So I've had a look at the draft quickly to see what is around if we don't get Schache but end up with 3&4 which seems quite likely. So Francis looks promising and almost a certain no.3, but no.4 is what interests me the most. As we have Freeman, Close, McStay (kinda), possible Hipwood or Andrews (swing them forward) I have to wonder if our pick 4 would be used on a 'needed' player or the best as all of a sudden near the end of the year we seem to have some possibilities. Wiedeman and McKay sound interesting but I am drawn to this Tucker bloke as he seems like the type Brisbane could really prosper from, smart, quick and good ball user.... Said it before and said it again, quite looking forward to trade week and the draft.

Way to high for Tucker, most probably go in the teens or lower. Around pick 4 (outside of Academy players) the types of Parish and possibly Curnow would be looked at.

I still firmly believe that if we get two picks in the top 4, (and presuming one of Francis and Schache is snapped up by Carlton, leaving the remainder for us to nab with our highest pick), if that then leaves us with a pick 3 or a pick 4 (depending on AFL compo), the club could probably swing some real enticing offers at the trade table with other clubs - packaging up that pick 3 or 4 with Aish or with Mayes or with Redden (if they do intend to leave), and gun for an out and out established star.

That would likely put WCE on the radar (pick 3/4 plus Redden) - plenty of talls on their list to be looked at. Not to mention start knocking on the SA clubs doors as well (given Aish/Redden/Mayes are all SA boys). Then of course the 5 or so Melbourne clubs linked with Aish already would be worth a chat to as well :)

As sexy as two picks in the top 4 sounds, it's still awfully speculative at best, and I wouldn't mind the club hedging their bets between drafting a top talent with one of the picks, but also possibly going for an established player as well with the other (if doable). As opposed to going for broke and drafting two top young kids - which could backfire on the club in any number of ways (as we have seen in recent years with injuries, walkouts or simply just not amounting to their potential).

Look on the bright side; if Mayes, Redden and Aish all do decide to leave, they are all quality players, and hopefully Brisbane can get some good value for them. Being positioned so high in the draft just gives a real added dimension and flexibility with the club to go hard using one of more of our picks as leverage if they feel the urge.

If we end up having pick 4, I'd love to see us take Darcy Parish. Clean user of the ball with awareness

Essendon would cry big time if we took Parish! Still, he's a jet.

I am still hoping we could net Collingwood's first round pick 8, with Aish + WCE Selwood Compo (if Redden goes there) OR Aish + end of r.1 Luey compo.

I'd love if Francis would still be around at 8, but I doubt it. Parish is a lock at 4/5 to Essendon.

How about Curnow (another big Nat Fyfe clone)? Or Balic (out with his wrist injury might have had to some pundits cool off on him)? Could both be in the mix at pick 8.

Ideal scenario:
Schache (our top pick)
Francis (with a band 1 Luey compo pick)
Curnow/Balic (with Collingwood's pick 8)
Keays
Hipwood

Likely we won't get band 1 for Luey, hence more likely would be:
Schache OR Francis
Curnow/Balic (with Collingwood's pick 8)
Keays
Hipwood

Of course, if our team were really creative at the trade table, they could on-trade Mayes + our future 2016 first rounder, to say, Melbourne/Essendon/St K for their pick (4 - 6 range). Leaving us with picks 2, 4-6, 8.

The lions would be crazy to trade our 2016 first round pick. despite blind optimism our 2016 pick is likely to be a top 6 pick again. So we'd be giving away next years pick 1-5 and Mayes (in your scenario) for pick 4-6 this year.

no offence but if you would like to throw idiotic ideas like that out there can you please keep it to the hypotheticals board?

I want us to take a proper risk in the draft for once. Assuming we get pick 3+4 Id go all in on big bodied mids in Francis and Curnow both who could potentially be the best of their draft long term. Two Fyfe like players in the same team? Yes please.

Just listening to that idiot Mark Fine, congratulating Carlton on nabbing pick 1 and likely pick 2. Given we just did ourselves out of pick 1 (and likely pick 2... assuming Carlton get pick 2 for Kreuzer), it makes me feel sick that Brisbane give up so much by winning the last game of the season. I'm not at all suggesting we should have tanked it... more that rewarding losing with the best picks in the draft is flawed.

i'd be in favor of the bottom 4-6 clubs going into a lottery for the first 4-6 picks. Alternately, the compensation for FA needs to change. I would be putting and band-1 compensation after pick 10. the first 10 picks (for clubs who missed the top-8) shouldn't be altered.

add to that that the Blues essential started tanking when after it was obvious they wouldn't make finals they sack their coach and put a caretaker in to make sure they well and truely bottom out

In order to net two extremely highly rated kids with links to the club (Francis and Schache). Hence going hard to get them.

There will be extremely talented kids in next years draft too. Plus we have an extremely talented (and contracted) kid in Mayes who has previously shown a desire to remain with the club, and was taken at #8 in the 2012 draft. Sure he's not had a great year, but I wouldn't be pushing him out the door (even if he's shown an interest in leaving) along with possibly pick 1-6 next year in order to get pick 4-6 this year.

Whilst I appreciate your thirst for high draft picks the reality is your only as good as your last game.
We beat a top 6 team so will probably end up with 1st pick between 14-18 next year.

Totally agree mate, and I wouldn't be advocating getting rid of Mayes AT ALL unless he bona fide refused to stay on and demanded to leave. Which would be crushing...Mayes is probably the most skilled and sublimely talented of ALL our draftees in the recent years (Squizzy a close second). It'd be crushing to lose him.

With any luck, once all the dust settles and that rousing win against the Doggies sinks in, perhaps it might sway a few who were umming and ahhing on the fence about leaving, to actually commit and stay! And may even possibly motivate those thinking of joining our club too...

It sure was an exciting game of football and showed the league what we're capable of once it all clicks. Go Lions 2016!

It's usually NEVER that easy...nice to dream though.
We have options though. We can trade Aish + pick 3 to Carlton for Bell and pick 2. Not a big deal. The reason why Schache will be a gun is because he's an elite set shot at goal, good overhead, good endurance and Kevin "shifter" Sheenan said that he hasn't seen a key forward dominate the championships, in all he's time as a AFL talent manger (He stated it in the highlight video on youtube) as Schache has.
