List Mgmt. 2015 AFL Draft

I'm thinking we might see a surprise selection by Carlton with Schache at #1. With so many picks inside 20 they might look to sort out their forward line for a decade with Schache and Weideman taken with their first two selections. Then they might aim for K Collins as a key back with some attacking traits to go with that GWS kid they just took. Can't recall his name but wasn't traded due to inability, just too much competition.
If they do take Weideman I'm personally going commit to following him and constantly booing so he has an excuse to cross to us once his first two years are up.
They won't take The Shack. Sos is inlove with Weitering. In hindsight because it's Carlton and they butcher everything they touch, they will probably wished they did take Schache in a few years down the track.

I don't care what they do, as long as they do it badly.

I just hope to God they don't spend any time putting together a tactical plan for the draft.
Let's hope SOS' time at GWS has imprinted on his recruiting style the
importance and value of first round
picks being used to recruit gunshot
pattern style.
For example we don't want to see them recruiting with oh, let's call it an
'outcome' being apparent. I'd much
prefer to see them recruit a little of
everything rather than taking say
Weitering, Weideman and one of the
McKay's.
A top quality spine can always be found
later on and in the Rookie draft.

Promise.

If there's one area I don't second guess our clubs expertise in, it's drafting. Not only have we consistently nailed first
round picks and found gems later on.
We've also gone in with specific
strategies and stuck to them.
Apart from Grundy sliding to our first
pick in '12 and using an extra pick or two in '13 we haven't walked out of any
drafts without deviating from the plan. At least not that I remember.

No chance that Carlton overlook Weitering.

Doubt That. The be able to get a Tall Forward at 9. Harry McKay be most Likely

FWIW, our pick drops out of the top 30 due to all the academy picks -
[in their mock, pick 30 is North's, meaning we would be picking at 31].

And I bet we did not get Mentioned

Forced by the Player and be Stupid not to do a Trade but I am saying there is no Rule that says you Have to do a Trade

There's no rule saying you have to wipe your arse but you'd be a filthy idiot not to. ;)

I'm not sure why Dave's comments are generating so much angst. He's 100% correct in what he's saying. Trading was the sensible thing for GWS to do under the circumstances but they would have been quite within their rights to say sod off, it is off to the draft for you Mr Treloar OR you can sign with us OR you can go to the club we choose.

Interesting live mock draft 'Top 30' podcast with Twomey and Sando:
http://www.afl.com.au/draft/road-to-the-draft

Even though they didn't quite get to us I found this live mock really interesting and having Sando (who would have an intimate knowledge of these kids) in there giving his thoughts and rationales on the selections was great.

As for the selections; Burton was long gone (sorry Matt_352), Riolo gone, Fiorini gone (Essendon 28), Partington gone.

They matched 4 academy picks (Mills, Kennedy, Keays, Hipwood), didn't treat Dunkley as a father son (Dogs at 24) and they didn't match the Himmelberg bid (Nth at 30). Upshot was our first pick would have been 31.

Who they left out who might come into play for us were:

Ryan Clarke, Aidyn Johnson, Mason Redman, Alex Morgan, Blake Hardwick, Cunningham, Crocker, Kieren Lovell; just to name a few off the top of my head.

Very interesting insight.

Where did they have Burton and Rioli going?

Yeah, enjoyed it too. Thanks for the summary - I lost track of the picks for a bit in the middle.
I haven't read up too much on players, but there seems to still be some talent there when we pick.

No angst here, just having a bit of a joke. :)

But what I actually disagreed with was the suggestion that GWS were willing to consider trading Treloar because of the quality of their academy kids. They were 'willing' to trade Treloar because there's having a choice and then there's not making a really bad choice. Losing a player for nothing, basically on principle, is self-defeating to the point of being moronic. A bit like foresaking toilet paper... I mean, sure, it's your right to do that but it also makes you nuts.

For all their bluster, Brisbane realised the exact same thing with Aish. It's the difference between being technically correct and how the world really works 99% of the time.

It would make sense if they did take Shache at pick 1, could nab Collins at pick 11. Would set up both ends for a decade.

Where did they have Burton and Rioli going?
Burton - Carlton @ 13
Rioli - West Coast @ 27.

Hopper bid was matched as well (pick 6, one before Kennedy).

Really good insight indeed.

Here's the full list from their mock:

Not that excited about this years draft, main reason being most of the first round picks are academy players. Such bullshit. And the number of these academy players is going to increase every year, that's the worst part.
