McKay first, then you guys take Milera and we takr Curnow.
Thought you may play it that way ......but if Carlton believe we will take Curnow over Milera, which is a possibility .....do you still opt to go McKay over Curnow ?

OK. Wait. HOLD ON!

Before we go any further

Watson + McCarthy is not comparable to Weitering + Collins

First of all, Weitering is the best player in the draft, so on his own he is worth no.1

Second of all, Weitering and Collins have chemistry on the field, we have seen them out there, working off of eachother, forming a partnership, for BOTH Vic Country AND Dandenong Stingrays. Watson and McCarthy NEVER played together as juniors.

I definitely think we will take McKay first as there is no way he gets past you guys. If you take Curnow with your first then we will take Milera (both of us will then have a player from each other's state that has a question mark over the go home factor).

Not sure why people are so keen on this?
This is exactly what people were thinking when we drafted Watson and McCarthy in 2010.

Just because they played juniors together doesn't really mean they'll translate to an awesome partnership in the AFL and Weitering will form a good partnership with whoever else we have.

Would hate the idea of using 2 top 19 picks on 2 KPD's, simply due to historical evidence that a lot of good KPD's in the AFL can be found at later picks and traded for cheaply, where as the gun forwards and mids are often high draft picks and cost a fortune at the trade table.

Its also not necessarily a good thing to have your FB and CHB the exact same age/draft.

the truth is we don't know until they are tested at afl level. the signs so far are pretty good. if we drafted both and they worked out we would have a very impressive defence for a long while to come. think pert/roos more than watson/mccarthy. ;)

I'm happy to take Collins if he were to be there at 19 but don't want to pick him any earlier than that. If you look at the best key defenders in the league, how many were actually taken in the top 15?

8 of the last 10 AA FB/CHBs were top 20 picks - if it were that easy to find quality at later picks Rowe wouldn't be running around with us.

Which quality KPDs have been traded for cheaply? Don't assume Hawks success at attracting players will mean we can plug holes at will. Buddy and Dangerfield cost their new clubs salary space only - it's no easier or harder to attract quality players in any position, but I wouldn't be relying on it.

McGovern just broke out as a KPD in his 5th season - whoever we take will need time. Setting up our backline now, does have its appeal.

McKay is exactly the type we need to draft.

Casboult is best as your stay at home full forward whereas McKay is really just an amazing athlete for his size. Much like Lynch of the Suns he's a good mover and a great mark. Plus the Crows seem super keen at 9 so best we take the forward without any injury issues/arrests while we can.

Will have to get used to pronouncing it 'McKye' though

Wouldn't it just be easier for Harry to change the way he pronounces it?

Just seems more efficient than getting all of us to change instead...

1. Jacob Weitering
8. Kieran Collins
11. Harry McKay
19. Clayton Oliver
You've gone soft Sheik. Whatever happened to stockpiling KPPs??? Oliver's not tall enough to swap spit with a camel in a sandstorm, let alone approach one from the rear and determine if it needs one hump or two. Delist.

Absolutely.

Even by just comparing a #1 and a top #15 prospect to a top #20 prospect (latter even given compromised draft) and a late #30s selection.

Weitering and Collins would be a fantastic combination.

What if all this time Weitering has been making Collins look a lot better than he is? Something to seriously ponder..

The Druggies may scuttle some of our draft plans at picks 4 & 5 :

The Bombers have four selections inside the top 25 picks, including No. 4 and 5, and new coach John Worsfold said before his side's first full training session of the pre-season that increasing his list's forward firepower would be essential.

Essendon has considered draft prospects Sam Weideman and Harry McKay, and is also still considering Charlie Curnow, younger brother of Carlton's Ed Curnow, despite his arrest last week in Geelong for refusing a breath test.

Well maybe he could make him look better than he is at AFL level?

Some doubles tennis champions are middling players in their own rights, but in a cohesive team they are winners
