Carlton shopping around Casboult is more of an indication of how they rate him and how he fits into their structure/gameplan rather than how interested they are in Schache.

Weitering will go pick one.
Schache will be a Lion come draft night.
That's what worries me...

We may have to pay more than we expected for Hipwood, but shit it's hard not to get excited about the sort of player we might have on our hands here.

Yeah you have to think that if teams are going to bid that high on a guy then there's certainly some talent.

Yeah 9 is a bit high, i think he'll be bid on at somewhere between 11-15

The 1,025 points associated with our current pick 17 is enough to cover a bid for Hipwood at pick 12 (1,268 less 20% discount = 1,015). Anything higher than a bid at pick 12 and we will have to use pick 17 as well as part of our next pick (currently 21) which would then move that back in the draft.

Emma Quayle has said he could be a top 10 pick too and she's generally a good judge of talent.

Where he's rated and where he's bid on will be a bit removed though. If GWS get the pies pick 7 then i doubt they will bid on him which leaves adelaide at 9. Don't think thats a pressing need for them, they need to restock their midfield a bit, had Geelong had the pick I would have said they may be a chance.

Port? If they see him as a back maybe but they've got Trengove, Hombsch and Carlisle but could use another developing back.
Bulldogs? If Talia goes then I seem them as possibly likely bidders given they're a little light on down back going forward. They would be my most likely bidders at pick 11. If he doesn't go there then I see the tigers as unlikely given their tall situation. After that we're back to Adelaide again which is a possibility I guess. After that is North who seem to almost always go VIC with their first round picks.

I think the question for a few of those teams is if Collins is still on the board, he's certainly the more mature bodied option and more plug and play. Do they go with the Vic Country guy or bid on a lions academy player who needs a fair be of development work to reach the same level (yes I'm aware of Andrews form this year).

Still I tend to think Freo would certainly be eyeing off a bid if he's there at 16. There's less risk for them given the lack of top line WA guys this year, so regardless they'll be drafting interstate.

Just so annoying that the AFL couldn't allow us a few more free hits from our academy before changing the rules. Imagine if we had drafted Hipwood/Keays for 4th rounders.. rest of the Vic clubs would have been fuming.

No Vic Metro or WA in the top 10?

How many times have we seen 4 boys from NSW and QLD go top 10 ? (if it pans out this way).

I think it does show this draft class is lacking but also the Academy's are having an impact as these boys are much closer to the finished product than what these states would've produced a few years back (odd exception aside).

Where he's rated and where he's bid on will be a bit removed though. If GWS get the pies pick 7 then i doubt they will bid on him which leaves adelaide at 9. You forgot the complication that draft picks slide with academy nominations. Based on the phantom draft that was posted and the current draft order:

Pick 1: Carlton
Pick 2: Brisbane
Pick 3: Sydney (academy match for Mills - up from pick 14)
Pick 4: Gold Coast
Pick 5: GWS (academy match Hopper - up from pick 9 - which was 8, but slipped due Sydney pick for Mills)
Pick 6: GWS (academy match Kennedy - up from 27 and whatever else they need)
Pick 7: Essendon
Pick 8: St Kilda
Pick 9: Melbourne - this is where Hipwood is listed in the Phantom draft. After Melbourne is Collingwood, then Adelaide (which they got from Geelong).

So trying to estimate which team will nominate which academy player is not easy and makes phantom drafts particularly difficult this year if you start to look at each clubs needs.

In a open draft I was wondering where Keays and Hipwood would be in terms of what pick, I know it probably already been answered but going back many pages thanks
