Listened to Luke Ball on the radio today. Strikes me as being a bit smarter than the average footballer, not that it's too hard. I really think he could have a very good role in midfield development and there maybe a hole the size of the Grand Canyon in our midfield development.
think luke ball will more than likely move into the football admin side of things. Wouldnt be suprised if he became president of the AFLPA before possibly high up in a AFL managerial role

Scotto, Lappin & Cox would be great additions to the coaching panel in different capacities.

I like the idea of somebody like Cox taking up a dual role as rookie player/assistant coach. I think it would benefit both our ruckmen and our young midfielders to have someone like him to work with and learn from.

As far as any further additions go i would prefer them to come from outside of Carlton, at least those working closely with the senior group. I can see that Scotland may be good in a role with the NBs but as far as Lappin goes i don't see any advantage in going down that path again. I prefer we steer away from ex Carlton players at this stage where there is such an emphasis on change around the club.

For those speculating about Wiley's future i very much doubt he will be going anywhere as long as Mick wants him there and quite apart from that i think he has been good, i see no reason why he should go.

It's always hard to say with coaches. Just because you are a good player does not necessarily make you a good coach. It's easy for us to say 'get Cox' but how on earth does anyone know of his capabilities. Sometimes it's the players who have had to do the hard yards and work tirelessly on their game to get up to standard that make the best coaches, because they know what it's like to have had to work from such a low base.

It's hard to speculate as to who should go, our coaches had very little to work with this year.

I've always wanted the club to invest in a talls coach.

For years we've always had tall players who could play alright but had problems when it came to approaching marking contests, using their bodies, not getting to the right spots, not really having any tricks when it comes to timing leads and losing opponents on the lead etc.

I'd love to get Wayne Carey as he's got an excellent record as a part time tutor when it comes to turning good players into great players. If he's not available then perhaps a Jonathan Brown or a Stewart Lowe would be handy to have around as a specialist development coach.

Cox was ruck coach at Eagles this year, Lycett improved out of sight (may be natural development, but think not).
He has actually been their midfield general for a number of years, much more than your average ruckman. Can't get any
more recent as a player, which we need to complement our old school coaching panel.
Decent forward too, anything he brings as a player is just a massive bonus. Sure he would love to get to 300.

Would give Cox a go as a coach, would rookie him as well unless someone else comes up, always good to have on field instruction, particularly in the VFL. With injuries he may play a role in the AFL side at times as well.

Cox could be our Ottens who we keep fresh for finals :P

I think Ryan O'keefe would be a good one to look at bringing in as an assistant. He is a good thinker, and has talked about the importance of setting up a good culture and how he enjoyed being part of that at the Swans. He has mentioned that he would like to get into coaching too.

Maybe, like Cox, a playing coach for a year or two.

What have you seen that makes you think that?

I have heard him speak many times and have been impressed with what he has had to say.

I also know that he has worked closely with players who have shown improvement including Levi.

People around the club including the players seem to rate him and appreciate what he brings to the table, i certainly haven't heard anything of a negative nature.

Thanks for the reply. If Wiley failed in any of the 3 areas you mentioned he would be proven not up to the task IMO so I have assumed he had the qualities you mentioned. My question really is what have you seen that suggests we can't do better?

Ayres has long had his time in the AFL coaching fraternity. Would he want to play 2nd fiddle to Mick?

No idea about the other two.

Your correct, Gary has been head coach b4 and Andy and Brad have been head coachs for a while in the lower leagues but they have been successful as well.
It would depend upon their pride and desire to coach at the highest level again.

I am more or less Just wondering what they would be able to bring to our team if they choose to join.
Given they have been successful at the lower grades they know what it takes to win.
Mick is happy to listen to articulate reasonings so they may bring different perspectives or know of players that would fit into MM's plans.

It is all just conjecture, it is just that a few recently retired individuals (who are untried) are being named based on their playing skills rather than on their coaching skills.
