There will be 2 new Carlton players on the stage next month.............whilst another will be the very next pick. Will look somewhat odd :)

Really looking forward to having SOS on board also............and it has nothing to do with any romance. Just feel he'll be better than many think.

Oliver would be an amazing addition, but if there is a Francis/Weideman/Curnow slider at our pick 8, we would be crazy to pass on it.
The good thing is the only club with a pick between our two is Adelaide at 9, as GWS's Pick 10 will go on Hopper.

I reckon Adelaide will take the SA forward/mid in Burton, so we should be able to grab the slider AND Oliver if that's our preference.

So Saint (with pick 45+68) have a MAX value of 487 points to offer for Rice (without it impacting there 2016 draft)
487 covers ANY pick from round 3 onwards (i.e pick 37 Rd3 pick1 is worth 483)

So basically, anyone who bids on rice in the 2nd round will make saints move backwards in the 2016 draft.

Something I need clarity on is... they now dont have a 2nd rounder next year(freeman trade) so what pick will the AFL deduct the carry over from!?
Don't forget the 197 point discount. So their picks cover them for bids from pick 28 onwards. And their late picks will move up as the first round Academy bids roll in, which will probably improve their late picks by a handful of spots each as well.

As long as Rice doesn't attract a bid in the first round, they'll be fine.

Edit: Think your original count was a bit off too.

Picks 45 and 68, plus the 197 point discount would actually cover them for 603 points - or Pick 32 onwards. Once the draft order is revised for first round Academy bids they'll probably have the points in the bank to cover pick 26 onwards.

This points and academy shit is really annoying. Back in my day.. :$ /getoffmylawn
I haven't bothered trying to learn about it but I do really like one aspect of it.

Clubs with father/sons or academies have to spend points not places to get the good 'restricted' player.

This means that later picks are worth more packaged than single early picks.

Single early picks are more valuable to teams without F/S or academy looking to top up or to get the best non-restricted.

This creates a healthy, active trade market where once junk picks have value.

At this stage my preferences are:
1 - Weitering
8 - Curnow/Weideman/Burton (Adelaide are likely take him at pick 9)
11 - Oliver/Mathieson
19 - Gresham/Ryan Clarke

Pick 8 to take a key forward, hopefully one of Curnow or Weideman slide but otherwise Burton would be a great get. Might be a little undersized but from what I have seen he is a very talented/smart forward.

Pick 11 to take a natural ball winning midfielder. I've been sold on Oliver, he was asked who his favourite players are/who he models his game on and mentioned Rockliff and none other than a certain #9 in Blue.

Pick 19 to take a hard running skilful mid, when I watched a couple of Vic Metro games live Gresham was the standout player to me. Both of these players have good goal sense also.

Not sure if you can use Stick as example of a speculative tall. We have been into him since he was 16 and tried to get him over about 4 years earlier and he was a ready made gun from a different era.

If only we could bring in 3 AA's and solid KPD over the summer like the good old days.
Weitering, Curnow/Balic, Collins and Oliver - Job Done, now wait 3 years...

Yeah, I think the SA clubs, particularly Adelaide, are going to have a strong preference to local boys considering how much talent they've lost to the go home factor the last few years. Wayne Milera a strong chance to be taken by the Crows for their 1st pick I reckon.

No matter how this is done we seem to get some quality:) Would prefer Collins and Oliver and Clarke to better meet our needs.
Milera may have a go home risk.
Mathieson looks promising so no drama if we got him:D.

Dunkley for pick 19?

Cos if the Swans are tied up with Mills, they won't have the points for him or would be forced to go into deficit for 2016!

The most fascinating aspect to the draft is how Carlton & Adelaide will be thinking, given their picks of 8 & 11 / 9 & 13. (Noting, that GWS picks Hopper with #10.). This brings into question the Sth Aus boys expected to picked within that 8-13 range; Gun forward Ryan Burton & exciting mid/small fwd Wayne Milera.
I get the feeling we want Burton but can we afford not take him at #8 knowing that Adelaide are big chance to grab him at 8. The same situation with Milera also...

I wouldn't mind us jumping a little early on Collins and McKay with picks 8 and 11.

Collins, McKay and even Silvagni are all Victorians and December births with old man Weitering a November birth. :)

Clarke with pick 19 unless a Gresham, Dunkley or Oliver slide.

It's probably an awesome system. I'm just too thick to get my head around it lol.
