Francis certainly showed him a thing or two, he only kicked 6 goals.

Francis got a lesson on how zoning off your opponent you can get hurt the other way.

I watched that game live and that match up very closely. Francis outplayed Schache but was burnt when his teammates turned it over and allowed the quick rebound. Schache bludged out the back and I don't think he picked up one goal on Francis that was an earned goal.

I watched the game as well, not live obviously but Francis was punished for his desire to zone off his opponent. I also thought that Francis got angry at himself that game and dropped his bundle a little.
We have different thoughts on that game and that is what makes these phantom drafts interesting.

Not sure that's entirely accurate. I was just watching highlights of Schache in that game the other day- it looks like he clearly burns Francis on the lead at 6:30 (replayed at 7:30). Does it again a bit later, but the kick only gets to him on the bounce.

I know, highlights. I just thought that goal really stood out.

Top 14% of the combine if that helps with your write ups.

Thought so, to the naked eye he does look like he's got pretty long arms so this backs that up even if it's not an exact measurement. I guess it makes him more of a genuine KP height too, I know I'd prefer someone to measure in at 191 with long arms than 196 with short arms.

Pick 14 Harry McKay 24/12/1997 - 200.1cm 94.5kg

He is going to be a long term project and with Chol, I've taken two semi ruck/forward players. I love the way he presents on a lead with the ability to mark at full pace. Lovely left footer and his testing results looked worse than he plays and his game speed and agility look stronger for a player his size. Very strong below his knees for a 200cm player and I see him playing more forward than ruck.

As promised, here's a clown to express my feelings about your selection:

Pick 15 Richmond:
# 15 Richmond - Clayton Oliver

187cm, 86kg
DOB: 22/7/1997
State: Vic Country
Tea: Murray Bushrangers
Inside Midfielder

Morrish Medalist Clayton Oliver is off to Richmond with Pick 15 in the 2015 Big Footy Phantom Draft.

Oliver is a contested hard nut playing as an inside midfielder for the Murray Bushrangers. Oliver was picked in the original Vic Country squad of 52 before the U18 Championships- However Oliver missed the final squad applying his trade instead at Richmond VFL & TAC Cup level.

Oliver is an aggressive midfielder who propels the ball forward with his long boot. He averaged 24 disposals, just over 6 clearances & 14 contested possessions per game. Throughout the TAC Cup season, he also kicked 20 goals in 16 games for the season. Oliver is a stoppage king and is one of the better inside midfielders in the draft. A strength of Oliver is his handballing in stoppages which allows for him to clear the ball from the contest helping his team move forward. Oliver also averaged 6 tackles a game for Murray & is a fierce competitor playing on the inside. His aggressive approach can sometimes cost him when he goes in too hard, tackling opposition players high resulting in some free kicks against- However his tackling in the final for Murray single handedly nearly got them over the line against Oakleigh.

Oliver screams out 'Pick me' after his impressive year- The fact that nobody picked him in the last Big Footy Phantom shows how quickly he has developed and come on as a prospect. There is a big chance that Oliver makes into the Top 10 on draft night with Essendon, Melbourne & Gold Coast all interested.

Oliver hardly completed a preseason for Murray and had been injured earlier in the year with OP. A few question marks have appeared on Oliver's endurance/body size, but I believe all Oliver needs is a few preseasons under his belt to develop in an AFL environment & is a player I firmly believe could be one of the better from the 2015 draft crop after his rapid development since April.

Combine testing results:
20m- 2.99sec
Agility- 8.11sec (third overall)
3km- 10.45min
Goalkicking- 30 out of 30. (equal first)

Best game?

TAC Cup vs Bendigo Pioneers
Disposals: 27 (85% efficiency)
Contested possessions: 13
Clearances: 6 (4 Throw In, 2 Ball Ups)
Tackles: 8
Goals: 6
Inside 50s: 4

Highlights:

Edwards and McKenna have some attributes similar to milera I reckon.
Laverde will play forward wing midfield.
Langford forward midfield.
I have already selected rice who is a beautiful user of the ball at that 184cm mark who can play half forward and half back.
I would have liked a midfielder at 5 or 7 but only hopper, mills and parish are worth it.
I am not sold on milera being a midfielder.
All in all Francis and Curnow too good to pass up.
I agree with you about Oliver. He can become a very capable mid at afl level.

The biggest thing for me is getting a high level utility late in the draft is significantly less than another inside midfielder (probably the easiest position to fill in draft talk).

Would we prefer;
Francis, Curnow, Partington, Gresham

Or

Francis, Milera, Skinner, Lovell

??

I know which one I would take

The ball is coming out with SA. Francis moves up to be available. The ball turns over on the wing and comes back reasonably quickly and Francis scrambles to re-establish contact but is not able to get back when Schache makes a nice little lead out to the open side. Francis has closed the space but just can't quite get there.

What you don't see is the number of times Francis outmarked Schache by playing in front.

Watson, hocking, Myers, Heppell, bird, OBrien all inside capable
When you are where we are at you just draft the best player available. I put a premium on kicking skills with our mids. Of our midfielders only Myers and Goddard are elite kicks of the footy.
I rate rice top 25 in the draft so that turns into pick 28 or 29 with academy picks. Rice has terrific kicking skills and has a frame that will develop.
I will be interested to see who nominates him in the national draft.

That's what I saw as well and I have question marks on how well Schache will be able to compete at AFL level when he is required to run defensively. I like him as a prospect but has a lot of work to do.

I picked Schache at number 2 so I do rate him. He has a lot going for him but I was just pointing out something which I thought was really evident when matched up on Francis. Wait and see how he goes but I am sure there will be plenty of AFL backs who play in front when they match up on him.

Who did you want? BF's favourite child Oliver?
So LM given that it is going to be a quiet day can you please explain why you didn't pick Oliver? You went Milera and H. McKay. Mathieson went in the middle. Most people speculate that we will have the choice of these four players although some speculate that Oliver will go earlier. Why did you let him pass? I know we need a decent KPF, but we need quality players everywhere.

Geez Weitering milera and McKay is a nice bounty boys.
I probably would have grabbed a pure midfielder instead of McKay here but it is hard to argue against a 200cm talented athlete like McKay.
Harry would not have been around at 23 so had to strike now.
