Our rookie list situation:

2 Category A rookies: Nic Newman, Lewis Melican
1 Category B rookie: Jordan Foote

Colin O'Riordan will be drafted as a Category B rookie, leaving 2 more rookie list spots. The Swans have strongly hinted they will re-draft Harry Marsh as a rookie, and if this happens, he will be a Category A rookie.

Technically, since we are going with 38 senior players (assuming we don't pick in the PSD) we are allowed to have 6 Cat A rookies and 3 Cat B rookies giving a total of 47 players but based on the previous 8 years or so we have had 44 or 45 players. If this trend continues, we will be adding at least 1 Cat B rookie, and possibly 1 more either Cat A or Cat B if we want another spot.

The Cat B spot I'm guessing we'll go for a Academy player. The 4 nominated along with Mills but not drafted were Lachlan Behagg, Darcy Baron-Hay, Matt Wilson and Ryan Hebron. All 4 have played in our NEAFL team. Behagg and DBH are taller options who have played at both ends, Hebron is a mid-sized defender and Wilson is a smaller player who played in the forward half in the NEAFL but I believe usually plays in the midfield.

Kb mentioned on the swans website on 19/11 that we would go in with 4 rookie picks

Remember that academy listed players can be added automatically to the owning clubs lists so Chol can be rookied by Brisbane without bidding. Same with any of ours. Grim, any of our academy players worth looking at in your opinion?

Have we committed to rookie Marsh?

We should get a project KPP with one of those picks and maybe grab a player like Harper who was delisted. Well worth a rookie spot imo.

Harper maybe, I would want a medical though. I like O'Kearney as a rookie midfielder, but I'm not sure he will last the PSD and all the way to our rookie pick.

We're obviously going to bypass the PSD as we always go with 38 senior players of late. Beatson said we'll take 4 rookie picks in an interview last week (probably including O'Riordan, but who knows).
We'll almost definitely be re-drafting Marsh (assuming no one else takes him) so there's 1 pick.

Which probably leaves us one 'live' cat A pick (possibly two depending on whether he was counting O'Riordan or not) and they will almost definitely go needs here and you'd suspect that need would either be, more pace and/or foot-skills again.
Some would argue we need a KD, but we do have lot's of 'developing' KD's already. If there's a ready to go one, maybe, but we don't really need another developing one. Having said that though if we do infact have a 2nd cat A pick it would probably be a Key Position player of some sort (possibly Ruck, knowing Derickx will be leaving end of next year).

You'd suspect we'd go with 1 academy B rookie as well, we can have a free stab at anyone we want of those nominated, you usually target needs in the rookie but I doubt any of the guys nominated have amazing foot-skills, so maybe you just go best available here or perhaps this is where we go tall if we don't use that 2nd cat A pick.

Our first pick will be Marsh then past that will be decided today and tomorrow with pre-listing any of our academy players. Marsh and O'Riordan will be two of the "four" but that would mean a 45 man list rather than the 44 we had last year. So we have two spots that will either go to our remaining academy players, a slider to the 2nd Round of the Rookie Draft or maybe a player we were linked with before the draft in Sam Murray. Guess we'll know which way we are headed once pre-listing decisions are made.

WOW

What about Gach Nyuon as a project player?
Can jump and reach as high as Nick Nat in the ruck in draft combine testing at comparative age.

201cm/81kg
19/3/97
Dandenong Stingrays

Nyuon was the All Australian ruckman this year after a strong national carnival for Vic Country, but was probably always more of a rookie chance than a shot in the national draft. That's because clubs don't tend to take many rucks in the national draft and Nyuon has some way to go developing a body that's ready for AFL. But his improvement across the year should appeal to a club who wants to give him a go.

The definition of project... an 81kg ruckman. He'll take 3 years before he has the size to even compete, let alone play

James parsons? Kid can play. Doubt he would last to our live pick though.

Jack2Jack makes a sensible analytical post and you answer it with that bullshit.

Are you capable of posting anything that resembles something insightful with regard to tactics, analysis, meaningful assessment of players, coaches etc?

As far as I can tell your knowledge extends to McVeigh, Jetta, TDL are soft/cats and St Kilda are scum and you seemingly have an inability to comprehend anything longer than two sentences.

Almost forgot your ability to give 'likes' to posts by mods.

TL;dr WOW.

First name called I would suspect. O'Kearney, Parsons, Snelling and Clarke will probably be the first 4 selected. I think we're going to be OK, I reckon the rookie draft is pretty solid up until about one or two after our selection. GWS will be the key though, I'm not sure how many spots they have but I would think there are 3, possibly four of them worth picking up.

I would rather go to the PSD and pick O'Kearney if we can or Parsons but if that isn't possible, I would go for the best available. If that means Marsh, then 2 more so be it.

There was a mock draft somewhere that we ended up picking Thomas glen with our last pick in the national draft. I wouldnt mind picking him up as a rookie. Project KPF/ruck will be perfect imo. Glass-mccasker looks promising also.

Why do I get a feeling we will miss him as Freo will want him too, and we are committed to re-drafting Marsh as a rookie.

Yep, I like them too, keep quiet on Glen though... need to keep that cat in the bag. I really like Jock Cornell from GWS too, just waiting to see whether they're interested enough to give him a spot

Jump on him first and let freo backstab us by picking up marsh
Can't see this happening, Fremantle have had very good recent drafting

This I agree with, although Marsh is a decent prospect, getting a backup KPD is quite important. Yes everyone will say Alir and Xavier Richards are there, but I want some more depth ideally. If someone takes Marsh before our 2nd, it happens. I would ideally go best available at the 1st pick in the rookie draft.

Complete waste of time. Give him 3-4 to play seniors and that's if he even gets good enough. He's the definition of raw.

We already have marsh types in the squad. Is he really that important? Hes been with us for what 3 years now and hasnt even got a look into the senior line up. Best available i agree with as well. Marsh is expendable imo.

I agree but I'm happy to back the club and if they feel Marsh is something we don't have, then fine. I just hope we don't pick him first round in the RD.
