Alex Browne is the man for me to come into the seniors next year and do some damage. Good all round game, physically ready and will upgrade us on a Howlett, Hocking even Stanton in a different role.

Jason Ashby is the one who I have reasonably high hopes for. Never seems to be fazed and consistently played well in the reserves this year despite vying in a position we have a wealth of depth in, hope next year we use his versatility elsewhere at VFL level that may see him in the seniors sooner rather than later.

As for our much vaunted GWS trade, Kurt Aylett played some riveting football earlier this year, but tapered off in the second half of the year. If he were to come into the seniors it would continue on with our one paced midfield so yours truly hopes that the other half of this trade can come into his own in 2015 and beyond.

I also still have reasonably high hopes for EKav despite stagnating in 2013/14. You can see the glimpses, just need to polish off his all round game defensively and he will bring a different inside role to our midfield as a Jobe replacement in 12 - 24 months as that first/second touch player that releases team mates into space.
Lol Ashby. Rewatch round 4 please.

No I suppose it doesn't.. Although one of those years was in a GWS squad that needed to blood everyone.. and one was lost to injury and then this was his first at a new club and trying to learn a new role..

I'm just not sure we should be writing him off just yet.

I am being realistic - Edwards may come out of the clouds - But its unlikely - It doesn't help that Edwards has been hyped - Then again this is BF.

I'm not convinced. Him locking a spot next year wouldn't surprise me and him falling behind others would be equally unsurprising.

Still not sure what type of player he is, what he's physically suited, etc.

I wonder whether he can develop the endurance to be one of the wings we want so badly.

I agree with Bruno - I can see Jackson playing 100 games but at what level ?

I am more confident that Ashby will have a better career than Jackson.

Because heaps of players dominate their second game of AFL against one of the best teams in the AFL.
Just signs I saw I didnt like but as I said at the time it can be something taught so he can work on that and become such a player. I just cant see how ppl can call him a composed calm footballer from what ive seen at such a level.

FWIW id develop Ashby as an outside run with player. Someone that can go with Hills, I.Smiths, Sidebottom and Hanneberry or similar types

J Merrett played an excellent game early in the year.. but then had that injury and never really seemed to have another run at it.

With a strong pre-season under his belt.. I can see him absolutely streaking past guys like Howlett and Kommer.. and claiming a spot in the best 22.

Has some pace, not Colyer fast, but not plodding either.. great skills both hand and foot and great footy smarts.. makes good decisions most of the time.

Any young kid who can come in and win a 'BOG' a couple of times (he had two games last year that were awesome) then I think has 'it'. Just a matter of finding consistency and getting the body right.

Jason is a 'smarts' type of player. Someone who will be in the right place at the right time. He did a number in defence a couple of times this VFL season including a near BOG against VFL goal kicking machine Ben Warren.

I've seen Pendlebury, Heppell and many other calm and composed footballers rush into things against Ross Lyon coached teams, let alone a 2nd gamer. His composure is his biggest asset at VFL level. You're basing this off 1 game, against the best defensive pressure side in the AFL, in the blokes 2nd game.

Not fast enough to run with those guys. He's not slow but he's not quick.

Yeh fair enough. Im.prepared to give him another go for sure. It wasnt jist based off that game but also the game against carlton as I said its something he can learn and work.on and as vfl followers im glad to hear it actually might be his strength just needs to show it afl level sooner rather than later but he has time.

Yeh but surely he could go with guys like Sidebottom, Hanneberry, Scully. Kornes isnt exactly quick either but does a number on these types of guys including the hills.

Hannebery's speed is underrated. Melksham is the best suited to those types anyway, Ashby I can't make a comparison (none really spring to mind) but he's a smart footballer with good leadership, composure and skills. Not overly strong overhead, but his hands below his knees are top notch. Kind of like Welsh with better skills and composure.

Best 22 at this stage would be;-

Fletch Hooker Baguley
Hibberd Hurley Goddard
Colyer Watson Myers
Zaharakis Carlisle Z.Merrett
Chapman Daniher Winders

Ryder Heppell Hocking

Bench: Dempsey Stanton Ambrose TBell

No doubt this will change several times before the 2015 season with delistings, trades etc etc

Bags - Hooker - Hibberd
Gleeson - Hurley - Winder
Colyer - Watson - Zaka
Ambrose - Daniher - Zac Merrett
Kommer - Carlisle - Chappy

Ryder - Hocking - Heppel

Goddard - Myers - Browne - Jackson Merrett

Fletcher - Fantasia - Howlett

All of a sudden Browne missing most if not all of the season makes him a best 22 player next year.

Oh Bigfooty you never let me down.

Sometimes i think players should miss 2-3 years in a row just so they can become one of the best players in the comp.

FWIW I only mentioned him as my most likely after displaying almost all the attributes of a good AFL player.

Been surprised by how many people have Carlisle playing in the backline... Surely people would like to see what further development he has in him as a forward?! If he can monster poor defenses now, who's to say he wont be monstering good defenses after another preseason? I would be shattered if we don't see him up forward next season. If JD, Carlisle and Ryder start to get a lot of game time together and really click, then we will be as good as anyone...

It's more that fitting Ryder, Daniher, Bellchambers and Carlisle into one team is difficult, unless he plays back.

Non-Issue - All four will not play in the same team.

So who leaves? None of that four will be happy as depth.

In any case, all four did play together on a number of occasions this season, twice with Carlisle in defence.

The expectation was that T-Bell may leave at the end of 2015 - AS long as Thompson/Hird are happy to play JD as back up ruck, that means all four won't play in the same team - And it doesn't work.
