Does all the speculation about the quality leading up to a draft usually match up with how its rated a few years later? The 2013 draft is looking pretty good now, was the general consensus during the year that it would be a stronger than usual group?
Or is this year just abnormally shallow?

Last year we were all saying that this year was a strong draft, this year we are saying next year will be a strong draft.
Don't buy to much into it.
This year the top end talent have been decimated by injury, quality is still there especially kkp quality.

Agility test
Aaron Francis is a key defender who can play in the midfield and has also excelled up forward. His best trait is his overhead marking, an attribute that makes him a damaging and dangerous player. His agility for a 191cm player is also elite. The South Australian has recorded the quickest agility test at state level among combine invitees (7.74 seconds). Aidyn Johnson is another one to watch here. Johnson hasn't played since April due to an ongoing quad problem, but has run 7.81 seconds for the agility test before. He should be fit to complete all testing this week.

When does the test take place? Saturday morning

Top Combine performances (seconds)
Stephen Hill 7.77 2008
Danyle Pearce 7.79 2004
Nathan van Berlo 7.80 2004
Elliot Yeo 7.80 2011
Ahmed Saad 7.86 2011
David Armitage 7.88 2006
Billie Smedts 7.90 2010
Aaron Joseph 7.91 2007

At this point, Weitering is the main man as far as we are concerned.

If we can do the trades we want and walk away with a couple of first round picks while managing to use 1 to get in Tomlinson, I would say that we spend 1 pick on someone like Charlie Curnow because he could be used to rest Cripps forward and rotate through the midfield. I would use another pick on getting someone like Parish. Everything that I have read about him is that he is a slightly lighter version of Smurph.

If we could walk away with Weitering, Curnow and Parish... along with some of the players from the mooted traded then we have definitely won this years trade and draft period.

We'd need 2 picks inside the top 10 to get Curnow/Parish Dram - can't see it happening! 1 maybe (Cats) but not 2 sadly...

So we need 1, 4, 8 plus whatever we need for Tomlinson/Plowman...

Time to change your name to Dreamoth ;)

I'll be happy with Weitering, Tomlinson, Plowman plus a tall like Weideman and a zippy small.

I think that Parish might be a bit of a slider and drift out to 12-14 TBH... he is a touch light to be ready to go into the cauldron next year and most clubs in the lower reaches of the ladder look towards taking ready made players. If we can get Premiershipmond's first round pick for Yazz (pick 12), then I would be using that to nab him if he does slide.

Unless Charlie has improved out of sight, he wouldnt be going in the top 8... so the Geebungs pick 9 would be ideal to grab him there... and see my response to Matty411 for my view about Parish.

From reading the Combine hype stuff I am left to assume today is interview day.

Would be intrigued if any little whispers popped up tonight
Could be interesting. I think that it is a given that we are going for Weitering and he would seriously have to piss on someone's cornflakes to not be picked at #1

Agree if he did, but word is that * are keen on Parish at their first. If they somehow nab #5 from $t Kilda, he'll definitely go.

There is no way that the aint's will be trading pick 5 for Carlisle. They need it to pick up another key forward as backup for the Reiwoldt succession plan hits a snag.

And Essendon need another defender more than they need another mid. I would say that they would be more interested in looking at Francis or Collins with their first rounder. Parish is only an option if, like you said, they manage to con the Aints out of pick 5.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of, it might determine how "into" this draft we want.

If we think we've identified a list of really good kids, who can play, but are also leaders, we might suddenly see even more activity in getting into the draft.

I mean SOS has clearly committed to trying to get a host of first round picks. Besides Yarran and Hendo (where our stance via McKay has been definitively stated) we're also sending Bell home, shopping Casboult and apparently Daisy too.

I don't think that we can trade Daisy can we? He still has another 2 years to roll on his contract and he was a FA deal.

Also... the club might be shopping Casboult around, but Casboult has to want to move before any deal can be done. And being a blue blood with ties to the club, I don't think that he would be that interested in moving... unless of course the financial terms of the contract being put in front of him were too damned good to refuse.

Bell would get us Brisvegas's second round pick.

Even then though, I imagine he would show great leadership with the bowl, coordinating all the flakes well from his position, showing elite skills to spoil any others players that wanted to piss in the bowl. Also able to piss longer than most other draftees, showing great endurance for his height.

He is the elite prospect Key Pissition Player we need...have been lacking in that department since we traded Fev.

I can't see a reason why we couldn't... though is unlikely.

Still not enough love for Ryan Clarke around this place.
I know you have a good eye for it sin but i think he could be a slider considering in the tac gf only managed 18 disposals against an opposition midfield with no one rated to go in the top 20.
I know it's only 1 game but unfortunately its the game that recruiters pay alot of attention to.

Would absolutely love it if Ryan Clarke slid to our second pick in the draft. Would be a great pickup IMO.:thumbsu:
