Surely there is a chance Weirering will end up a forward. You take a good forward over a good defender any day of the week. I think club will trial him both ends and if he does well as a forward it is possible he will stay there. It is year one in the rebuild so just because he goes forward not back doesn't mean we can't get another defender in the next few years.
I'd be worried playing him forward might Livingston him. I'd rather play him in his preferred position for a year or two, to get him comfortable at afl level before throwing him around.

AFL DRAFT (In order of preference. Obviously if one slips to next pick they would jump in front of order)
#1 -> Jacob Weitering
#8 -> Aaron Francis / Sam Weideman / Charlie Curnow / Wayne Milera
#11 -> Callum Ah Chee / Harley Balic / Kieran Collins / Harry Mckay
#19 -> Jade Gresham / Ryan Burton / Mitchell Hibberd / Daniel Rioli
#59 + #60 + 113 -> Jack Silvagni

ROOKIE:
Jake Bradley
Can't use pick 113 to get Jack... any left over points come out of our second rounder from next year.

Just watching a heap of Gresham footage. He is everywhere. Uses the ball well, not a big kick but not too bad, plenty of pace, knows where to run and how to get involved. Why is he being talked about at a low teens pick? Is it just height?

From what I just watched I want him ... a lot. I'd even take him earlier and get the other McKay later instead.
He was originally rated in the late 20's to early 30's before the combine. Then when he sparkled on the goal kicking and clean hands drills, his star started to rise. I think that they said he would go anywhere between 13 and 19.

I think that there are a few clubs who might reach for him in the low-mid teens.

I've only seen his youtube video but McKay compares to Tom Lynch at times... and then Hampson at other times.

What are our thoughts on him folks?
Had the same thoughts. What no. did we draft Hampson?

I would prefer Weiderman, Burton, Curnow or Francis if available at #8. But just as happy to grab a quality mid if everybody goes tall early.
Not so keen on McKay as he is a more risky project. Happy to try for Tomlinson next year if the best KPF's are already gone rather than take the risk on McKay coming good.

As carlton supporters, it surprises me that so many are keen on the 200cm McKay (and Schache) and 196cm weiderman and not much love for 191cm Burton ...

We had Fev at 191 who absolutely killed it as a power forward (tex walker about the same) and we have Krooz as an athletic 200cm player who is neither here nor there ... Not quite a ruckman, not a forward either..

Personally, I'd go the 191cm forward every time ... I'm actually hoping weiderman doesn't slide, and that we overlook McKay!

Id be stoked if we pick up Burton at 8.. Dont think he will last past Adelaide's next pick at 9..

Hard running, good places, the bones of an inside game.

His disposal and decision-making isn't a-grade from what I can see in that clip. But I reckon Clarke will make it on the back of sheer determination
I expect * will really want him. Would be a shock but not a complete surprise if they dropped #5 to get him:eek:

Not that it means anything but Burton had a broken leg. You're talking about a kid about to turn 19 who has missed an entire season of footy.

As a youtube recruiter, may I say

Get McKay!

Harry covers the ground pretty well for a big guy. More coordinated than Hampson, better work ethic than Jones, quicker than Rowe, better mark than Warnock, better kick than Casboult.

For needs, we lack tall forwards having lost Waite, Henderson and Watson and I expect to delist Warnock, Wood, Jones and Rowe within 48 months and Freo wanting to trade for Casboult.

pick 11 might be a reach but I doubt he'll slide to 19. Other forward options (WeedyMan, Burton, Curnow) may be 'better' but the potential to ruck is something we should consider as a package.
I know nothing about the kid but, frankly, he could have all those skills listed and stlll be a below average footballer...

Playing him fwd would not be an issue.
You need to understand that this bloke is a genuine gun no matter what position he plays

Can use it if nobody else bids and we have a list spot
That is corrent... we just can't use it if no one bids on SOSOS before I think it's pick 37 because it carries 0 points. We could use it as a rookie upgrade pick. So if we get SOSOS for 59... we can either use 60 and 113 for rookie upgrades, or just 60...

We drafted Hampson with pick 17.. at the time that was an end of first round priority pick.

A little mock I whipped up..

1. CARL Jacob Weitering – Carlton need A-grade KPP options, and Weitering comes with strong leadership credentials.
Other options: Schache

2. BRIS Josh Schache – Need a genuine KPF.
Other options: Weitering

3. MELB Darcy Parish – A quick midfielder who will add a point of difference to Melbourne’s hard nose midfielders like Jones, Brayshaw and Viney.
Other options: Weideman, Francis

4. ESS Sam Weideman – A much needed KPF to complement Daniher.
5. ESS Aaron Francis – Versatile leader who projects as a Goddard/Heppell-esque utility.
Other options: Parish, Milera, Curnow, Oliver, H.McKay

6. GC Mitchell Hibberd – The tall long kicking athletic runner that Clayton and Eade tend to fetishize.
Other options: Milera, Curnow, Bonner, Tucker

7. MELB Wayne Milera – Adds class across half-forward and through the midfield.
Other options: Curnow, H.McKay, Tucker

8. CARL Charlie Curnow – Ready to go versatile FWD/MID who can provide a much needed avenue to goal. Dare I say it an ‘explosive beast’.
Other options: Weideman, H.McKay, Oliver, Mathieson, Tucker

9. ADE Harry McKay – Has the attributes of Gold Coast’s Tom Lynch, a second tall who should complement Tex Walker.
Other options: Mathieson, Tucker, Oliver

10. GWS Jacob Hopper – Academy selection
Other options: Kennedy

11. CARL Clayton Oliver – Adds much needed grunt and depth to Carlton’s threadbare midfield. Should help in easing the load on Cripps in the future.
Other options: H.McKay, Mathieson, Tucker, Gresham, Burton

12. RICH Rhys Mathieson – The tough and determined on-baller that Richmond are crying out for.
Other options: Oliver, Dunkley, Gresham

13. ADE Darcy Tucker – Can add much needed run and carry which seems to be an area that Adelaide are trying to address this off season.
Other options: Bonner, Clarke

14. STK Harley Balic – Midfield class and depth.
Other options: Burton, B.McKay, Collins, Clarke

15. HAW Kieran Collins – Future replacement for Lake, Gibson et al.
Other options: B.McKay, Burton, Himmelberg, Partington

16. GC Riley Bonner – Another tall athletic long kicking runner. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a third tall in the vein of Howe or Everitt.
Other options: Burton, Himmelberg

17. NTH Ryan Burton – Could play early on as a shorter KPF like Stringer/Gunston. North should plan for a future without Petrie and Waite. Pace and goal kicking options are their current needs.
Other options: Gresham, Ah Chee, Bonner, Clarke, B.McKay

18. HAW Jade Gresham – A reliable mid that could take over from Mitchell.
Other options: Burton, Himmelberg, Partington, Ah Chee, Clarke, Rioli

19. CARL Callum Ah Chee – A goal kicking half-forward with pace that creates another avenue to goal.
Other options: Gresham, Burton, Clarke, Bonner, Rioli, Himmelberg
