Tricky Dicky was only 182 centimetres, yet he played Full Forward for Fitzroy regularly. He was a champion forward.

There you go.

Goes without saying, this is probably the best possible news for us and the integrity of pick 4. I doubt the Hawks are paying Frawley at a tier 1 compensation level, although it's hard to know for sure.

I think the article is spot on when it says that it puts Schoenmakers on the outer a bit. Unless Lake is retiring, and even if he is, Schoenmakers is probably starting next year in the VFL as it stands.

His availability as a trade probably would have a flow on effect for any potential movement of Daniel Merrett: Schoenmakers would be a more attractive option for most clubs for a number of reasons.

I reckon this slightly increases the chances of Merrett staying on our list next season, for better or worse.

Thanks for the comment but I'd have thought that small forward is a position of relative strength. Green is a permanent forward and we'll rotate guys like Zorko, Taylor, Mayes through there a bit.

Yeah, I am going to assume his autocorrect changed Tall to Small. :p

Whilst players like Zorko and Taylor are small in terms of size, I see them more as half forwards/midfielders. I still think you need a small forward who can kick 30+ goals. Just my opinion.

Yeah, that's Green. I just don't see it as a position of need right now. I'd have tall forward, small defender and playmaking half back as higher priorities.

Fair enough. Courtenay Dempsey would be an ideal fit at half back. I think Brisbane were looking at him recently and he would give the Lions some much needed pace across that half back line.

How about you give us Luke Breust? He is surplus to requirements for you now that you have Frawley.

It also looks like Leppa is keen for Redden to spend some time in the forwardline.

I think Leppa prefers midfielders who change in the forwardline to dedicated small forwards.
No deal. You can have Whitecross if you like. :p

Oh we'd take him. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if we'd already made inquiries.

Me too. I thought he was 193
With Beams likely to land at Brisbane, I'd say the Lions have most areas on the list pretty well covered for next year. The only thing lacking right now is that small forward position. If Brisbane can land a small forward whether it's via Trade week or the National draft, then the Lions playing list will be in top shape heading into the 2015 season. :thumbsu:

that's probably one of our strongest areas. what we need a a small defender I think. We have always been killed by small quick forwards

Was just an observation. Seeing him on TV, he looks taller than his height suggests.
I had no opinion as to whether we should look at him or not. Just a mere observation.

there was some suggestions pre trade week that Schoenmakers might be interested in going to SA. he was draft from Norwood so not sure if genuine or just someone like Jay Clark going he is from SA I'll say he is interested in heading back there.

Adelaide might be interested with Rutten retiring.

re: us and creative defenders and small defenders I was thinking if we get Beams we'd have enough midfielders to move one to defence. Rocky, Rich, Redden, Beams, Aish, Zorko, Hanley (7 for 5 starting midfield positions). Could potentially play Rich or Hanley off the half back flank and convert Adcock from the 'creative' half back player to a more lock down small defender pushing Harwood/Golby out of the team or to the bench.

I think Rich will play off the half back flank next season.

Works on the pay and his age with a magical formula not published to prevent tampering...

Speaking of which I wonder if there is enough of a sample size by now to reverse engineer the formula... Either way here's hoping if it does spit out a 1st round after their pick common sense prevails and they move it to mid/end of 1st round.
