The 2014 World Cup final is here. Germany vs Argentina. A European team versus a South American team. What can we expect to see?
Both teams arrived to this final in completely different styles.
Germany strolled into the final by dismantling the host nation Brazil in emphatic style. They were really never challenged, and the game was as good as done by the 30 minute mark. It was quite an easy ride for the Germans, however, credit must go to them for the way they played and how they took advantage of Brazil's weaknesses. Germany also have an extra day off to top off their stroll into the final.
On the other hand, Argentina went the whole hog in their semi final against the Netherlands, wrestling their way to the penalty shootout. Argentina, like their opponents the Netherlands, played without much risk, and instead chose to play a more defensive-minded game. However, they did create more opportunities than the Dutch, and in end were just too good for them in the penalty shoot-out courtesy of their goalkeeper Romero.
Going on form alone, it's hard to go past Germany here. They have been more clinical in their victories and have a wider spread of potential goal scorers. Argentina have done enough to progress, however, doing enough doesn't win you the big one. You have to push beyond this, and if they want to win the World Cup, then they are going to have to find something extra in the final.
You definitely can't write of either side in this final. They are both classy sides and anything can happen on the day.
Final Prediction: Germany 3-2 Argentina (Germany's third goal in extra time).
