This talk of trading Yarran. At 24 and with his talent in a side competing and with a good culture = superstar for, at the least, the next 6 years. We would want a massive massive massive ****ing deal for him. Big Picks and big players. Would hate to see us get robbed because we are having a desperate fire sale.

We need the best players available and we need plenty.

GWS also recruited Callan Ward, Chad Cornes, James McDonald, Luke Power and later big Mummy to teach the young boys what it really takes to be successful.

We can have all the high draft picks you like and could still end up like Melbourne (and seemingly Gold Coast) if we don't have the right leaders in the playing group.

Note the old saying - "Be careful what you wish for"

This is why it is so frustrating reading the ins and outs on this board... People wanting Carrots dropped every week, when he really is our only vocal leader out there! We need some big bodies in there taking the hits... Think of them as sacrifices for the greater good!

As I mentioned on the first page, we have to use our first rounder on a KPP. They naturally take longer to develop. Our midfield isn't actually that bad... We seem to be getting clearances most weeks and off the top of my head might be in the top half of the comp in that stat.

We need to start preparing our list for next year, how do we do that?

Step 1: Clear out the obvious on the list - Thanks for your service Watson, Jones (might get another year, contract?), Tutt, Armfield, Ellard.

Step 2: Tough calls need to be made on the following senior players - Judd, Carrazzo, Simpson. I think we need 2 of these 3 to play next year.

Step 3: Where are these guys at? Will they help us out in the short term with long term replacement in mind? Walker, Thomas, Warnock, White, Rowe, Jamison, Tuohy, Curnow, Casboult.

Step 4: Jury is out on these young guys, put it out to them that one/two of you will be delisted at years end, you now play for your career: Foster, Giles, Holman, Dick, Graham, Buckley, Whiley. These guys have been listed previously, this is why I choose these guys.

Now that you have cleaned the list out - Who has trade value on our list worth 1st or 2nd round minimum?

Murphy, Gibbs, Walker, Thomas, Jamison, Yarran, Henderson, Kreuzer, Everitt (just), Casboult, Bell, Docherty, Menzel, Cripps, Jaksch.

Untouchables of the above list?

It is harder than you think. We only have 13 senior listed players have played over 100 games. We have 15 senior listed players who are under the age of 23, 3 of which have played 20 games or more (Watson, Docherty, Menzel). It is a fine balance of keeping quality to develop quality and trading quality to trade in unproven quality.

Just to give you an idea of our 23-27 group of players: Gibbs, Henderson, Kreuzer, Everitt, Yarran, Jones, Casboult, Bell, Ellard, Tutt, Watson, Whiley. Not much here...

The way I see it, finals are out of the question, so we need to rotate on a 3 (minimum) game basis, the "Jury is out on these young guys" against the "Where are these guys at?" group. We are at round 8. We have plenty of the year to go before thinking of external recruits. Let's see what we have right NOW. Give these guys a chance to prove why they should be at Carlton next year and moving forward.

If we can get pick 2 for Kreuzer leaving surely we'd say goodbye [emoji24]

Trade both Murphy and Gibbs - should get picks just inside the top 10 for both... teams wanting some cream and pushing for finals. Say picks 8 and 9

Trade Henderson - late first round pick - Pick 15

Trade Kruezer - pick bw 20-25 - day pick 23

We would end up with picks 1,8,9,15,19,23

Sack Malthouse, Mckay or anyone else involved with list and development. Start again.

You'd be prepared to let Murphy go for pick 8? The Bulldogs got Tom Boyd for Ryan Griffen.

agree with this 100% Imagine Yazz running around for say, a Hawthorn, or a Freo? He would be absolutely devastating

And I dare say not in a back pocket.....

Didn't the dogs also add their 1st round pick (3/4?)
I don't remember the exact deal, but Murphy is certainly worth more than pick 8, particularly given this year's draft is supposedly lacking depth.

I wouldn't be trading Murphy, but if it did happen, I would expect no less than pick 5 for him. He is currently our best player & will be for at least another couple of years & then in the twilight years of his career will be a very dangerous small forward, capable of kicking 40+ goals a year.

No to Murph and our 1st for Patten...

Glad your not running the place.

I am actually thinking that we should ask the afl for a compensation pick. We won't win another game and are a real risk of becoming extinct. We lose Judd and Carazzo & Simpson plus the delisting of half the team. The AFL will be worried about our decline and the crowds and loss of marketing power.

We can't go trading another first round pick, this board will go into meltdown.
Totally different proposition with a likely top 3 pick than last year but the club need to keep all options open - I'd be happy for the club to give up a pick 2/3 if SOS can pull a Shiel/Treloar plus steak-knives deal from GWS. Highly unlikely but would take the young proven gun talent over potential

Obviously in a perfect world the next coach gets a say on what he sees as priority gets in draft and trade this year.

In a perfect world we only lose Judd this year as well as Carrazzo ( no biggie at all) - and we keep Henderson who becomes the CHB for Carlton and solves that problem once and for all. So the task becomes replacing Judd.

Complications arise if the Club believes that Yarran is gone next year same for Menzel but I don't rate menzel anywhere near Yarran or Henderson. Henderson is THE key resigning challenge.

If Chris Yarran wants out- then there is probably enough currency to score a strong mid or a strong forward in exchange ie Judd is replaced or we add a power forward. Menzel is top up for a contender at best.

Another year of development for kids during the year, another set of good draft picks and trades and we continue to build.

Muck around with low currency players like Warnock as you like but they wont add much in trade table.

As for Kreuzer my favourite Blue- well he has time to prove fitness and fire for the rest of the year. He owes the Club and he knows it.

The list we have is much much better than Malthouse coaching and game plan whatever it is - allows to show.

I have every confidence that a new coach, with the right support staff around him, with fresh ideas meaning ANY idea would make this list play better in short time.

SOS and sensible development will take care of the rest.

Top 3 pick you dont mess with and shoukd simply take best available, 2nd round pick take a KPP, 3rd Rice, 4th SOSOS, 5th Mature aged ruck.

Also does not appear to be a stand out key forward in this years draft which is annoying, hopefully one announces himself during the national carnival.

We should not make one more list decision until everyone associated with the decision to recruit Dale Thomas has been driven out of the club.

2.8 million for 4 years?

Think about that and tell me why we couldn't keep Eddie.

Putrid organisation.
