The 2014 World Cup final is here. Germany vs Argentina. A European team versus a South American team. What can we expect to see?

Both teams arrived to this final in completely different styles.

Germany strolled into the final by dismantling the host nation Brazil in emphatic style. They were really never challenged, and the game was as good as done by the 30 minute mark. It was quite an easy ride for the Germans, however, credit must go to them for the way they played and how they took advantage of Brazil's weaknesses. Germany also have an extra day off to top off their stroll into the final.

On the other hand, Argentina went the whole hog in their semi final against the Netherlands, wrestling their way to the penalty shootout. Argentina, like their opponents the Netherlands, played without much risk, and instead chose to play a more defensive-minded game. However, they did create more opportunities than the Dutch, and in end were just too good for them in the penalty shoot-out courtesy of their goalkeeper Romero.

Going on form alone, it's hard to go past Germany here. They have been more clinical in their victories and have a wider spread of potential goal scorers. Argentina have done enough to progress, however, doing enough doesn't win you the big one. You have to push beyond this, and if they want to win the World Cup, then they are going to have to find something extra in the final.

You definitely can't write of either side in this final. They are both classy sides and anything can happen on the day.

Final Prediction: Germany 3-2 Argentina (Germany's third goal in extra time).

Argentina really are Germany's bunnies when it comes to big games. It's all a bit Geelong V Freo. First goal is important. Argentina can do it. Please let there be goals regardless.

Except for the 1986 final!!

Got the match-up I needed to win the work tipping comp- danke schoen and muchos gracias. The question is, will it be Messi or Klose? Germany look to have a bit more creativity and resourcefulness all over the park.

Germany 3 Argentina 1 (1 - 0 at half time).

Could not really be bothered making any predictions but all I want is a German victory. been supporting them along with Australia since 06 due to my dad and his family been born there. After the semi loss to Italy in 06, final of euro loss to spain, 2010 semi final loss to spain and euro 2012 semi loss to italy we are due for this trophy, this team has gotten so much experience since the last world cup.

Only watched the first half this morning with my eyes struggling to stay open but I take your word for it anyway

I could be wrong, can't see anything on the net. Was taking his word for it.

Just out of interest, why do you not put "Goals Conceded" into the stats chart?

Who would have thought Argentina would make the final with only 7 goals scored and 3 conceded given they were rated as having the best attack and their defence the main weakness.

Spain were 7 and 2 going in to the Final four years ago.
