Just a chance to go over some holes in our list, analyse some places we need to improve and look into some individuals and there roles.

Just opinions guys, happy to argue them but do it properly and dont be stupid about it.

I'm going to get it rolling with some 1x1 analysis.

Ibbotson - love him, just got to get him fit. Can be better then Johnson in that role.
Spurr - does he really offer anything? Hes tough and courageous for sure, but he doesnt shut down a small forward and doesnt provide any attacking flair.
Sutty - clearly his role isn't a small defender. Is he the Crowley replacement? Ceratinly cant play last line of defense.
Duffield - is he nearly done? do we have a replacement? we need clean creative ball users down back.
Tanner Smith - he really needs to get fit. Needs to play at least 10-12 games to see if he has a future.
Crozier - should play 22 games next year and imo needs to rotate through midfield.
Sheridan - buid that tank and prove yourself son. Can he play half back? If not i would like to see his form push Pearce out of the side.
Taberner - his injury killed us structurally saturday night, so needs to play round 1 and all year. Just needs to get stronger.
Apeness - would like to see him play 10-12 games. Think he needs to develop into a Tippett type that can pinch in ruck. Playing 2 rucks every week seems to be hurting us.

Needs -
Shut down small defender.
Creative runners across half back. (see Kangaroos)
Established swingman that can plug in and replace Pav, Silvagni or Johnson at a pinch. (see Waite)

Creative runners across half back also see Swans and Hawks

You left out Alex Pearce is who more likely to play down back in 2015 than Tanner Smith

Spurr started slowly but I liked him in the later season...

Small shutdown derfender are hard to find anyway. Most team have problems to hold firing small forwards...

what was wrong with sutty last night?

Tabs didn't get injuried he just sucked.

We would all love to see Roger Hayden reincarnated, and while Spurr isn't in that league he is decent. I wouldn't be moving Sutcliffe from the backline. Sure he may be able to play midfield but he is developing nicely enough where he is now. A bit more strength and defensive smarts and he will be awesome. I also think that Dawson and Sylvagni are not the smartest players with ball in hand, and they are shaping as our two KPD's, so we need good runners and disposers in our smaller players back there.

Tabs didn't get injuried he just sucked.

Tabs had a tight groin, Ross wouldn't hav subbed him if he was right to go.

Sutty had 4 kicked on him in the third.

Smaller quicker, creative forwards give him fits.

I don't think so, we hav Tabs & Ape.
See my comment re: Waite though.
Tabs and Ape will take another 2-3 years to be consistent and we need more than "I only play well when I want a new contract" Waite

So Out: Spurr?

Yet another moronic overreaction.

I'm not neccesarily saying Spurr OUT.

I'm asking what he offers? Maybe read my comments and discuss them without commenting in this manner.

I read your comments, it's pretty obvious you think he's shit. He was one of the best on for us last week against Sydney.

Then we don't go Waite, we try to find another option like Casboult or one of the guys waiting in line at Sydney.

Na I don't think he's shit mate, I absolutely love the way he plays his footy.
He's tough as old boots & courageous as they come. But he isn't very creative, loves to just throw it on the boot and clear the area. And he gets beaten consistently by opposition smalls.

I'm saying if we can find either a creator or a stopper then sacrificing his strengths may be something we need to deal with.

I have already said this in a previous thread, but I genuinely think we should look at developing brady grey as a small defender.
Mega quick, mega hard, skillful and has real aggression about him.

He has all the physical attributes to be a successful small defender!

Note: He also did some tagging jobs in peel this year with success, so obviously has a defensive side to his game.

I actually think Spurr could eventually be Crowley's replacement. I like him in the backline, but agree that small forwards cause too much grief for us and we need to improve in that area.

No nned for angst. Injuries killed us again this year. See how port would go losing their best 2 key defenders and small forward.

I have no doubt that had we had a full list - like Port - we would be winning the flag this year.

such a shame

I love this. Spurr is a goer but we need a true lockdown small defender. Oh I miss Roger Hayden.

spurr is honest, but we need someone to compliment spurr just like ballantyne and walters compliment each other. Obviously different circumstances of course

Mzungu for Crowley in the short term. He has actually played quite often as a second lock down midfielder this year and done really well but never gets the plaudits for the job (externally).

Should we target a couple of the talls from Melbourne who might be tempted to come to a team that will actually win a game. I know I will get slammed for saying this but maybe Watts, Garland, Pedersen, etc. We could put Watts in the back line and maybe turn him around ala Tarrant and at least Roos would trade with us and maybe take Suban, DeBoer, etc unlike trying to trade with people like Malthouse, Eagles, etc who overrate their players so much.
