What this year has proved is that planning for Byes 12 Rounds early at the start of the season, and with early trades, is pointless. Had 18+ players each Round at the start of the year but injuries have put the sword to that.

Totally agree, if it wasn;t for Lever I would have 18 or more players each week, and I only started planning about a month ago. If I new Krak was going to come back in I would have held him and would have been sweet.

Only planning I did at the start for byes, was to make my 50/50 choices easier. Always went with the premo that suited my byes better if I couldn't decide

You really only need to start bye planning about 5 rounds out, I didn't pay any attention to byes up until R7 and I'll end up with 19+ each week.

I haven't had any injuries, and it really isn't pointless. Making sure your premiums don't all have the same bye is pretty essential for me. When I pick premiums I assume I'll have them in my side for the year, so the byes need to be fairly balanced.

I agree pick your premiums with the byes in mind then just pick the best available for the rest.

I pretty much pick the best available team but try not to have too many players from the same team, whatever I do there's usually one bye round where I'm short of players which is this round for me.

I'd rather just sacrifice one bye round than not pick the best available team for the rest of the season.

Why? Whether a Premo scores well in Round 11 or Round 12 is irrelevant. You'll still get their score the other week.

I have no idea how you've managed to avoid all of GAJ, Wines, Bartel, Lamb, Lambert, Salem, Heeney, Clark, J Martin, Gray, Sloane, CEY, Saad, Laird, McKenzie, Rockliff, Mummy (that I can recall), but hats off to you.

Hats off to you.
Because I like to field 18 odd in every bye round and gain places? I have my locks that I definitely want to pick (This year was Martin, Selwood, Houli, Pendles etc.) and then pick the others to even out the byes.

And I forgot, I had Bartel and Rockliff who were both injury trades.

**** the Byes! Always pick BPA at the start and trade with byes in mind 4-6 weeks prior.

That's my first rule in SC.

How would avoiding Saad and Laird be beneficial? Arguably the two best picks of the year

Laird has played every game?

I have had 11/16 there.

Oh and Rocky traded out TWICE, and in once. Goodbye 3 trades.

Really hoping 1700 is the par this week, otherwise im due for a dip in overall.

Try reading the post in full before replying next time, it'll make you look less silly.

Yeah you're right on Lairdy. I thought he missed one, but he just missed three quarters with concussion but did actually play the next week :thumbsu:

LOL. Just asked my wife how her team was going through Byes and she said she hasn't looked at it for a few weeks because she's been too busy with our newborn. Sigh.
Thought I'd check out how she's looking for next week.

Could be problematic.

Any M/F playing in the mids?

Nope, only Lambert. Although the rest of the ground looks good for Round 13.

I rolled my eyes when I saw Sloane on the bench with no E this week.

Bloody kids. They always get in the way. My fault for not prompting her I suppose.

She has 20 trades left, so probably not all as disaterous as first thought.

I paid no attention to the byes at all when I picked my team, never looked at the fixture.

heck the byes, I hate them along with the stinking sub rule.

Has really ruined SC for me I reckon. I just don't enjoy it as much as what I used to.

i took a risk. had too.
about 5 rounds out from byes i was way down on trades. to the point i had no choice had to 'make each trade more valuable'
i attach 100k value to any defender with dpp.
flexibility has helped a lot last 2 weeks. 1950, 1825 scores.
with no trades this week i will have used 4 for the bye rounds and perhaps gained back ground on those who didnt cop ablett, sloane wines rockliff etc.
i was never in contention once all those bad picks went down.
but i feel the dpp has really helped. as not many other folks have had the f/d guys in higgins mcgovern and goddard.

Higgins has been a god damned gun mate.

I had him last year? I think it was last year. And he was frustrating as hell.

Could never repeat.

....But I wish I did.

Higgins over either Ibbotson or Burgoyne would have made my team a lot stronger.

McGov has been good too. Looks like he could become a lock as a defender in future seasons.

was always going to happen. north has way to many insidish mids not many outside guys.
hence boomer playing until hes 90
higgins had all the attributes we required. especially with wells + dal santo injuries.
hes a great kick and a quality outside runner.
i mean we play sam gibson each week. need to make ground on the skills in other positions.

Higgins was good last year, started around $250k, I remember trading him out at a touch over $420, and he dipped a little from there.

The years before he wouldn't have been any good.

what i find interesting is that even with his great season.
dogs have so many similar players not sure if hed stayed hed be in the team.
massive win for the kangas getting him in.
not a massive loss for the dogs.
i find this odd

I guess Norf needed a B-grade swingman more than we did.

We have Roberts that can do that now (although he's been MAINLY played down back as we don't need the FWD part as much now).

The problem with Higgins at the Dogs was that we needed him to be someone that he's not, a CHF or CHB. We've got a ton of guys that can play the flank and pocket roles at either end that Higgins was playing.

I think he's better in a "stronger" side as well, his finger doesn't get strained from pointing as much.
