If you want to play Apness in the back line who is going to be developed as our tall forwards, as Sydney proved last night and Hawthorn today we need to develop some taller options in the forward line or trade for 1-2 players to put there. We can't think our mids and small forwards will kick enough to win us a premiership.

The cleaning up of the back line means that we will then have Taberner, Clarke, Mayne and Pavlich in our forward alongside our two crucial smalls. I think the two talls and strong bodies will be enough. Apeness should be developed into the same role that Mayne plays for the team. Also, don't forget Duffy is still growing.

Apeness is already a better contested mark than all of that lot except maybe pav.

Give it time... He'll be a better contested mark than pav.

Apeness doesn't add to tabs, Clarke, mayne and pav in the forward line. He substitutes for one of them. Send a poorer contested mark down back... where a spoil has more value.

6pr mentioned Freo should target Tex Walker. What would it take?

we should target tom hawkins instead. He's even better isn't he? What would it take?

Yep...

I doubt highly he'd come west. Mainly because I doubt he'll leave the Crows. If he does, I think he'd be odds on to go to Victoria. But, again, I doubt he'd leave Adelaide. Money wise, he'd be very, very expensive. Captain obvious, I know, but I don't really know how much. He'd easily be top 3 for $ at the Crows, so it would be a truckload.

Agree on the cash, I think he would be a 600-700k per year player.

I was more thinking of what the trade would need to be. I didn't catch the talk about the trade they were discussing.

He looks pretty good alongside Fyfe....

Duffy will be 22 next season and has not changed has height or body shape a couple years. Mayne is 188 cm and the Apeman is 199 cm. it's a big ask for a tall like Apeness to play a mayne like role.

Unfortunately it's only likely to happen in future AA teams. Or rural images in an idyllic farm setting.

Where'd you track that one down? Hawkins a country boy also?

I saw it on instagram. Something about Fyfe and Hawkins, both country lads, trying to bring back wool guernseys into country footy. Look up "fibre of football"

adjustments:

Crowley - I think it's time to hang up the boots. He's lost the plot a bit, there are often times throughout the game the ball will drop right next to him and he will stay with his man rather than getting the ball. We are playing with 1 less player (hurts even more when he's at centre bounces) while the other team may be playing with 0.5 less of a player. He's been a tremendous player for the club and has really got everything out of his body that is possible. Even though it's not true the umpires (due to the media) have got it in their mind that he is a scragger and often pay the 50/50 free kicks that shouldn't be there.

Walters/Crozier to rotate through the midfield to inject a bit of speed. Crozier should put on a couple of kegs of muscle over the preseason.

Sutcliffe could be a Crowley type replacement?

Tabener - played about 4 decent quarters from the 9 games he was in this year, showed a bit of improvement in the last couple of h/a games. Have to persist with him as we have no one else.

Umm...why? Sutty provides much needed run from half back and is involved with setting up a number of our goals, particularly those coast-to-coast goals. Why waste him as a tagger when his skills are valuable to us.

Feeling like a bit of a broken record these days when it comes to Sutcliffe...

I am wanting us to be more attacking and I think that is not especially a forward line issue. Really looking forward to Taberner and Apeness forging a strong forward partnership, but the real key for me is more speed and better disposal in the midfield and off half-back; on the transition. We already have some options coming through for this, but will be very interested to see how our recruiting goes.

My number one request for 2015 is for balla to stop belting people... My number 2 request is for him to stop breaking his jaw, and finally number 3, is for him to play one finals game with the impact that he plays his h&a games..... Too much to ask?

I agree in part, that the midfield needs to step up, and the fact that the classier ball users in the middle rarely kick goals is a worry.

However I feel there is a major problem where Freo can't score unless the forward line is an open paddock. There needs to be some creative forwards who can score goals in a thimble of space. Ballas and Walter can do this, but Mayne, De Boer and Suban can't. If you choke up Freo's forwardline and kill the ball on the ground, even all the tackling pressure in the world won't allow for a clean shot on goal short of winning a holding the ball free (which were exceedingly difficult to get this year).

I hope Crozier and Duffy become those players who can turn half chances into accurate scores.

He quit footy before Lyon got to the club.

He also quit St Kilda at a time they desperately needed him: a fast, nifty player in an otherwise slow team.

(Aussie Jones) Arguably played a role in denying St Kilda a premiership.

I understand Jones quit St Kilda for personal reasons (burnout IRRC) but so too did Lyon move to Fremantle for similarly honourable reasons: his family.

Hypocrite, Jones is.

Agree with this. I nearly cried when in the fourth Crowley who was closest to the ball started to run towards it then turned and ran in the other direction with eyes for Boak leaving Wingard to pick the ball up on the run and slot a goal from the pocket. That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Agree 100% with the bold. Yes Crowley partially negates the opps best player so they get 15-20 poss instead of 30 but since he does nothing useful except lob the ball forward with the odd hospital pass, we are one player down. And we wonder why we usually lose the clearance stats against the better teams. Would rather thank him for playing the role he has been given and use someone else like Deboer in a similar role but who can get his own ball and do something useful with it.

A bit effusive. Mdb is a shithouse kick.
