Just a chance to go over some holes in our list, analyse some places we need to improve and look into some individuals and there roles.

Just opinions guys, happy to argue them but do it properly and dont be stupid about it.

I'm going to get it rolling with some 1x1 analysis.

Ibbotson - love him, just got to get him fit. Can be better then Johnson in that role.
Spurr - does he really offer anything? Hes tough and courageous for sure, but he doesnt shut down a small forward and doesnt provide any attacking flair.
Sutty - clearly his role isn't a small defender. Is he the Crowley replacement? Ceratinly cant play last line of defense.
Duffield - is he nearly done? do we have a replacement? we need clean creative ball users down back.
Tanner Smith - he really needs to get fit. Needs to play at least 10-12 games to see if he has a future.
Crozier - should play 22 games next year and imo needs to rotate through midfield.
Sheridan - buid that tank and prove yourself son. Can he play half back? If not i would like to see his form push Pearce out of the side.
Taberner - his injury killed us structurally saturday night, so needs to play round 1 and all year. Just needs to get stronger.
Apeness - would like to see him play 10-12 games. Think he needs to develop into a Tippett type that can pinch in ruck. Playing 2 rucks every week seems to be hurting us.

Needs -
Shut down small defender.
Creative runners across half back. (see Kangaroos)
Established swingman that can plug in and replace Pav, Silvagni or Johnson at a pinch. (see Waite)

- sutcliffe has too much talent to be a tagger, has confidence to break the lines and is one of the best kicks on the team.
- sheridan doesnt need to improve his tank, he needs to work on his composure. has a long long way to go before hes pushing people like pearce out of the team.

Want to be wrong but I have doubts as to whether Sheridan will even make it at AFL level.

Think you will be wrong mate.

Think sheridan will be a solid player, maybe always a depth player, but never a bad player.
Already played in a GF (I think couldn't be bothered checking) - you can't be a bad player to do this.

Was dropped after the Qualifying Final at KP.

Geez I like Sheridan's composure when he is kicking to a leading forward or his composure when kicking for goal.

But if you mean he lacks composure 'in the heat of the battle' sure so do a lot of kids such as Crozier who might just now be coming out the other side.

Keep working him, he runs like Hill, but I agree that he has a long way to go.

An emergency for the GF. Sutty and Neale played though.

He has better disposal, takes more defensive marks, gets forward more and helps with link up play, he just generally impacts games more and is a better defender then Sutcliffe, although I do rate Cameron.

i will give you the defensive marks and better defender (though sutty kept darling quiet) but i have to disagree with all the other comparisons

We have sufficient small defenders, Spurr, iboo and Sutcliffe. It only seemed so because they had to play as talls.
If Spurr and Sutcliffe are going to cop a hiding against the Gray's and Wingard's of the world, then we still have a problem. What was Duffield doing when all this was happening?

Thought about him after i posted, I reckon that's what RTB saw in him .

Lester Smith is the same.
He played pretty well in the final series. Has had a quiet year after his injury. but he looked ok. When in form he would of kicked most of those shots for goal he missed. I wonder if he is still a smoky for a rookie spot this year?

He would have to be on the Radar.

One trick pony?

To an extent, but a very, very good one. He had some games earlier in the year where he was BOG for my mind. Problem is, like Spurr, he isn't quick or agile enough to keep with the Gray's and the Rioli's of this world. Mind you I agree with whoever it was that said our issues with small forwards are structural not personnel.

Yeah thought he was quite good in the couple of EF games I caught this year.
